Re: Liza Minelli Monday @ TDD - C&C
Liza May Minnelli (born March 12, 1946) is an American actress, singer, and dancer. Known for her commanding stage presence and powerful alto singing voice, Minnelli has received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, an Emmy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, and four Tony Awards. She is one of the few performers awarded a non-competitive EGOT having received two honorary Grammy Awards. Minnelli is a Knight of the French Legion of Honour. Her persona and her style have immortalized her as a gay icon.
Minnelli's parents were actress and singer Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli. After moving to New York City in 1961, she began her career as a musical theatre actress, nightclub performer, and traditional pop artist. She made her professional stage debut in the Off-Broadway revival of Best Foot Forward (1963). She became known for her collaborations with John Kander and Fred Ebb, and later won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her roles in the Broadway musicals Flora the Red Menace (1965) and The Act (1978). She was Tony-nominated for The Rink (1984). She won Special Tony Awards for Liza at the Winter Garden (1974) and Liza at the Palace! (2009).
On film, she had her breakthrough performance in the drama film The Sterile Cuckoo (1969), earning her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She later received the award playing Sally Bowles in the musical film Cabaret (1972), which brought her to international prominence. She starred in a string of films such as Lucky Lady (1975), New York, New York (1977), Arthur (1981), Rent-a-Cop (1988), and Stepping Out (1991). On television, she had a career resurgence as a recurring guest star on the sitcom Arrested Development (2003–2013).
Her concert performances at Carnegie Hall in 1979 and 1987 and at Radio City Music Hall in 1991 and 1992 are recognized among her most successful. From 1988 to 1990, she toured with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. in Frank, Liza & Sammy: The Ultimate Event. Minnelli is known for her renditions of American standards and is known for her signature songs which include ("New York, New York", "Cabaret", and "Maybe This Time"). Throughout her later years she has suffered serious health problems, she has avoided huge concert performances in favor of small retrospective performances. Her life was profiled in the 2024 documentary, Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story.

Re: Liza Minelli Monday @ TDD - C&C
Hi, trissie, have a great week with kids at camp! Enjoy time with your dh, and getting household things done with fewer interruptions.
Thanks for the start. Liza Minelli has certainly earned her multiple awards.
I just caught about 5 minutes of an interview with Jay Leno. He was being interviewed about his current relationship with his wife of 45 years. I hadn't heard that she has severe, advanced dementia. He spoke well about loving her, about taking care of her, and his thoughts about his marriage vows.
Since I didn't get here to post on Sunday, and it's just about bedtime (midnight!):
church, and coffee time afterwards
brunch at Co-op deli: ham, peach stuffed french toast
visit with dneighbor who has moved to assisted living (AL), and her dh is in hospice while living at teh AL place.
bought corn and melon at local farm truck
drove by house that former tenants are building - they were able to move in last summer, but still have much to do - siding is one major item, started enough taht we could see the color.
drove to cemetery where my dh, my father, and dlittle dog are buried. (Dog was buried without permission or knowledge of anyone other than ds who dug the hole. Grass if fully grown over the area and there's no surface evidence)
That pretty much filled 9+ hours of my day. I came home tired.
Rested, did seated exercise video
Now heading to bed - hope to read a few minutes. I'm reading a book about of a real woman who lived in the state Maine during and after the American revolution. Martha Ballard kept a detailed and daily diary of life from a woman's perspective including her services as a midwife and a healer. An interesting read for this retired OB nurse who grew up loving history and historical novels.
G'night dogged! "see" U after we sleep!

Re: Liza Minelli Monday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off. Enjoy your "free" week without DKids!
Sleep well, Dogged! LOL at cutting up that box i to unrecognisable pieces. I'm guessing that your hand washing gizmo is also something that you're not "supposed" to have?
Gma, that sounded a good and full day. I'm not surprised you're tired! I'm glad the spot where DDog is buried has grown over nicely - no risk of any awkward questions from people who do t understand/ don't have compassion.
So, Monday morning again! DH has left for work. Ive done my physio exercises, and had what DH calls the "all you can eat buffet" on the bed with the cats. I'm not sure if it's going to rain today. It's looking quite overcast, but it'd dry so far. The north of the county is expecting Storm Floris, but, looking at the map, we are going to escape it. (Interesting note, the Met Office is telling people affected by the storm to "stay inside and not to open outside doors unnecessarily!")
My plans for today: walk and garden time (weather permitting!) and housework.15 minutes decluttering would also be good. Oh, and I need to relist a couple of boxes on eBay (summer is a quiet time of the year, but I wanted to get them listed so I could tick it off the list.) Maybe I can do that now, while everyone is quiet?

Re: Liza Minelli Monday @ TDD - C&C
I'm not sure where the morning has gone, but it's nearly midday already! Let's see, I've re written the description for that box and relisted it on eBay. That took longer than I thought , if course. I've checked my email, deleted a LOT, and dealt with a few issues, including a banking one. (Why can't they just send a letter about the interest rate change on my ISA, rather than sending me an email to tell me they have sent me a message, which then involves logging into the app, finding the messages and persuading my PDF reader to play nicely!)
Why does admin type stuff always take so long? (Or maybe it's just me?!?
) Freddie's been out for his walk, and I've had my breakfast and coffee. Oh, and Ive taken the rubbish down to the bins. It keeps threatening to rain, so I'll go for a short walk next and then do something in the front garden. If it's still dry, I'll then do something in the back garden.

Re: Liza Minelli Monday @ TDD - C&C
I’ve always enjoyed Liza Minelli’s music. I’d belt out “maybe this time” in the car lol.
Thanks for the start, trissie, and welcome back. No kiddos this week? How’d you manage that?
Hope you’re still having sweet dreams Dogged and Gma.
Kittykatt, hope the weather is calm and uneventful for you. Good luck with your list.
Dd2 visited last week so dh took off work all week. While she was in town we shopped the mall for school clothes and fun things. After she left we chilled a couple days and then got to see William Shatner, one of my first crushes ever. He’s 94 and remains super busy. I should be as lucky/blessed really to move as well as he does. Then back to chilling lol. Now I need to start my August productivity and tackle to do’s.
Main goals for today include:
Daily have to’s
Whb
Closet
Time in every room
Wfd?
Start thinking about fall decorating
Enjoy your day.
♥ Wake each day expecting good things to happen! ♥

Hello, Bama! So glad you've had a lovely time with DD2. It's raining steadily here now, but only a very gentle breeze, so I don't have to worry about the warning to keep doors closed!
Laura, I forgot to answer you question about petunias. I think if you water them well and dead head then (unless they're the kind that deadhead themselves!) they should revive and be ok. Unfortunately, pansies really don't like very hot dry weather, so they may not be successful. Good luck!
I've had my walk and some garden time.
Lunch now, than I'll start the housework.
