Re: Widgery Cross Wednesday
Widgery Cross near the village of Lydford, Devon, was erected on Bray Tor (also known as Brat Tor and Widgery Tor) by the artist William Widgery to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. The cross is also known as the Jubilee Cross.
Widgery Criss is a Latin cross made from 10 courses of granite blocks, and It's the only Dartmoor cross constructed from blocks rather than a single piece of granite. It is the tallest cross on Dartmoor. The cross is almost 12ft 8 inches (3.86 metres) in height and has a span of 4ft 4 inches (1.32 metres), the words “W. Widgery, Fecit, Jubilee VR” are inscribed on the eastern side of the base stone. The cross is orientated on a east – west alignment.
There is a free car park not far from the base of the Tor which can be reached by turning up a track which runs alongside the Dartmoor Inn on the A386. It is approximately a 40 minute walk to the top and very well worth the effort to see the wonderful views.

Re: Widgery Cross Wednesday
Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday!
Helia, your dinner sounds delicious! You're no the only one to struggle to do things after lunch. I wonder if it's our digestive process telling us to slow down for a bit?
Yes, you're right, DH's lunch box is the Bento one. He took it to work with him today, and has already sent me a WhatsApp to show everything neatly set out inside .
Trissie, thank you for the advice - I'll let DF CW know , after all, knowledge is power!
Gma, how lovely your DBro is here for a visit.
L.Ann, lemonade cookies sound very nice. G nearly 13 and L 11 yo made cookies yesterday while DF CW was at work ( they were being watched by G's Grandad, as CW doesn't like to leave them alone all day). They were actually surprisingly good, but poor CW was not amused at the state her kitchen was in when she got home from work!
Laura, that is an excellent idea to have booked your massage appointment, so your DDad knows you * have* to leave at a specific time.
Dogged, I'm glad you enjoyed your dinner with your friend .
I had a productive afternoon yesterday , and then spent most of the evening in WhatsApp with DF PM. She is going to phone me this morning about an important personal matter. I know some of the background, but she's going to fill me in on the details. She's the kind of person who always thinks the best of people, and tries to help them, and I fear in this case she has been badly let down. I don't think she feels she can tell anyone else, so, Ladies, I would value your prayers for wisdom on how to listen and to respond , compassionately and wisely.
Apart from that I have a free day. DH is at the office, so I have the house to myself.

Re: Widgery Cross Wednesday
Good morning, all. I woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep so I got a couple of things done.
Thank you for starting us off, Kittykatt. I hope that your visit with your DF goes well and is not too difficult.
Good morning, L.Ann. I see that you are up early. How is your hand doing?
I've got the breadmaker going, so I'll see if I can go back to sleep.
Wednesday
Cleaned up after dog
Treat and probiotic for dog
Put away dry dishes
Tried to repair breadmaker
Searched for breadmaker manual, which seems to have disappeared after o/s reinstallation
Searched online for breadmaker manual that has the cornbread recipe
Filled/started breadmaker and put a flat of dog food on top to hold the lid in place

Re: Widgery Cross Wednesday
Morning all. Kittykat I pray your conversation goes well. Sometimes we don't have to have all the answers just a listening and understanding ear makes all the difference. And maybe a support for what is next.
Doggedly you did wake up early. Hope you get more rest as I am sure you were up later. Yum. Bread. I got rid of the breadmaker cause I failed every time trying to make it work.
Lann that sounds really painful.
Thanks for the support on the timing. Yes that way it won't tie me down all day. I did not plan it that way. I saw my therapist friend at the store last week. Told her I wanted to come see her. When I booked it that is what she offered. Now I have to hold dad to being on time. I was thinking of dealing with potatoes a little. Depends on mom if she's up or in bed. And it depends how I feel as when I booked my massage I was having a few good days painwise. I know it doesn't last though and now my whole body is feeling it from neck to legs and feet. I don't know if I feel like digging but I don't know when.
I am going to start my day with a soak and take something before I go. It's will help relax. I'll figure out the rest of the day when I'm back. I can start with routines though.

Re: Widgery Cross Wednesday
Good morning/ good afternoon, L.Ann, Dogged, Helian and Laura.
Thank you all for your support. I will make individual replies later, but I've just got off the phone with DF PM after 2.5 hours, and I'm mentally exhausted. Basically, yesterday afternoon she had a phone call, which confirmed what I had suspected for some time now (and I had shared my suspicions with her, in what I hope was a kind and tactful, but still forthright way) that the young man who did some work for us about 18 months ago, but who then struck a hard patch in his life, and who she has been helping and mentoring for well over a year, is in fact a drug addicted scammer, who has also scammed several other ladies out of large sums of money.
.
That's it in a nutshell. DF PM is ok, and she said to me that she had also suspected something amiss in the last couple of months, as there had been some (seemingly insignificant at the time, but later proved to be very significant) inconsistencies in his story.
There is of course a lot more to the story, which I'll try and post in J&C later on, but I really need some lunch, some time to process, and I also need to text DF CW, as she also knew this young man, to advise her to block his number, and also not to answer the phone if she's called by an unknown number. (He doesn't have access to his phone any more, so he could well get another one with a different number and try with that). After all, if the caller is genuine, they'll leave a voicemail.
Hopefully BBL!
