Re: Fray Jorge National Park @ TDD - C&C
Bosque de Fray Jorge national park or Bosque Fray Jorge national park (Spanish Parque Nacional Bosque Fray Jorge) lies in the Limarí Province, Coquimbo Region, Chile. It is a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Management of this and other national parks in Chile is entrusted to Corporacion Nacional Forestal, CONAF.
The national park lies approximately 100 km south of La Serena on the Pacific Ocean, as well as approximately 30 km to the west of Ovalle. It lies close to the Atacama Desert, in the Cordillera de Talinay, which is part of the Chilean Coastal Range. On the south, the park is bordered by the Limarí River, whose lower reaches have been designated as a protected Ramsar site since 2020.
The park covers an area of 100 km², but the forests cover only 4% of its surface. The national park is known for having the northernmost Valdivian temperate rain forests. The coastal fog (Spanish: Camanchaca) hangs on the mountain-slopes and moistens subtropical vegetation, allowing the hydrophilic forests to survive despite being surrounded by semiarid scrublands, with average annual rainfall of approximately 113 mm. The forest is a vestigial survival of the last glacial period. However, recent genetic research based on metazoans, suggests that the Fray Jorge Forest is a relic of the forests that occupied this landscape during the Paleogene / Neogene, which retracted due to the aridification of the region, with an approximate age of divergence with the southern forests of over 20 million years.
Typical plants of the national park include:
Schinus latifolia
Azara celastrina
Lithraea venenosa
Porlieria chilensis
Olivillo (Aextoxicon punctatum)
Epiphytes include Sarmienta scandens and Griselinia scandens.
The park also includes a large number of smaller animals, as common degu, chinchilla and foxes. Many different kinds of birds live in the park, such as the Chilean tinamou (Nothoprocta perdicaria) and the long-tailed meadowlark (Sturnella loyca).

Re: Fray Jorge National Park @ TDD - C&C
Thanks God it's Friday has never been so true!
I didn't get groceries yesterday, so that's on the list for today, as well as mopping downstairs. I also have some work-related deadlines, and DH is going to a birthday party in the evening, so it's gonna be just me and the kids. Maybe there will even be time for me to watch a movie in the evening? Wishful thinking, I am afraid, but one can hope!
It's also elections weekend (parliament), so I have to go vote, but that can be done today or tomorrow.

Re: Fray Jorge National Park @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for another interesting start. I hope you have a productive and not too stressful day! DH is away visiting his DBro this weekend, so I'm hoping to take advantage of his absence and do a bit more decluttering and deep cleaning. I would really like to finish the sitting room if at all possible, so I can tick that off my list and feel I'm a tiny step nearer to Christmas. (Of course I'll still have to do maintenance cleaning on there, but the "big" jobs will be done.)
I never made it back yesterday, as I had a long session in my garden getting as much done before the rain came. Then it was Waitrose, then DH rang , then I fed everyone, sent a couple of emails and chatted to a friend who thinks she's been approached by a scammer. Ive been through all this with another DF, and the details were surprisingly similar.
My advice was to stop all communication, not to give him any more money ( fortunately she hasn't given him much so far!) and to block him!
I'm currently waiting outside Boots for my flu jab. I'm beginning to think booking a time of 8 am was a mistake! It would have been nice to have been let in and offered a chair, but no. At least it's not raining!

Re: Fray Jorge National Park @ TDD - C&C
Back home again and enjoying a late breakfast. Flu jab was uneventful, when I finally managed to get inside. Afterwards I took advantage of my free parking and walked to M& S Foodhall to see if their tins of Christmas chocolates were back in stock, and managed to score three (one for us to have at home, one for the all the staff at the vet and one for my hairdresser and all her staff ). Traditionally I (and many other people) have bought tins of Quality Street at Christmas time. However, over the years, the tins have got smaller and the price increased. Then it changed to a plastic tub rather than a metal tin. The final straw was last year, when they changed again to a paper tub, the wrappers were also changed from being exciting and shiny to extremely boring , and they took away a lot of the traditional favourites and replaced them with (nastier) alternatives using inferior ingredients. So, really downgrading a traditional Christmas classic.
This year the tub has got even smaller again, and the price has risen.
M&S evidently saw a gap in the market, and have produced a large (1.2kg) proper tin (made of metal) with an attractive design and a good variety of chocolates wrapped in pretty wrappers. M&S produce nice chocolate for everyday, so I've taken a chance on these tins. They've had good reviews on the papers, and according to the checkout assistant, they are "flying off the shelves", so I'm optimistic. Now I have to find a hiding place and remember where I've put them!
Freddie has had a long walk to make up for not going out earlier. Much of the walk was spent with him sitting and sniffing the air. That's cars for you!
It still isn't actually raining, (yet!)but it looks as though it will start soon, so my aim for outdoors today is to prune my Peace rose and to feed my pot in the front garden. Then I'll turn my attention to indoors.

