Stromboli is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the north coast of Sicily, containing Mount Stromboli, one of the four active volcanoes in Italy. It is one of the seven Aeolian Islands, a volcanic arc north of Sicily, and the mythological home of Aeolus. The island, with an area of 12.6 square kilometres (4.9 sq mi), represents the upper third of the volcano. Its population was about 500 as of 2016..
Mount Stromboli has been in almost continuous eruption for the past 2,000–5,000 years :with minor eruptions, often visible from many points on the island and from the surrounding sea, giving rise to the island's nickname "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean. its last serious eruption occurred on 11 September, 1930 where 6 people were killed. Volcanic gas emissions from this volcano are measured by a multi-component gas analyzer system, which detects pre-eruptive degassing of rising magma, improving prediction of volcanic activity.

A hiker near the volcano's summit died after being struck by flying debris when the eruption began. Additionally, 6 people suffered minor injuries due to the eruption.
On 28 August 2019, at 10:16 local time, an explosive eruption sent a pyroclastic flow down the volcano's northern flank and into the sea, where it continued for several hundred meters before collapsing. The resulting ash column reached a height of 2,000 m (6,600 ft).

Sorry I'm not caught up on posts. Another very full week. And MrNG was busy with interviews to find an (unpaid) internship to go with his formal training. He has secured two possibilities, one is much closer to home than the other so I hope, for everybody's sanity here, than he gets, and chooses, to train there and not at the other one.
It's almost 8.30, in 10 minutes I need to wake up the kids, they both have sports on Saturday mornings this year. I'll drive DS9 first, then drive DS7. Both classes start at 10 but DS7's handball class only lasts 1 hour, then we will pick up DS9 at 11.30.
I intend to apply for a job offer that looks promising and closer to home than my current job. I need to find some spare time over the weekend, as the offer was published last Monday. And a lot of house tasks and chores and some admin stuff...

Good morning, FFB! Lots of changes coming to your household - good luck with the job application. Maybe Mr NG could amuse the DSs for a couple of hours so you can concentrate?
Yesterday afternoon I decluttered and spring cleaned the hall, which sounds a lot more impressive than the job really was. The hall is just a narrow rectangle with hooks for coats and a shoe rack. Still, I've washed my summer jacket and DH has been through his coats, and I've decluttered the box of cat toys. I even made a tiny start on the sitting room and did the ceiling and the lights and my windchimes.
Not sure if I'll get any more done in there today, as DH is home. Hmmm, maybe I could do the staircase instead if it rains today? And there's still those two drawers in under the bed. If it's dry I would like to plant more pansies in pots. I also have nematodes to water on to kill vine weevil (they love pansies!) but there's no point in doing that until they're all planted. And I still have 5 pots of bulbs that need top dressing, and the bag of free bulbs I was given at the garden centre to plant. And roses to prune - but I need dry weather for that. The forecast isn't great for today, so we'll see what the weather is actually doing when I'm up and dressed.
Taking of pet "accidents", yesterday when DH was at choir practice.amd.I was upstairs, Freddie came out of the kitchen (where he has a perfectly good clean tray) climbed onto DH"s chair and left a large puddle (DH admits he is partly to blame as he forgot to tip his chair up when he left) then came upstairs to where I was folding laundry, and made a large deposit in one of the other trays.
As far as I'm concerned that's another test he'll need at the vet on Tuesday to check for bladder crystals before it can be assumed to be a behavioural quirk. DH's opinion is unrepeatable!
So, lots of options for today. But first I need to get up!

Frenchie, crossing my fingers that MrNiceGuy's job close to home will work out! And I challenge you to make it a priority to apply for the one you found for yourself! I mean, come on, wouldn't you want to get rid of psycho-boss?
We were supposed to go to the cottage (DH has some work he needs to complete there before cold weather hits for real), but the girls were so slow getting ready that he took only DS with him. So now I have an extra day I did not plan on having! There's apples to deal with and there's deep cleaning, so I know exactly what I will do with this gift of time, but first things first!
I did get to do my discounted shopping yesterday. Couldn't decide between a practical long black coat (with a deep V-neckline, so a scarf would be needed) and a fashion-statement royal blue shorter coat (with buttons all the way up to the neck), so I ended up getting both
It's probably the first time in my life I will own two winter coats, I'm a "one of each" type of girl. Also got me two new colors of cardigans (navy and deep mauve) - my work dresscode used to be business suits and blazers, but the company I work for now is more relaxed, so it's skirts/pants with nice tops and cardigans are a perfect addition for colder weather. And a new perfume - unfortunately, the one I really loved (Idole from Armani) has been discontinued years ago, but I've found that Sensuous by Estee Lauder should be decent replacement, so I'll give it a try. My September goal is to finally get grown up about self care and nice perfumes are a part of that too!

