Ring binders (loose leaf binders, looseleaf binders, or sometimes called files in Britain) are large folders that contain file folders or hole punched papers (called loose leaves). These binders come in various sizes and can accommodate an array of paper sizes. These are held in the binder by circular or D-shaped retainers, onto which the contents are threaded. In North America, the rings themselves come in a variety of sizes, including 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 inches (13, 25, 38, and 51 mm), though other sizes are also available. The rings may be secured by lever arch mechanisms or other securing systems. The binders themselves are typically made from plastic with metal rings. Early designs were patented during the late 19th century.

American Henry Tillinghast Sisson invented a "new and useful improvement in portfolios and paper files" he called a "temporary binder." It used a spring inside a tube to hold papers securely. He received patent no. 23506 on April 5, 1859.

German Friedrich Soennecken invented ring binders in 1886 in Bonn. He also registered a patent on 14 November 1886 for his Papierlocher für Sammelmappen ("paper punch for binders", or hole punch). German Louis Leitz, founder of Leitz, later made some important changes to the development of ring binders in Stuttgart. Leitz created the lever arch file, a standing binder with a riveted lever arch mechanism (the lever can be easily opened, closed and locked) and space-saving slots into the cover, thereby introducing the modern ring binder.

Another design for ring binders was invented in 1889 by Andreas Tengwall in Helsingborg, Sweden, and patented in 1890 under the name "Trio binder", named after a business consortium of Tengwall and two associates. Tengwall's design uses four rings, in two paired sets. The hole placement of Tengwall's trio binder is still used as a de facto standard for hole punching in Sweden under the name triohålning. These holes are 21 millimetres (0.83 in), 70 millimetres (2.8 in), and 21 millimetres (0.83 in) apart.

William P. Pitt obtained patent no. 778070 on December 20, 1904 for a 3-ring binder that became a standard in the United States. The North American de facto standard spacing is 4.25 inches (108 mm) between holes.

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for the start. I remember when we graduated from exercise books to loose leaf folders in the 6th form - we felt very grown up!

A quick CI as I need to get up and moving early. I *think* the roadworks are.mostly finished (for now) but, of course, the schools are back, and that makes traffic heavier!

Morning all. I bet there is more traffic in school start up kittykat. Is yours actually a big city you live in or a smaller size one? I guess that is perspective but it seems your comute is city like.

I'm glad you got your phone gma.

Doggedly I would definitely think there's limits on what you need at Costco. Large quantities. We usually stock up on meat. But you do have to think a bit if it's cheaper. Most of it is that I can divide the package in several meals and fill the freezer like that where one pack is a meal from here.

I have to think. I did ok yesterday. Except for a bit of a whirlwind at the end. All my laundry is done. 3 beds clean and remade. Kitchen is ok after I actually finish supper clean up. And I got rid of a donate bag and sorted my craft room. I have 4 smaller totes of yarn and I need 2 new ones. I am ready to get my shelving and put it up. Then I can set up the room for mending and find what yarn I want. And maybe use the desk for my qt reading and journal space. And painting? And ... a spare bed if more than one set of family should come at once.

The end of the day was chaotic. I went for a walk with Casper. Came back at 530 and he gulped a bunch of water and must have swallowed something wrong. Promptly all his water came back out all on the area rug under the table. My pillow top was outside drying. He made me quick shampoo my rug and get ds to put chicken on the grill so I could still be otd before 7.

Now I have to just put my table back on the rug and fix a few things. And feel so much better about the house.

And I knew it. Still quite a bit of freight to do at work. Going to pace myself a bit and recruit help loading when I need it. Put things back together here a bit and start work after school run. Then I can stay there without the back and forth.

Today's tada list

Shower
S&s both baths and put away laundry
Tidy laundry room and master bedroom

Show dh what I want with shelves before work
Get him to help with table
Tidy kitchen all the way
Finish getting ready for work
School run

lauralind, you're lucky that your DS likes cooking so much! My kids don't :-( it's something that we need to work on this school year.
helia, are you packing up DD's stuff for storage? What is your plan with the room?
yum eggplant, L.Ann!
kittykatt, how was church today?