Pull cabinet away from wall,. brush wall and spot clean, wipe skirting board and hoover
Polish cabinet and wipe out inside
Put cabinet back in place
Go through contents amd out back those I want to keep

Polish wooden cats on top of china display cabinet
Take "pretties" out of cabinet and carefully wash
While they are airing decide if I want to swap some over with some in storage to change the display
Polish outside of cabinet, dust inside and clean the glass
Put "pretties" back inside
Put cushion covers back on scatter cushions
Put chair backs and arm covers back on my chair

Re: Fray Jorge National Park @ TDD - C&C
WTG on obtaining Christmas goodies, Kitty. I need to get my flu shot too. I believe I can't get a covid shot.
Enjoy your walk, L Ann.
Glad you have a work from home day, trissie. I feel the same - TGIF.
I made progress on my long list yesterday - but certainly didn't complete it. I did go for a jog, bought cards and small gifts for J12yo, wrapped a gift and wrote her card and took to to the Cs' house, wrote a thank you card and took the chocolates to the nursing home. I did not find the quilt, but the director of the memory care floor was out. I will email her today about it. The lady at the desk said the package arrived, and she signed for it on Sep. 11. Mom was unresponsive by that time. I made a grocery order and washed and dried 1 lol. I made a nice meal and made progress on the AR Exam. I also had a lot of communications re: payroll.
I'm not sure I'll be able to revisit the things I didn't complete yesterday. I'll be out to payroll and then a haircut in another town from 10:45 - 4-ish. Before that, I need to do more payroll - finish the AR exam and prep for class. I think I am not giving the exit exam at 4 pm, which means I have about an hour at home before I need to be out again. Maybe I'll go for a walk. I'm dogsitting Fable - 5:30 - 6:30. Then, dh and I are going out on our weekly dinner date. Leaving at 6:30 is late enough that the restaurants will be busy so not sure yet where we'll go.
Main Goals for Today
1. Exam Prep Progress - AR Exam sent out; ideally, IR exam sent out as well
2. Prep for class
3. 11-1 teach IW D11
4. 2-3 haircut in other town
5. Walk
6. 5:30 - 6:30 dogsitting Fable
7. Dinner date with dh
8. Email re: the quilt friends made for my mom
Next:
- payroll: finish AR Exam and send it off for review
- payroll: prep for IW D11
- back exercises
Later:
- s2s and self care
- squeegee and wipe down shower
- some qt
- reclaim kitchen
- make the bed
- make a lunch
- 10:45 gather everything and otd
- 11-1 payroll: teach IW D11
- eat lunch
- 1:30 leave to drive to haircut
- 2-3-ish haircut appointment; drive home 30 minutes
- go for a walk
- can I get the IR Exam draft finished and out for review?
- email NH re: quilt
- email charity re: dresser being put on a free for pick up website
- lights: fold and p/a

You made a lot of solid progress yesterday, helia! Enjoy the haircut! I love the massage you get when they are washing your hair
looks like you will have some time to yourself today, L.Ann, with DD's dance!
I'll have to check out the M&S Christmas chocolates! Sounds like a nice Christmas teacher gift.
Done with work. I promised DBD I'd play a game with her, so that will be my rest, and then I am off to make this house a nicer place!

Re: Fray Jorge National Park @ TDD - C&C
Good morning/ good afternoon, L.Ann, Helia and Trissie!
L Ann, is this the dance that you were altering the dress for DD32?
Helia, you got lots done yesterday! Enjoy your hair appointment. I don't get the COVID jab this year either.
Trissie, M&S have a huge assortment of Christmas goodies this year. I like to go for i individually wrapped chocolates these days if it's going to be a "size for sharing" box, because... fingers!
I've pruned the rose and fed the pot and that's about it. Although I did send.tje churchwarden a list of the people who attended yesterday's service, and the number who took communion, and those who, afaik, also attend on Sunday mornings. (It's to do with the annual church census and record keeping. I've also agreed to do this for the rest of the Thursday services this month.) I've spent some time with Jude and Matilda. I've also added some more Christmas goodies to my next Waitrose order, as DH will be away , so he won't see any of the stocking fillers I order!
Next I think it needs to be lunch, and then I'll put a wash on and make a start on that cabinet. It's wet and windy now, so no outdoor distractions!
