New Habit Tuesday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

Here's an excerpt from James Clear's Atomic Habits on building new habits...https://jamesclear.com/three-steps-habit-change

Over in Health and Fitness LadyM and kittykatt are building new habits, day by day.

I'm thinking today about the habit loop of building a new habit: cue, craving, response, reward, and how to integrate that loop for better habits for me.

The construction folks' work here has gotten off to a slow start. I've cleared the closet, which requires taking all the clothes out and laying them across the bed and removing all the storage boxes from the upper shelf. Then HRH has to remove the shelf itself and the clothes rod.

But the fellow hasn't yet come in to head up into the access. It's frustrating because an overshirt I wanted to wear today ends up being inaccessible because it's one of the lowest items of clothing laying on the bed. I'm actually wearing a shirt of HRH's over my tee right now. Sigh. And I'd assumed I would eat after he did that this morning, when he'd gone back outside. I finally just made myself a bowl of cereal because I was getting hungry.

This is an ordinary long rectangular clothes closet. No, there are no stairs or any way to have them. Like lucylee remembers her dad doing, you would haul yourself up somehow or bring in a ladder.

Well, he's up there.
LOL. He found mason jars with holes in the lids, holding mothballs for a half-century or so, after an old-fashioned homemade pest control effort. There were several around the attic. And that is all. Well, a couple snake skins. He took lots of photos again.

The rafters are okay. Nothing needs to be replaced. whew. There is some ugly water stains, but it is from years ago and didn't damage structure. Someone's interim idea (who knows when) of filling little spaces with that foam that solidifies was not so smart in the long run. Now it is becoming a haven for mold, so he wants to remove that. (work, I'm sure, but he's right that we would want that gone. He says masks, etc., would be his responsibility and for me not to worry about him, he's done this before.)

Good morning, all! I'm here a little earlier than yesterday, which may or may not be a good thing. Being here early yesterday lit enough of a fire under me that I got almost all of my daily cards done. OTOH, I have just CUOPed from yesterday, and there were so many posts I cannot keep them all in mind.

Twins, I followed the link, and I cannot help but wonder what the influence of various neurotransmitters or the lack thereof does to that cycle.

Harriet, the house I grew up in had similar attic access in my bedroom closet, so I feel your pain! However, my attic access has gotten easier as time has gone on -- the house we were in when we were first married had one of those pull-down staircases, and in this house, the attic is a semi-finished third floor with proper steps up.

Oh, blessed, I'm sorry your mom isn't doing well after such a good day yesterday. Do you think she might have overtaxed herself, or is this weakness not just a matter of energy?

Small triumph -- DC actually roused themself and came downstairs the second time I woke them. There is hope that they will get to class on time next week!

It's just about our agreed-upon time for working in the playroom, so I will go do that. Hopefully, we can finish the Barbies today. It doesn't look like they're giving away many, but we did clear them out at some time in the past, so there are only two shoeboxes worth. However, there are some playsets that take up space that I hope I can convince them to give away.

Checked on payroll -- nothing yet. I am supposed to get something to do this week. After the playroom, it will be lunchtime; I must remember to do chair exercises after.

Have a great day, everyone!

Good morning

Homeschool wrapped up at 10:21 a.m. today—Sweet! I love it when DS17 is super motivated to tackle his lessons and assignments. They are graded and I am done with that for the day.

I have returned to using hip pad (aka paper). That is a sign that I am feeling overwhelmed and need to be intentional in capturing information coming at me.

RR - how are you feeling today?

Thanks Twins for that link I've read that book. Great reminder.
Harriet I recently had that happen with my coat closet access for the fan install.
Had to move the vacuum & coats shelf and rod my self as well.

Was up at 4 took trash to curb went back to bed and slept 2 more hrs.

LadyM and all.

My appointment with my doctor proved interesting yesterday. I have no infection infections and healing has started and looks good. What the dr explained to me Is that many people who suffer from migraines often have what he calls sinus migraines that are contributed from the surgery.

Of course, my migraines are much different than a lot of other people in that. It only affects one side of my face where as this pain has been all over my head. His suggestion was to increase the Tylenol and ibuprofen that I’m taking to 1000 mg of Tylenol at 600 mg of ibuprofen. If that doesn’t help my headache and my other facial pain, he suggested I go ahead and take my migraine medicine and it should be able to help.

Never heard of a sinus migraine before. However, this doctors experience is vast. Though Young, he excelled in all of the schooling that he did plus, he’s also worked in bi-medical research which is part of his passion.

Anyway, I came home and took the ibuprofen and the Tylenol and waited for a while and it seemed to help. This is the first night I’ve slept without getting up and walking around.

Lady M… I thought of you when I left the doctors office because I was starving. I don’t often eat fast food as y’all know, but I had a hankering for a whopper. So I stopped and got a whopper french fries and a vanilla milkshake. Something I haven’t eaten in years, but boy did it taste good.

Got up this morning and started my routines and picking up footprints. And then colored my hair like Lucy Lee. I was debating on letting it go gray, but that lasted about a week and now I’m back to my normal natural bottled hair color.

Don’t know what the rest of my day will be should be interesting.

Blessed thinking of you and your mom and I hope today gets better for you

Thanks for your concerned about how I’m feeling. I really appreciated that.

Hi!

I haven't done anything other than make dh a coffee along with a hot tea for myself. Other than that, nothing. After I let the cats out this morning and checked my e mails, I went back to bed and slept another 2 hours. After the coffee/tea, I read some FBook stuff and then I went and laid down on the bed to read. Now I am on the computer again.

We are having Shepherd's Pie for supper. Meat is thawing in the sink. I also took out a cottage roll for tomorrow. It's cool and overcast here.

I had a dermatologist appt at 10:30 this a.m. and am back. I had put time on the calendar today to visit another cousin - the elder of the two is a paternal first cousin of my dfather although df grew up with her mother. The daughter is my age - we were babies together. The daughter is not feeling well today but suggested a weekend earlier in the day. Said he dmom, over 80 now, is going to sleep around 4 p.m. I'd like to see her again before it's too late.

Dh has left to go to Costco. I reminded him that we don't need to let the freezer get filled up right now - I'll be making brisket to put in the freezer before we go back to the beach on 6 September. That's for Rosh Hashanah, which is only about a week and a half after we come home from the beach.

Figuring out the day now. Stuff I need to do but stuff I'd rather do.
