Question of the day have you had tree work done on your property?
Yesterday I noticed on tree that has been struggling was split down to the base of this tree.
Sent DD a text with pic. of the tree she works for an arborist tree service.
The tree will have to come down it's not terribly big and not to outrageous fee for that it seems but
they have not looked at it. Access might have to be on neighbors side of the fence as they had a paved driveway.
I'm not worried about the tree falling on anything but the grass in the back yard! LOL!
Dd will be here Mon. and we will see what we can do before they come as far as cutting lower branches off.

So that's what's OMM currently.

We had rain.
Short nite here was up late talking with DD and the listening to a pod cast.
Up at 5:30 have had to eat some thing as bs was low.
Shipped coffee is all I've done so far today.

How I love my trees around us, some planted by my parents. I will ask HRH how much it cost to have the tree work done at the other house before we moved. We were forced into it because Ash trees all died from widespread disease-pest, and those close to our house were threatening. Very sad. This was several tall trees in a "grove" my mother used to say, about 4 or 5 growing as though from the same spot. It had to be done by bonded pros because so dangerous otherwise, since so hard to know what was close to death. Just cutting of limbs has been done by my ds when needed.

Oh, I see your dd will know a lot about costs. I looked it up and it was the Emerald Ash Borer that is killing North American Ash - 25 or 30 states and 5 Canadian provinces so far. Sigh.

Sorry, lucylee, no experience with that insurance. It's certainly expensive to make vehicle decisions of almost any kind these days.

School - I don't know if there is any special way this blended public charter school educates, but that's interesting that one near you has a different plan. I need to ask more questions. I will admit I was holding my breath until I looked at the website and found that it really is publicly funded without tuition. The more I think about busses, I'm almost certain they don't have any, though. The school will be a 20-minute drive away, so that will be a big part of ddolder's and dgsonC's day. It says, "students receive less funding than traditional public-school students, i.e., 82 cents for every $1.00 traditional students receive" - so, no, I'm pretty sure no bus. It says they pick up laptops today, order their first quarter lunches on Monday. (Hmmm... does that mean lunch is not free... ..)

I have a day at home before yet another appt tomorrow afternoon.
Laundry is a big part of today.

We have a pine tree that was huge before we moved in 10 years ago. Every couple of years the electric company comes by and trims it as it is near the wires and the road. We have a lot of other large trees and dh trims off lower branches if needed. There is a huge maple tree that overhangs the farmer's field on the south side of our house. The guy who rents that field goes around the branches so they won't hit the cab on the tractor.

Speaking of that guy. He only cut the field twice last year instead of his usual 3 times. This morning he was cutting the alfalfa again. He did that a month ago. I guess all the heat and sunshine may have something to do with it. In the 10 years we have lived here, there have been 2 seriously major parties where tents have been erected and invitations sent out. Last month there was a party on the weekend that the field got cut, raked and baled. Well, the second of the 2 parties is this Saturday. Today the field is getting cut, and most likely raked. I guess this Saturday's party across the street will hear the baling going on. I'm sure the hostess isn't impressed. (She doesn't like much of anything and has been rude to us on a number of occasions.

Dh has a friend here with a boat. I don't know what the guy thinks my dh can do for his boat or trailer. (I overheard something about the trailer when they were on the phone last night.)

Question of the day have you had tree work done on your property?

Yes. Last October, we hired a tree company to remove a tree growing near an electric pole and line. The electric company handles such cases if it's on public property, but this tree was on our land. We paid $1,200 for the removal. A crew of four workers arrived with three machines and completed the job in about an hour. They staked the tree to ensure it didn’t fall the wrong way, cut it down, ran it through a shredder, ground the stump below ground level, raked the area clean of leaves and twigs, added dirt, and leveled the ground. While they were there, I asked about grinding down another stump in the yard, and they did it for an additional $100.

Homeschool lessons were finished for the day by 10 a.m. We’re starting off easy today. It takes a while to get signed in to different curriculums and get established.

DD14 wasn’t too excited about going back to school this morning. I reminded her that she has other schooling options, but she confirmed her decision to stick with brick-and-mortar public school. She loves the learning aspect of school but not the social side. School lunches here cost $2.75. The cooks are truly incredible and well known for their cooking skills.

