Re: White Sands National Park Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
White Sands National Park is a national park of the United States located in New Mexico and completely surrounded by White Sands Missile Range. The park covers 145,762 acres (227.8 sq mi; 589.9 km2) in the Tularosa Basin, including the southern 41% of a 275 sq mi (710 km2) field of white sand dunes composed of gypsum crystals. This gypsum dunefield is the largest of its kind on Earth, with a depth of about 30 feet (9.1 m), dunes as tall as 60 feet (18 m), and about 4.5 billion short tons (4.1 billion metric tons) of gypsum sand.
Approximately 12,000 years ago, the land within the Tularosa Basin featured large lakes, streams, grasslands, and Ice Age mammals. As the climate warmed, rain and snowmelt dissolved gypsum from the surrounding mountains and carried it into the basin. Further warming and drying caused the lakes to evaporate and form selenite crystals. Strong winds then broke up crystals and transported them eastward. A similar process continues to produce gypsum sand today.
Thousands of species of animal inhabit the park, a large portion of which are invertebrates. Several animal species feature a white or off-white coloration. At least 45 species are endemic, living only in this park, with 40 of them being moth species. The Tularosa Basin has also seen a number of human inhabitants, from Paleo-Indians 12,000 years ago to modern farmers, ranchers, and miners.
White Sands National Park was originally designated White Sands National Monument on January 18, 1933, by President Herbert Hoover. Since 1941, the park has been completely surrounded by the military installations of White Sands Missile Range and Holloman Air Force Base. It was redesignated as a national park by Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump on December 20, 2019. It is the most visited NPS site in New Mexico, with about 600,000 visitors each year. The park features a drive from the visitor center to the heart of the dunes, picnic areas, backcountry campground in the dunefield, marked hiking trails, and sledding on the dunes. Ranger-guided orientation and nature walks occur at various times and months throughout the year.

Re: White Sands National Park Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for another interesting start!
I need to get moving, as the butcher will be delivering this morning, possibly as early as 8 am, so I need to be up, showered and dressed ready to receive her!
Other "must dos" for today:
Set up prepayment for prescriptions
Cancel car insurance with old company
And I think there's something else too!

Re: White Sands National Park Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
It's the start of October, and I do dread winter with the dark days, the cold and the wet, but I had a very uplifting quote in my timeline this morning that I thought I would share. I particularly liked the part about getting "good work" done!
“I can face the winter with calm. Crisp and sparkling days, long pleasant evenings, cheery fires. Good work shall be done this winter. Life shall be lived well. The end of the summer is not the end of the world. Here’s to October.” ~A.A.Milne

Re: White Sands National Park Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
I have not been to that park, trissie, although my dgirls have. Friends E and C have a summer house in NM not too far from it. I replied to your questions about disinheritance last night.
That's a great quote, Kitty! There are lots of pleasant things in winter here. The snow is pretty, the sharp cold air is invigorating, our nightly fires in the fireplace are very cozy. The first snow of winter is exciting. It's the winter weather in March that starts to become depressing to me. You're getting your Christmas meat early! I suppose you will freeze it.
Today, I'll prep for class, be at payroll until 1 pm, have a small bit of lunch, go work out with AS 2-3, do a Kroger order for those groceries, make progress on laundry, and hopefully make more progress on payroll exam prep. Those are the main things. I also need to check in with the charity to see when they're expecting to pick up the dresser; if it is weeks out, then we will do something else as it is sitting outside our house right now.
Next:
- payroll: figure out one-on-one writing conferences with each student
- payroll: slides for today
- back exercises
Later:
- s2s and self care
- make the bed

Re: White Sands National Park Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Morning all. Wow is that your Christmas meat kittykat? I have to figure out our Christmas this year. Plan is to be at dd and dsil place this time. And dh dad's. I'll still decorate here anyway just cause I like to. But we're going to have to figure out a gathering here early maybe.
I don't mind winter. Long as it's not super cold for too long. Average winter temperatures and fresh snow can be beautiful. Just not ice. And not -30 or lower
I wonder what is going to happen today. We've had a few rough patches with mom lately. Monday being one and dad is getting very tired. He's doing stuff no husband in his70s should have to do. But he does it. We have had such a hard time suggesting help cause he thinks we're trying to take mom away from him. He worries she's going to die suddenly when she is really bad. My sister set up a visit again with the person who does assessment and in charge of home care. We just didn't know how to tell him so hopefully now we can see what he thinks she has time this afternoon. Or shift it a bit if he's not up to it yet. But we really need to get him some help.
We finished his firewood yesterday and spent quite a bit of time there. So unless I am needed if she goes out I am claiming my day. My garden. Kale. I should make carrot cake with the baby carrots. Figure out how to dry dill. And such. And some details in the house. Ds has school today. Feels like a weird day cause yesterday felt like Saturday.
Priority list
Basic routines
Kitchen clean
Some details
General straighten
Paint shelving
Blanch kale
Figure out how to dry some herbs
Get pet food for cats
Look on Amazon for supplies for mom
Find rugby stuff for ds
Shower
S&s both baths and reboot laundry
Clean cat boxes and take garbage out send out with dh
Tidy laundry room and master bedroom some
Empty and reload dw
Finish tidying kitchen
School run

Re: White Sands National Park Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
hi Peaches!
lauralind, is DD and DSiL's place big enough for all for Christmas?
what's DD's plan for tonight, L.Ann?
helia, I am glad you are legally protected from your estranged brother! Drugs are not fun
kittykatt, I actually like fall. A cup of something nice, a warm blanket and a good book and I am all set!
Home for... well the next three minutes
then I am off again to take DBD to her scout session. So much to do, so little time
TaDas
- morning madness
- day at work
- library
- pick up DS14's new prescription
- pick up DBD at school
- help her assemble her scout stuff
ToDos
- drive her to scout session
- morning routine
- clean kitchen
