Re: Washington Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Mount Washington is a deeply eroded volcano in the Cascade Range of Oregon. It lies within Deschutes and Linn counties and is surrounded by the Mount Washington Wilderness area.
Like the rest of the Oregon Cascades, Mount Washington was produced by the subduction of the oceanic Juan de Fuca tectonic plate under the continental North American tectonic plate, forming during the late Pleistocene. Made mostly of mafic (rich in magnesium and iron) volcanic rock like subalkaline basalt and basaltic andesite, it has a volcanic plug occupying its summit cone and numerous dikes. It is surrounded by other volcanic features such as cinder cones and spatter cones. The volcano's last eruptions took place from spatter cones about 1,350 years ago, generating basaltic andesite lava deposits.
Mount Washington has barren surroundings, which have seen little historical recreational use. A wagon road at McKenzie Pass was built in 1872, which was later paved during the 1930s. On August 26, 1923, the mountain was first ascended by six boys from the neighboring city of Bend. The surrounding area was designated the Mount Washington Wilderness by the federal government in 1964. The wilderness area is not heavily used, though it has a number of hiking trails. Wildlife is sparse in the region. Vegetation is mostly limited to pines and shrubs. Animal life includes deer, American black bear, cougar, various small animal species, and some fish species in the lakes.
Washington is part of the informal group of volcanoes known as Oregon's Matterhorns, which includes Mount Thielsen, Three Fingered Jack, Mount Bailey, and Diamond Peak. The name originates from the spire-like appearance of the volcanoes' summits, which resembles the pinnacle of the Matterhorn in Switzerland. They all ceased eruptive activity at least 100,000 to 250,000 years ago, leading to their extensive dissection by glaciers over time. Mount Washington is also part of the Sisters Reach subsegment, which extends for 56 miles (90 km) and contains at least 466 volcanoes that were active during the Quaternary. Washington represents one of 30 mafic (rich in magnesium and iron) stratovolcanoes and shield volcanoes in the group, which include Pleistocene and Holocene eruptive centers. The volcano and its wilderness area sit on a lava platform with an altitude of 4,000 to 5,000 feet (1,200 to 1,500 m), and they are bounded by faults to the east and west. Volcanic rocks contained within the wilderness area are either composed of older basalt or younger basaltic andesite, all of which were produced during the Quaternary, probably during the past 700,000 years. Pleistocene deposits show evidence of erosion by glaciers. Holocene deposits, dated between 3,000 and 1,500 years old, encompass about half of the wilderness area, and they also occur outside the wilderness area at its northwestern and southern borders.

Re: Washington Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us off.
Bama, I'm not a fan of slime either, and I do t think DF CW is, but she reasons that when G and L are making slime and trying to perfect their "recipe", they are doing something creative and not staring at a screen all day. So she banished it outside, (along with the water balloons!) and as the weather has been mostly good this summer, everyone was happy!
It's still dark outside, so I'm not sure if it's raining or not, but the forecast is for rain today. I'm still in bed doing my lightbox session with a cup of tea (and all three of the cats!
)
DH goes to the office today. I need to bag up that tottering pile of clothes for donation that I keep moving every time I clean.
(I even brought a bag upstairs with me last night so I could "just do it" this morning.) Then, if the rain stops, I can walk it over to the charity bank. Also, if dry, I would like to top dress those last pots of bulbs. If it stays wet, then maybe I could tackle those two drawers under the bed? Upstairs could do with PUPA and a quick hoover. There are a few admin tasks I should do, and of course, Wednesday is kitchen day, so there's plenty to keep me occupied!

Re: Washington Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Well, it's raining heavily,
so I've decided to tackle all those little admin jobs that were OMM, while listening through the open window to cars driving across the flooded road by the bridge. ( It's at the bottom of the hill, so we're in no danger of flooding!
) So far, Ive sent an email to the parish administrator a d asked her to design a poster for parish Christmas lunch (she's good at things like that. We've agreed we won't publicise the Christmas lunch until after the harvest supper in October, so people don't get confused, but we can still do things in the background, as I don't want to leave it until the last minute). I've also sorted out the banking, and tried to work out whether we'll do a direct claim from Petplan for Freddie's upcoming blood test next week. So far, probably yes, but I'll wait until I've chatted to the vet next Tuesday. In any case I need to ensure I take his insurance documents with me then. (I do have them on my phone, but a paper copy is easier for the staff to look at!)
Freddie is asking why he can't go for his walk, Matilda is tearing round the house, and Jude is asleep on the bed

Hi, trissie. Thank you for start us off.
Do your cats like the light box, Kittykatt? I can picture you trying to get in front of it with the cats sunning themselves directly in front of it, LOL.
I'm not really up yet. I had to rescue Germane from behind the TV stand and spot clean the floor in various locations. She is now safely sleeping on her fleecy in the bathroom, and I am free to go back to bed.

Dogged, Jude just ignores the lightbox and goes to sleep. Fred would push it out the way if it impeded his mission to find food.
I think Matilda may have been looking at it as she's very had the "zoomies" this morning!
I think the rain has eased off enough that I can venture out with Fred for his walk, and then take the rubbish out. And then we shall see...

Re: Washington Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Trissie, thanks for the start. I’m also thankful these volcanoes aren’t active.
Kittykatt, it was fun adding different things to the slime but the texture was just weird. I hope you’re enjoying some fresh, clean air after the rain today.
Dogged, I’m not up really either, must be sleep typing. Get your rest, this is all a dream.
Thanks for checking in, gma.
Laura, no fair you get all the cute furry animals. Except for the fruit flies of course. We get those too and it makes me feel icky when I have to cook with them around. Fortunately I haven’t seen any this year. We do have lovebugs right now so I’m hoping you Canadians will send down more cold air to run them off.
It was dark when I started posting, now the sun is coming up. Do I stay up or nap a little more…tbd.

Re: Washington Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Thank you for an interesting start, trissie! Interestingly, Mt. Rainier in the Cascade Range in Washington State is technically considered an active volcano, although it hasn't erupted for 1,000 years and no one knows if/ when it will erupt next. If it does, mud flows could reach some of the communities near Seattle. Mt. St. Helens is also considered an active volcano in the same range.
You are up early, Bama! Thank you for the offer but you can keep the possums.
Sleep well and see you soon, Doggedly.
Did Fred appreciate his walk, Kitty?
I'm up but off to a slow start. I need to finish prep for class by 10:45 this morning, and then I'll be otd to payroll. I'll go straight from payroll to check on Mom. I don't think I'll stay long. I'm going to eat lunch at home (it will be after 2 pm) + I need to get a meal ready to bring to friends late this afternoon. A walk/ jog would be good -- as always. I need to start making phone calls re: my mom. I emailed the trustee yesterday but haven't heard back yet. We're having leftovers for dinner.
Our weather forecast says highs around 80*F for the foreseeable future. No rain.
We'll all enjoy this last hurrah of summer!
