Turnstones are two bird species that constitute the genus Arenaria in the family Scolopacidae. They are closely related to calidrid sandpipers and might be considered members of the tribe Calidriini.

The genus Arenaria was introduced by the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson in 1760 with the ruddy turnstone (Arenaria interpres) as the type species. The genus name arenaria is from Latin arenarius, "inhabiting sand", from arena, "sand".

The genus contains two species: the ruddy turnstone (Arenaria interpres) and the black turnstone (Arenaria melanocephala). Both birds are waders. Their length is typically between 20 and 25 cm, with a wingspan between 50 and 60 cm and a body mass between 110 and 130g. For waders their build is stocky, with short, slightly upturned, wedge shaped bills. They have white patches on the back, wings and tail. They are high Arctic breeders, and are migratory. Their strong necks and powerful, slightly upturned bills are adapted to their feeding technique. As the name implies, these species overturn stones, seaweed, and similar items in search of invertebrate prey. They are strictly coastal, prefer stony beaches to sand, and often share beach space with other species of waders such as purple sandpipers.

Slow morning here.
I hope you've had a good morning at church, Kitty.
I've never heard of a turnstone, trissie.

I'm up and slept about 8 hours so better than the previous nights. If I'm tired this afternoon, I might try a nap, although those are usually counter productive for me.

It's a beautiful day here, sunny and clear blue skies with a forecast high of 78*. Tomorrow and Saturday will be similar but hotter. I'll try to go for a jog this afternoon.

I have quite a list of todos for today. I'll be happy when things quiet down again next week.

Next:

- s2s and self care

hi Paeches!
Bama, we're weather twins! Grey and rainy all day.
helia, yay for a good night's sleep! Everything is better when you are not sleep-deprived. I wonder if my life were better if I slept more than 5 hours per weeknight? Nay, gotta find an easier solution to my problems! :-)
How's your day going, kittykatt?

Home, finally. It's 6pm and I left right before 7am. I'm not going to be overly productive on home front, but I will try. But at least I got errands (pharmacy for DBD's epilepsy meds and dollar store for Halloween decorations) and weekly groceries done! And since I had totally meeting-less day at work, I made huge progress on something that's been stressing me out for a while now.

TaDas
- morning madness
- day at work
- errands
- pick up DBD at school
- grocery run

ToDos
- morning routine
- put away groceries
- homework time!

Thanks for the start-off trissie. I am learning about birds I have never heard of.
Helian, I am so sorry to hear that you had to clean the refrigerator as soo as you got htere! No tip for the cleaning lady! You have enough to do. I am sure your talk about your mom will go well. I imagine you think, How am I going to condense her life into those few minutes?
kittykatt, how is Matilda today?
Hi, Peaches
Bama, we will be ho t(80) and sunny today, good fro my new shingles!
trissie, you will be jealous: I think I was in bed for >12 hours last night. I could feel the definite lack of energy, so put my fitbit on the charger and lay down for "a little" and woke up before 11pm. Put the fitbit back on and slept until almost 830, then lounged in bed until a phone call at 10, to answer questions for a family caregiver study I have enrolled in. Finally got up around 11! I should have some energy today.

3 major things -
1 water my yard - that takes quite a qhile to do all the areas, and move a plant from mother's to my house
2 sweep and scrub floors (kitchen, bathroom, hall, and), unload, reload dw, any other housework I can fit in - wash sheet change bedding
3 reunion committee meeting at 7pm to evaluate the night

and of course talk to mother
pray for dsis3 who is giving a speech in Colorado this evening, that she will do well and be well received

and I did have 3-4 nights of <6 hours, plus even that interrptued, so I really was tired.
so far I have eaten banana bread slices I baked yesterday, with yummy glass of milk
had my coffee
swept some floors
emptied a box and brought it to the porch for contributions to Salvation Army when I discover them.

Next up get dressed and start watering
