Mary Kathleen Turner (born June 19, 1954) is an American actress. Known for her distinctive deep husky voice, she is the recipient of two Golden Globes, as well as nominations for an Academy Award, a Grammy, and two Tony Awards.

Born June 19, 1954, in Springfield, Missouri,[6] to Patsy (née Magee)[7] and Allen Richard Turner, a U.S. Foreign Service officer[7] who grew up in China (where Turner's great-grandfather had been a Methodist missionary), Turner is the third of four children, and the only one to be born in the United States.[8] She has a sister, Susan, and two brothers.[9][10][11]

Raised in a strictly conservative Christian home, Turner's interest in performing was discouraged by both of her parents: "My father was of missionary stock", she later explained, "so theater and acting were just one step up from being a streetwalker, you know? So when I was performing in school, he would drive my mom [there] and sit in the car. She'd come out at intermissions and tell him, 'She's doing very well.'

After debuting both off and on Broadway in 1977, followed by her television debut as Nola Dancy Aldrich on the NBC soap opera The Doctors (1978–1979), Turner rose to prominence with her portrayal of Matty Walker in Body Heat (1981).She worked solidly throughout the 1980s, in films such as The Man with Two Brains (1983), Romancing the Stone ( 1984), The Jewel of the Nile ( 1985), Switching Channels, The Accidental Tourist (both 1988), and The War of the Roses (1989). For her portrayal of the title character in Peggy Sue Got Married (1986), Turner was nominated for the 1987 Academy Award for Best Actress. Subsequent credits include V.I. Warshawski (1991), Serial Mom (1994), Baby Geniuses, (1999), Beautiful (2000), Marley & Me (2008), and Dumb and Dumber To (2014).

Outside film, Turner guest-starred as Sue Collini on Showtime's Californication (2009) and Roz Volander on Netflix's The Kominsky Method (2019–2021). She also played Charles Bing, the drag queen father of Chandler Bing, on the seventh season of Friends (2001). Turner's voice work includes Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Constance in Monster House (2006), as well as characters on television series such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, King of the Hill, and Rick and Morty.

In addition to her work on stage and screen, Turner has taught acting classes at New York University.

I was sound asleep. NH called. Mom fell again. She just "gracefully descends to the floor" according to her. Now I'm awake and should be asleep.

2 very nice things happened today.
1When the city put in the hated sidewalk, they disrupted Mom's sprinkler system. Nicest, very competent crew came today and put it back together. ( Not city, I had to find and hire someone, and pay them. )
2 MrVKM contacted me and wants to go out for supper on Saturday. It will be good to see him again.

Now I'm going to try to get back to sleep.

kittykatt, I got once again lost in the rabbit hole of internet, but now I know that a remake of The War of the Roses with Benedikt Cumberbatch is coming to the cinemas in a couple weeks.

I think Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas had such great chemistry in all the three movies they starred together - I found The War of the Roses hillarious when I first saw it as a teen (would be as hillarious after being married for twenty years? ), and I remember replaying all the kissing scenes from Romancing the Stone and The Jewel of the Nile over and over again on VCR

Working from home again. I postponed getting groceries till tomorrow - I had a 9am work call and needed to prepare for that, and since we do have enough milk and coffee, we'll get by for another day

Morning Trissie and kittykatt. They had to put blue tumbling type of mats on the side of my mom’s bed since she fell even with the sides up a time or two. She was not usually able to get out of bed on her own though when she “thought” about it.

My mom had mats on the floor at the other NH as well, L Ann. I told them to do something like that at this one, and they haven't done it yet -- but she hasn't fallen out of bed here yet. She has a larger bed here -- bc I bought it for her.
Hope your mom is OK, Gma. And I'm happy you get to have dinner with VKM. Yay for competent workers!

I hope you had a good morning at church, Kitty. Thank you for the informative start. I've seen several of those movies. Did Jude lose some weight?

Travels yesterday were once again uneventful. The bnb we're staying at is very charming, a historical house that has been renovated. It's on Orr's Island in Maine. Weather yesterday was good, sunny and in the 70s. After a grocery store run and lunch, we went to a beach (rocky) to look for sea glass and shells. We could see boats loaded with lobster traps. Then, we went on a hike by the ocean and clambered over some big rocks. We saw a cormorant or two diving in the water. We ended the day with a lobster meal! I hadn't had lobster in years; I'd forgotten how much I like it!

Dh called last night. We'll call each other again tonight.

I slept about 9 hours last night. We chose #s, and I'm sharing a room with J. I was tired, had a short sleep the night before traveling, and slept long and well.

I was the last one up this morning. Currently, S2, J, and K are out on a walk. I opted to stay in the house for some alone time. I'm managing my introversion. I just had my coffee.

We're going to go on at least one hike today. K said we can see seals on this one!