Home from work. Very late today, got held at a meeting and then the follow up crisis, and also had to run some errands, and then, when I finally got to my car and hit the road for the final 8 mile stretch home, there was a major traffic incident! There's a stretch of a rather narrow very winding road, about half a mile in a steep hill, that's been partially closed due to roadworks (the load bearing wall in the hill is badly damaged and it's taken two years to come up with a solution and the last 12 or so months construction has been underway). Anyway, it allows for about 4 minutes of downhill traffic followed by 4 minutes of uphill traffic, and it's annoying, but we're on fourth year and you just get used to it. Today, something happened and as I was about halfway uphill, suddenly traffic started coming from the other direction! It was total madness and chaos, but I did manage to get out there somehow.

Anyway, I can totally tell today will not be a productive day, but that's life, and I gotta do my best nevertheless!

TaDas
- morning madness
- day at work
- errands on the way home
- pick up DBD
- soaking two t-shirts in bleach
- started a batch of plum butter

ToDos
- morning routine
- 15 min on laundry
- 15 in living room

Good morning! Thanks for starting us off, trissie. So many good memories bound up with those 3 ring binders! I still use them.

Hi/bye, Kittykatt.

Good morning, L.Ann.

Got my fingers crossed for your sun this afternoon, helia. We are in for rain here.

Lauralind, the meat that I looked at in the store was actually more expensive than the price I pay in grocery stores. Just as well for me, as I have that small refrigerator freezer section that doesn't keep a consistent temperature. So for ground beef, I will just wait for sales. The rotisserie chicken was a great deal as compared to grocery stores, and some of the cheeses were, but other cheeses were more expensive. So there are bargains to be had in the warehouse.
To get my discount for signing up, I had to shop from their web site. That was an eye opener. On their web site, none of the grocery prices were better than the grocery stores. I would definitely be paying extra to do my groceries online at Costco. One shocker was the coffee. It's about twice the price that I pay in stores.
I'm getting a deal because I'm getting $65 back on the purchase, but without that, the only thing that I think was a good price is a very big box of dog poop n scoop bags.
I'll try out the membership, I'll take my db to Costco when I visit him so that he can stock up on the things that he loves. I'll offer to take my other dfs who don't have Costco memberships, and I'll ask my dfs who do for advice on what's a good bargain.
Big way to go on all that you got done on your house. What a great feeling to come in and feel that the house is under control.

That would be so frightening, trissie. I'm glad that you got home okey. Here, construction crews are required to have a person at both ends controlling the traffic. They coordinate with each other to only allow traffic through from one direction at a time.

Hi, Peaches

Thursday

☀️Good morning!🤩
It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, won’t you be my neighbor.

Thanks for the start, Trissie. I loved organizing binders but they were a pain to carry around. And as helia mentioned, pinched fingers were no fun. Sorry helia had to laugh at that bc I’ve done that and it brought back memories. You’d think that they could have improved upon that in over 100 years. :P

Kittykatt, hope traffic isn’t too bad.

LAnn, 👋

Laura, hope your foot is ok and Casper too.

Trissie, glad you got home safely.

Doggedly, I’m glad you made it to Costco and hope the chicken lived up to its expectations. I’ve seen people waiting in line for it in warehouse clubs but I haven’t bought one in awhile. I don’t go often but when I do I try for times when everyone is working so it’s not so crowded, I still have to maneuver around those large carts so it can be like driving in busy traffic.

Gma, lol at “saw the cake and forgot I was fasting” (paraphrased), sounds like something I’d do.

From the other day, I keep forgetting to explain, “The UnXplained” is a show on the history channel, it goes into detail on wide ranging topics from nature, weather, the mind, ancient buildings, history, you name it, so you learn more about each topic.

I’ve had toast and coffee, read Ephesians, deleted emails, responded to a text (generator company offering to help with propane), watched a local news show with recipes and a dog show/competition in our area this weekend, dogs fed, …
For now I need to finish pet chores and start on my water intake.
♥ Wake each day expecting good things to happen! ♥
