The marabou stork (Leptoptilos crumenifer) is a large wading bird in the stork family Ciconiidae native to sub-Saharan Africa. It breeds in both wet and arid habitats, often near human habitation, especially landfill sites. It is sometimes called the "undertaker bird" due to its shape from behind: cloak-like wings and back, skinny white legs, and sometimes a large white mass of "hair". It has often been credited with the largest wingspan of any land bird, with an average of 2.6 metres (8.5 ft) and some recorded examples of up to 3.2 metres (10 ft).

Happy Monday!

So Terri decided that her hand is actually getting better and she does not need to be seen by a doctor. Well it's not my hand, and she's old enough to know herself (Katie claims she just doesn't want to go anywhere). The earliest next time I can go is Thursday, as I have in-office meetings Tue+Wed. Today, it's meetings running till 3:30, so I am working from home - really don't want to again get home at 5pm (plus I think the meeting will be pretty pointless so my on-site presence would not change anything).

On apple front, I did make another batch of apple sauce yesterday, and the apple pie I made - well, the kids were like "oh mom, you need to make it more often!" :-) There's a whole crate of nice large storage apples in the garage, so I guess I could fulfill their wish a couple times this fall :-) but tonight, I'm making apple bread, and probably a batch of chopped struedel apples. and of course more dried apples! :-)

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us off. I'm glad Terri says her hand feels better - maybe it was just bruised?

Laura, I think you're right, and Matilda is still in some pain, despite all her pain relief. But Gabapentin comes with a warning that it's likely to make her sleepy (a known side effect) so I was expecting, if anything , a more lethargic cat! However, having dug around a bit, I did find out that in some cats it actually makes them more active, anxious and vocal!!! Trust us to have one of those. (It reminded me of a story one of my friends used to tell about how she had to fly to Australia to visit her brother on her own with two small kids -I can't remember why her DH wasn't coming with her. Her GP very kindly gave her a little "something" to help relax the kids and help them to sleep on the plane. Which worked perfectly for the five year old, but the three year old spent the entire flight running up and down the central gangway!!!)

Fortunately Matilda seems to be improved this morning - a good night, and a relatively normal use of the litter tray this morning so far. I'll see how she gets on today and then decide tomorrow whether she needs to go back to the vet.

DH goes to the office today, and I hopefully have a free day to sort out the house, do something in the garden and maybe a couple of short walks. (My podiatrist last week said I have strained a ligament in my foot, and has prescribed some specific exercises, which fortunately are mostly straightforward to do, and recommended shorter walks on even ground ATM so as not to further irritate it.) This should keep me occupied and out of mischief!

Thank you for starting us off, trissie, and for the interesting bird. Hopefully, Terri is correct and her hand is on the mend.

I'm glad that Matilda seems to be improving, Kittykatt. All that I know about Gabapentin is that it has never stopped Germane from trying to bite the vet techs, even when it is paired with Trazadone.

Yesterday I was having one of those days where everything hurt, so I didn't get much done. I'm back to normal now, so I batched up the ground beef for the freezer and started the cottage roll cooking in the slow cooker. I'm just waiting for the slow cooker to get hot before I go to bed. I just want reassurance that it is still working before I leave $20 worth of meat sitting on the counter overnight.

Ha! I was right to be suspicious. The air fryer had blown the fuse, which is why the slow cooker wasn't getting hot. Problem solved.

Ooh water birds! This is going to be an interesting week. Thanks trissie! Well, glad you don't need to take T to the doctor today. Hope it truly is getting better.
Kitty, that story reminds me of when I once flew by myself from Texas to Chicago with ds age 1 and infant dd29. Friends told me I should give ds Benadryl to make him sleepy on the flight. I did -- and it had the opposite effect!! He was awake and very active the entire flight. Probably unrelated, but they both made multiple diapers as well. . . That was not a great flight -- but it was very memorable. LOL! Glad Matilda seems to be feeling better.
WTG problem solving Doggedly!

I need to get my class sorted first thing. I have my plan for the class, and I've got slides and activities for the first half. I need to flesh out the 2nd half now; I think I'll make a handout. I'm having (or trying to have) the students make outlines for their paragraphs, and I think some of them have never done that before. This is a lower level class, intermediate. I'm also being observed for the 2nd half, so I hope it's not barely controlled chaos today, which is always a possibility given the students I have. They're a very fun group, though, and I requested to have a class with them for that reason. :)

I'm glad I never had to fly alone with the kids, helia, even driving was enough when the twins were infants! :-) You must meet a lot of interesting people through your work!
Dogged, glad you caught the electricity mishap in time!
were you productive on your husband-free day, kittykatt?

Done with payroll for the day. I deleted a major rant about one of our departments as I do not want to dwell on their incompentence, instead will focus on my own competence! :-)

Morning all . I hope Matilda recovers soon kittykat.

Glad you figured out the issue with the slow cooker doggedly. Before you had cold meat in the morning.

Hopefully terri is right about her hand. Finding time for those things is hard so even better if you don't have to get it checked. Oh now you're done work already.

I think my trouble is the pain too doggedly. I don't understand. My whole back is feeling flared. My neck . And my jaw seems clenched. I thought things were calmer atm. And I thought I was fairly aligned. See what happens at work today. The girls better have done at least some of the lights project. Hopefully I don't have to do it all. Freight is gonna be later today so lots of time. Maybe movement will help but atm I don't feel like doing anything. Motivation is gone. Was yesterday too. So many projects I should be doing. And if nothing else I have yarn sitting there I could be crocheting.

Band was fun last night but that is not helping either cause I have totally forgotten how to relax with my instrument.

I should check in with my sister in hopes we can somehow make progress with dad's affairs now. I'm getting a bit worried that way. 7 months out from his surgery and he is still not getting stronger and I'm afraid he's going to overdo it being so determined. Mom is definitely getting weaker. And I am trying not to take that stress on.

Had my shower already in hopes it would help. Not really.

S&s both baths and reboot laundry
Tidy laundry room and master bedroom some
Empty and reload dw
Finish tidying kitchen all the way Declutter island again
Go find my greenhouse shelves and get the herb plants off the table
Finish getting ready for work
Call dentist at 8
School run and deposit check in bank get some cash
