ecily Louise "Cicely" Tyson (December 19, 1924 – January 28, 2021) was an American actress. In a career that spanned more than seven decades, she is known for her portrayals of complex and strong-willed African American women. She received several awards including three Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award and a Tony Award, as well as nominations for a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award. She was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 2015, the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016, and the Honorary Academy Award in 2018.
She garnered widespread attention and critical acclaim for her performance as a Black mother facing adversity in the drama film Sounder (1972), for which she was nominated for both the Academy Award for Best Actress and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama. At age 88, she became the oldest winner for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her role in the revival of the Horton Foote play The Trip to Bountiful (2013). She made her final Broadway appearance starring in the revival of The Gin Game (2016), opposite James Earl Jones.

Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off. I'd never heard of Cicely Tyson before -what an accomplished lady!
Today is a sunny start, so I'd like to get out in the g5 before it gets too hot, and not get distant other things! Fortunately all the eBay stuff is under control. I do need to email ED, who sent me a very long and very helpful email about parish Christmas lunch yesterday, basically offering the services of the social Comms. I'm going to say "yes" and " thank you" to everything, as I've never organised anything like this before ( writing invitations for my 7th birthday party dont really count!
) and she has sooo much experience. But, I think I'll reply to her when I've had a bit more time to think about the details - it's something I can think over while I'm deadheading!.
And it's the turn of downstairs to recover some attention today, so there's enough to keep me out of mischief!

Fix garage guttering that's loose at one end and bending down. Dneighbour R2 may fix?
Fix dripping kitchen tap (new washer ?)- DF E has given me the phone number of her plumber . I think DF CW also has a plumber she is happy with?
Take up and hem those thick winter curtains for the kitchen
Book eye test for me
Find picture hanging equipment for DH
Sort prints and put in albums (this will probably be an activity to do on wet days!) WIP I am now working on 2024
Think about setting up Guardianship for F,J and M - looked on Cats' Protection, I need their microchip numbers, approximate DOB, colour and markings and useful information about them. Bookmark link with local recommended solicitors (also ask DF CW?)

Sitting in my garden, and enjoying the sun in the shelter of my patio. It's a warm, breezy day, but not too hot. I've taken Fred out and also had a short walk. I'll see if I can go for longer walk later. In my garden I e weeded and deadheaded and trimmed back a few things. My agapanthus only sent up one flower shoot this year, although all the leaves look healthy enough. I can't remember when it was last repotted, so that's a job to do once the flower has gone over - I think it might be either pot bound, hungry or both. My Pearl anniversary rose is also earmarked for repotting, although Ill probably leave that until it's time to prune it.

Thank you trissie! How could I not have heard of Cicely Tyson? I googled a photo, and she does look familiar, so I've probably seen her before but didn't know her name. I can't believe she was still acting on Broadway at age 91!! I hope your day is going well.
I'm glad you got to enjoy your garden, Kitty! I can now picture you sitting out there.

I'm up late -- and today is a very full day for me. I hope I can handle it; I'm not used to full days anymore. LOL! In my ideal day, today I'd like to:
1. Go for a short jog - I may not jog again for a few days while in Maine.

12. Young twins, the teenage dds of friends, will be here 9:30 - ? to stack the wood dh bought; this may not require anything from me as I'll probably be at work during this time.
The list looks long, but a couple items can be done in 5 minutes. And #12 may not require any time from me, other than greetings if I'm home. Dh is staying home this morning to help them.

I hope you can get your longer walk in too.I'm up late -- and today is a very full day for me. I hope I can handle it; I'm not used to full days anymore. LOL! In my ideal day, today I'd like to:
1. Go for a short jog - I may not jog again for a few days while in Maine.
2. Put together my syllabus.
3. Make sub plans.
4. Make my Telegram Group.
5. 1-3 Prof Dev meetings
6. WF - pick up the items I didn't get yesterday.

Kittykatt, I love agapanthus. I saw a business use them as a border plant down their sidewalk, so pretty when in bloom and still nice when not.
Helia, enjoy your busy day culminating in a dinner party. I’m imagining fringe dresses, tea and white wine, tea cakes… light chatter and laughter spilling into the night.
LAnn, let us know how the movie is. It peaked my interest as well.
Feeling a little melancholy this morning, I think it’s because I haven’t heard from the girls in awhile. They are both busy doing their own thing and can’t be bothered with mom and dad at the moment. Part of life I suppose. Still a little lonely.
I did meet new people yesterday. I found a nice ladder on marketplace and went and got it. The family live on a lake in town, I didn’t even know there was a lake lol. It had been buried in woods and now subdivisions surround it. Then a woman in the community opened a small food stand so went and got fresh okra from her farm. She put out mini Bundt cakes but the ants found them so she is doing those by preorder for now, until the ant issue is resolved. I did meet some other neighbors shopping there and then the woman that owns the stand. We are fb friends but haven’t met in real life. I know that sounds weird. She’s a realtor though so friends everyone for leads. She’s nice. Her inlaws are the ones that gave us fresh figs last month so we kinda know each other in a roundabout way. All that to say I’m trying to be more proactive in getting out and socializing a bit. Dh doesn’t talk much when he is home. A man thing?
I had seen roasted okra online and thought I’d try it. It’s very good. If you don’t like the slime of okra this is for you. Cut the okra in half long ways, lightly coat with oil, I had an olive oil spray, roast in the oven. Comes out crispy like a chip with a mild okra flavor. We loved it. Need to get some more. Some of her okra was large and a little too old so it didn’t do well, go for the younger pods.
I guess I need to do something now.