I have been outside and did pruning from the ground for steps this morning.
I have the wheel burrow full and another small pile to the front of the property.
I'll be putting these in the trailer that I just emptied! LOL!
Next up move the 5' step ladder for when DD comes Mon.
I do have an extension ladder for workers if needed like the roofers when that was done.
Neighbors will be notified as some are there trees hanging over the fence, and access from their road.
I'm mostly concerned about dead or dieing ones.

A tree guy assessment will happen I'm pretty sure.
New neighbors have some dead tall shrubs - but if it were me chain saw could be done by most people.

Tree I need out is 6" around or more so not for just common folk.
I do have an electric chain saw I've used one time! LOL!

Some smaller branches are a bit too close to the power line so needs some attn.
could be better after leaves are down and this tree in front does not loss em till Dec. here.
So possible spring time work on it.

Last time when roof was done they cut on too close branches. Dgson & crew did that.
A few years before that some bigger branches moved away from the roof & house in front.

Other news: Daughter & Son Dance practice may happen in my drive way for rehearsing before
dgson's wedding!
Walked around the block w/ ddoggo. Morning steps mostly done by moving tree limbs.

I have lots of trees worked on - I trust the arborist to see what to do but when costs for treatment overwhelms me then I put a new tree in.
We spray our birches and use chelated iron on them bc our soil is mostly clay. I also found that the lack of rain in fall/winter makes the trees suffer
this year we are watering in December per the suggestion of the garden center.

I don't use the arborist for cutting down our trees bc they are so expensive - I have a great guy who is reasonable and insured

Making progress with continual and consistent small steps.

DS17 has called 8 times since he left 3 hours ago. I love that he seeks my opinion and wants to tell me his thoughts.....but it sure does take some time.

LucyLee - I feel your pain about vehicles and decision whether to keep repairing or start fresh. I recently went through that process. No matter what you decide to do, it isn't an easy decision.

One of DS17's bosses, Sam, called today asking DS17 to bring a friend and drive to Amarillo, Texas. The two teens will pick up a newly repaired BMW and drive back. Sam is providing his Mini Cooper for them to use on the trip. On the return, one of the teens will drive the Mini Cooper while the other drives the repaired BMW. Sam is paying them $400 for the job, though they’d likely do it for free just for the adventure.

Backstory—why is Sam's BMW 4 hours away? Sam and his wife took it on a trip and were in an accident, requiring the car to be towed 180 miles to the nearest BMW dealership for repairs. I’m surprised they’re keeping it, considering they own half a dozen vehicles and have the finances to buy just about anything they want. ANYway, DS17 and friend are excited for the 8-hour round trip. I wouldn't be surprised if they also bring their GF's with them.

HRH remembers the reason we were able to contract with the tree cutters for less than $1,000 for that job was that we asked them to cut only. They were finished with 5 mature trees in one afternoon (picking an afternoon convenient for them because of a nearby job) and left all the after-cutting work for us. Because all Ash was assumed to be diseased and weakened even where you couldn't see damage, we couldn't contract with anyone who might previously have wanted to buy Ash lumber, so the cost was just what it was.

Coffee seems to have been the culprit in a bout of acid reflux HRH has been suffering through lately. I had temporarily sworn off coffee because it tasted so awful to me while my taste buds were affected, and I hadn't gotten back to it yet. With this new development and also the prices going up so much, I'm not sure we'll go back to it, really. He says he thinks he'd rather just leave it off completely so that he doesn't forget and risk that pain again. I suppose I can be just as happy with teas when we find ourselves heading back into cool weather.

HRH is lobbying for cornbread for supper.

He's resisting me on his own laundry... .. hmmm.

Just figured out how to git rid of scam calls
hold phone up in front of pc while listening to you tube
they heard it and hung up.
It was unintentional but good to know.
Also to hand up and call em right back Google said was a good way to get rid of em too.

The supper was good. I enjoyed some cornbread in milk, like when I was a child. My favorite.

Had a nice chat on the phone with dd26. Another brief one with ddolder - she has to make the trip to college earlier than she'd thought and it's tomorrow, so she's stressed. She has two in-person meetings in the morning at her own univ. and then off to the other at noon. I can't think how late it might be when she gets back.

I talked with dd26 about the date later in the month when her Dad and I have overlapping appts and might need some help getting me to mine.

Found out there's bday get-togethers at restaurants for both an aunt and an uncle of HRH's mid-month.
