helia, this might seem like a stupid question, but is it normal in the USA to have such a long time between the death and the funeral? Here's it usually 3-5 days tops. But maybe that's different if people are expected to fly in from all over.
Bama, I am sure once you google Audrey Tautou in Amelie, you will recognize her - her face used to be all over the place when that movie came out!

Home from work, and I have two hours before I need to leave again, because we have theatre tickets (courtesy of my bank). In that time, I need to get the kids to do their homework, make dinner, spiff up the house (my mother is babysitting), and get myself looking presentable enough to attend a show where the entire theatre is booked for prime-banking segment clients. Also, my mother thinks I will actually have time to talk with her. Uhm... I don't really foresee that happening!

Hi TRISSIE. My mom died on July 4th, Bama. She was 95. We are doing a short service on October 4th to put her ashes in the columbarium, helian. It will be family only. My sister planned the service with the priest but I need to get the ashes moved to a different “urn”/box so it will fit in the niche. We are going to a restaurant after but there will only be 7-9 of us. Hi Peaches. I hope Freddy survived his visit to the vet, kittykatt.

helia a "super small" celebration can absolutely be a nice and memorable one. I hope the organisations and decisions are easy on you.

trissie thanks for the French actresses in the titles. Both Sophie Marceau and Audray Tautou mean movies from my teenage years - although Amelie Poulain aired a bit later, I think. I hope you enjoy the show tonight.

About the gnome in Amelie : funny coincidence, yesterday MrNG mentioned how I keep putting my morning coffee cup in various places around the house in my morning hurry, and he said he finds it sometimes in new places, a bit like the gnome in Amelie Poulain. Of course it made me laugh then, and I laughed again this morning. I must have seen that movie 4 or 5 times, and still find it funny.
Spoiler alert about the gnome : if you can't see the movie, just know that someone gets their garden gnome stolen (I think Amelie does it), but then they get various postcards from the gnome with famous places all around the world, like the Sydney Opera or those Russian churches in Moscow or the Taj Mahal... in the end we understand that Ameli's friend who is an airline hostess has been taking pics of the gnome everywhere she went for a while.
Back home after payroll, took the time to harvest a few strawberries (yes there are still some growing!) and tomatoes and green beans. And what I think is the last zucchini. MrNG is cooking rice and we should eat dinner within minutes.

Plan B for the service. Now we're planning it for Sep. 26th as the 27th doesn't work at the church after all - if the funeral home can do it that day. Otherwise, maybe we just have 2 services on 2 days??

I'm now expecting a phone call from the pastor who can do the services as well as a call from the funeral home.

I think my main goal for the day is to solidify the date and time of the memorial service.

Ooohh, yeah, that's what happened to the gnome FFB! I just remember the gnome popping up in random and interesting places! LOL!
Enjoy the theater, trissie. Yeah, that's a good question which maybe others can answer. Yes, we are taking longer bc of people traveling from around the country (ds + F from WA state and cousins, possibly, from KS and us from MI). With Dad, the funeral home told us they could hold the body for a max of 3 weeks.
