Morning all. Interesting geography and such here.

Trissie I am also gearing up for school. Do you mean slippers like fuzzy house ones? Or just another good pair of shoes . Here in elementary school they wear indoor shoes. Just runners that usually have white on the bottom not to mark floors. Never wear those outside unless of fire drill or something. In high school they do just wear whatever in or out with a pair of indoors just for the gym. Ds outgrew his basketball shoes end of season and got new ones close to the end of school. He's barely worn them. But dh had him out helping with yard work and he only has the one outdoor pair which now today needs to be cleaned somehow. He even got something inside them and when he walked Casper last night got something rubbed on his foot. Blistered a bit. Those need cleaning.

Do I want to dig potatoes today or Monday? When I can have dh help. I guess I will ask dh. And also depends. I don't really want to watch mom and try and do that. If I do end up out there I should try and go through dad's canning stuff. Dump the old stuff. Sort the jars and take some for dd. Save some for ddil if she wants some. That is if dad should ask me to come. If not I have a lot to do here.

I wonder what we could do here on Monday. If I did the garden today. Did I tell you all my dreams? Dh almost finished the lower level backyard leveling before dad got the tractor back. Now I can almost see a whole beautiful park and new garden down there. If it dries up properly in spring. I can see lawn and a wildflower bed. A gazebo and firepit. Maybe I said that all the other day.

Oh and hopefully sometime see ds and ddil and dgs. Ds did not get last weekend off and I think she was at her parents house and who knows maybe some out there with him.

Hello, everyone!

Trissie, you've reminded me I have a big bag of apples to process - DSisIL gave DH some from their tree. I guess apple crumble tomorrow for dessert, and then portion and freeze the rest of the cooked apple?

What are you hoping to see at the movies, L.Ann?

Helian, yes, you're right, most of the land makes are reasonably in local where we live. We also don't wear outdoor shoes in the house. DH usually wears moccasin type slippers and I usually wear my "indoor trainers", a pair I bought specifically to use only indoors. Primarily because they support my feet better than slippers, and I can wear my orthotics on them. They have also been useful on the very rare occasions when I had to get out of the house quickly, like when I had to rush Matilda to the vet back in July. I just bundled her into a carrier, grabbed my phone and keys and left.

Laura, I hope you can spend at least part of your day at home. Your dreams for your garden sound lovely!

I've got downstairs looking respectable, although Matilda has decided that the rug needs to be "killed" and wrestled with. Again. DH made yummy bacon sandwiches for lunch, and has now gone to get a piece of wood cut to make a shelf in his cupboard under the desk in the spare room. Hopefully this will create more useable space in there so we can get rid of the crate of "stuff". It will also make it easier to find things!

Matilda has just got off my lap, so I'm going to see if I can get the heating set to come on low. It's only 13C even now and raining, so everything feels chilly and, of course, the towels I washed earlier aren't drying. Then I think I'll see if I can find my light box which I *think* is in a drawer under the bed. I know it's not even September yet, but it's good to be prepared!

Some spare time at last to visit the boards ! Last weekend before school starts again. A 4-day week at payroll, lots of catching-up, boss is mysteriously nice and friendly with me (and with another lady she usually won't speak to), weird, but... not my monkeys.
MrNG is possibly being offered a seat to a year-long training, unpaid, for a diploma that would allow him to apply for jobs at places like nursing homes or foster homes for disabled adults, or other medical-related places. He has the skills to manage a large group or a large team but this diploma is needed for those jobs in France. Anyway, that means another year living with only one salary, and adding the costs of daycare after school and on Wednesdays and part of the school breaks (numerous school breaks in France). But more or less guaranteed that he will earn better wages when he has his degree... Long story short, we will know by Tuesday if he can join the training. Oh and it costs a few thousand euros, and the classes are almost 1 hour away. It should be interesting. He got the news on Friday and has to submit an "appliance" letter before Monday morning, so he's spend all day on his computer and will keep working most of the weekend.

trissie good luck with the harvest-related tasks. Are plums ripe only now at your place ? Here they were one month ago. It's been a great year for plums. We've had slippers at school at our previous school, as a result DS9 was careful to wear socks that didn't have holes in them . The current school doesn't do slippers anymore. It did mean some effort every year in September : buying slippers, buying new socks .

kittykatt any added shalving is good news. I seem to remember your house is rather small, and not much storage space in it. Good luck with the changing weather... we've had rain for a few days, it makes going back to school less difficcult I guess.

Laura I love your garden dreams. We harvested potatoes from the garden this past week, I hope your harvest is as successful as ours.

helia, I can see how your day will be busy. Sorry your dinner with your DH was a bit depressing, but glad you got ice cream to make it better !

Frenchie, it depends on the plum species and the location - we usually are a week or two behind on everything compared to the people living downhill from us (it's so obvious in the spring with forsythias - the people five streets from us will have them blooming two weeks before the ones in our street start!). But all in all, it's generally a late August / early September fruit here. Good luck deciding what to do about MrNiceGuy's job training, it really is a tough decision
kittykatt, if you have no better ideas, stewed apples (chopped apples, bit of water, cinnamon stick, cloves, a couple slices of lemon, bit of sugar to taste, cook together till apples start to fall apart) are a perfect end of summer treat, to be eaten hot, lukewarm or cooled - it's a favourite in our household!
L.Ann, you know the holidays are coming even if I don't mention them, right?
lauralind, the school slippers are expected to be something non-slippery and with proper sole, for smaller kids something that does not fall off the foot (like these: https://obchod.bota-bota.cz/prezuvky/fh ... 33-5302491 ) and older kids generally wear some kind of sturdy sandals (like these: https://obchod.bota-bota.cz/ortopedicko ... ta-di-moro ), or something else that's an open shoe. Sneakers would be too much of work to put on

Trissie that's interesting. Here they do expect that if you bring lace up shoes you have to know how to tie them. Velcro was popular and that was a bit of an issue for ds. He had Velcro and near the top grades he managed to get them to stay done up. Slip on would be nice.

You have so many winter birthdays lann. Adds to the gift buying and get together. Though some are the far away kids right?

Holidays?? I'm so not ready. Except I was working on explaining the season change at work. One suggested Halloween end already... nope too soon. I could skip that one . I have to think a little different this year but I am looking forward to it. We booked Christmas off . Going to dd and dh dad for Christmas. Meaning one thing... figure out how to work and early gathering here with my crazy family drama going on. Dad is not going to like it but we have never been away and now dd and dsil are there. Might help dd host the inlaw crew at her house. Hopefully ds and ddil and dgs can come.

Well I have a clean kitchen. Decluttered and scrubbed down my coffee bar. Clean the machine and the drawer and everything. Oh I am messy. I have 2 boxes of tea I am going to bring to church. Only ds drinks much tea now. And we have a few favorites.

lauralind, I think it's crazy that the stores are basically out of seasonal stuff two months before the season starts!

Very tired. But I still have a batch of that plum tea in the oven and I need to deal with the rest of today's laundry as it's on our bed!