Good morning, Trissie. Your new clothes on sound wonderful and you definitely deserve them. I'm, sure both coats will be perfect for different occasions, so they're an investment. DH's chair has a wood frame, and leather covered padding, so I had to set to with the special enzyme cleaner after DH mopped with kitchen roll (DH still doesn't understand that you need to thoroughly clean and deodorise the area, otherwise a cat's nose will lead them back to it (sigh!) Sorry if TMI!)
DH went out to run some errands, and I had I tended to hoover, but all three cats were in the kitchen, so I had a big mani / pedi, brush, flea control teol and laxapet session instead. Fred got a pass on nail clipping as the vet will do his next week, but even so, no one is currently speaking to me!
Ive had coffee with DH, put the first load of towels in the machine a d run the hoover round the kitchen. Now DH is creating his special spaghetti Bolognese for supper, and I really need to attack the house!

kittykatt, congrats on the spring cleaning, even in small areas, I'm sure you can see the difference when you walk through your hall. You remind me I need to go through our entrance / hall to check the jackets and coats. LOL at the cats not speaking to you after care sessions !
trissie so you're the only parent in the house, with three girls to supervise ? Not my idea of 'an extra day', or maybe I'm not sure what you mean : an extra day of duty ? I like to hear about your dressing habits (one of the reasons I hate shopping for clothes is that I've never been properly taught how to match clothes or what to wear where).
I should buy a new coat for the winter, too, and maybe throw away two very old ones. Yesterday I went shopping for clothes and in the shop I usually go, there was absolutely nothing I thought I would like to wear. I went to the other one in that shopping mall and fortunately I was able to buy two fine woollen tops I can wear at work - not sure what to wear with the black one, though, maybe khaki slacks? Or I should start wearing skirts at payroll - which means I need to buy shoes that go with a skirt... This is beyond my dressing skills
I may wear black with dark blue jeans. And another one the color of copper / rust with some sparkly thread in it, I may return if for reimbursement though.
Kids were happy with their sport classes, I had time to buy bread at the bakery there ( we still shop for bread there from time to time even though we have moved houses 2 years ago). Very convenient to have both classes at the same place at approx the same time.

tonight is family movie night - The Hobbit part 2 - with pizza and ice cream
trissie so you're the only parent in the house, with three girls to supervise ? Not my idea of 'an extra day', or maybe I'm not sure what you mean : an extra day of duty ? I like to hear about your dressing habits (one of the reasons I hate shopping for clothes is that I've never been properly taught how to match clothes or what to wear where).
I should buy a new coat for the winter, too, and maybe throw away two very old ones. Yesterday I went shopping for clothes and in the shop I usually go, there was absolutely nothing I thought I would like to wear. I went to the other one in that shopping mall and fortunately I was able to buy two fine woollen tops I can wear at work - not sure what to wear with the black one, though, maybe khaki slacks? Or I should start wearing skirts at payroll - which means I need to buy shoes that go with a skirt... This is beyond my dressing skills
I may wear black with dark blue jeans. And another one the color of copper / rust with some sparkly thread in it, I may return if for reimbursement though.Kids were happy with their sport classes, I had time to buy bread at the bakery there ( we still shop for bread there from time to time even though we have moved houses 2 years ago). Very convenient to have both classes at the same place at approx the same time.

Frenchie, the list of things that I need to get done at home in a week stays the same whether we go to the cottage or not - and if we do, I just need to cram them in a shorter time. When I worked in investment banking, it was always business formal for meetings and business for regular office days, now it's business for external meetings, business casual I want to make effort and smart casual if I don't want to be bothered
The large package of chicken breasts I bought yesterday (vacuum packed, should have been good till next Thursday) has a "use me up today" feel to it. I wasn't exactly planning on doing freezer cooking, I wanted to freeze it raw in portions, but I guess that's not an option now. Oh well, make plans and then adapt them, right, those freezer meals are going to be handy on busy nights and I am sure we're gonna have plenty of those in near future!
