The Southern Thule Islands, at the southern end of the South Sandwich island arc bordering the Scotia Sea, consist of three stratovolcanoes constructed along an E-W-trending line.

An ice-filled 1.5-2 km wide caldera truncates the summit of andesitic-dacitic Thule, the westernmost island, and a 4.3 x 4.8 km submarine caldera forms Douglas Strait between Thule and basaltic-to-dacitic Cook Island.

Another possible submarine caldera lies east of Cook Island and south of basaltic-andesite Bellingshausen, the easternmost island. The age of Cook Island is uncertain, but steam was observed at the summit crater of Thule Island in 1962, and ash was seen on the surface of the ice there and on Bellingshausen Island, indicating possible 20th-century eruptions (Baker, 1968).

Bellingshausen Island has a youthful, relatively ice-free profile and an extensive well-preserved lava field on its southern flank. A small explosion crater formed on the southern flank of Bellinghausen Island sometime between 1964 and 1986.

The last confirmed eruption of Thule Islands occurred around 1975.

And taking dfBS to Mayo Clinic Thursday for some tests. 2 hour drive each way, plus she will want to eat lunch at a nice restaurant. I do it willingly, but I sure have alot of other things to do as well )

Have a good morning at church, Kitty. Is there a group lunch today?

Last night, I sat with Mom until a little after 10 pm and then came home to sleep. She seemed comfortable. I haven't heard anything, so I'll plan to go in this morning and sit with her for a bit again. Dh thinks I should go in and sit with her a couple times today - but not spend the entire day by her side. That's true; there are some things I need to get done, though I have cleared my schedule for the day.

When I got home from the NH last night, I discovered I could cancel my flights to and from Seattle and get e-credit, which we can use on our trip to Seattle next month. So, that has worked out.

Today, assuming Mom is still with us - I haven't heard anything yet - I'll go sit with her a couple times. I also need to drop off dd29's contract, get a few items for dinner tonight (I have done poorly condensing grocery shopping into a single trip this week), and call the funeral home in Illinois. I might call my mom's church in IL as well. I should also prep IW D2; depending on the timing, I may have a sub tomorrow. And a jog would be so good for my body and my soul. Maybe laundry.

I have not been sleeping well, and I can feel it.

The dogs were barking like crazy, I had let them outside, so I went to see what the ruckus was about, and a doe was eating my grass maybe 20 feet from the front porch. AND I saw my first two hummingbirds at the feeder. Cool way to start the day. God is good.

Hi, Peaches!

Finally back home after a busy but fun day. I managed to hoover the car,.drop off my flapjack at the Y and call in at the vets all before church. During the service today, we remembered the victims of 9/11 with a short silence. Then it was coffee and chat, and afterwards I took DF PM to the garden centre for shopping and lunch. I think I've bought all the pansies I'll need for my winter pots. Oh, and I also bought next year's wall calendar for the kitchen. Now I have to find a safe place where it won't get creased and I'll still remember where I've put it!

Then we went back to her house and I renewed my acquaintance with her beautiful Bella, and was rewarded with head rubs.

I've now unloaded the car and I'm sitting catching my breath until DH finishes work.
