Snowdonia, or Eryri, is a mountainous region and national park in North Wales. It contains all 15 mountains in Wales over 3000 feet high, including the country's highest, Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), which is 1,085 metres (3,560 ft) tall. These peaks are all part of the Snowdon, Glyderau, and Carneddau ranges in the north of the region. The lower Moelwynion and Moel Hebog ranges lie immediately to the south.
The national park has an area of 823 square miles (2,130 km2) (the fourth-largest in the UK), and covers most of central and southern Gwynedd and the western part of Conwy County Borough. This is much larger than the area traditionally considered Snowdonia, and in addition to the five ranges above includes the Rhinogydd, Cadair Idris, and Aran ranges and the Dyfi Hills. It also includes most of the coast between Porthmadog and Aberdyfi. The park was the first of the three national parks of Wales to be designated, in October 1951, and the third in the UK after the Peak District and Lake District, which were established in April and May 1951 respectively. The park received 3.89 million visitors in 2015.
Snowdonia is one of the wettest parts of the United Kingdom; Crib Goch in Snowdonia is the wettest spot in the United Kingdom, with an average rainfall of 4,473 millimetres (176.1 in) a year over the 30-year period prior to the mid-2000s. (There is a rainfall gauge at 713 metres (2,339 feet) on the slopes below Crib Goch.)
Mammals in the park include otters, polecats, feral goats, and pine martens. Birds include raven, red-billed chough, peregrine, osprey, merlin and the red kite. The rainbow-coloured Snowdon beetle (Chrysolina cerealis) is only found in northern Snowdonia.

Thanks for another beautiful and very interesting National park. We've been all over the world this week!
I spent 4 hours with Mother. There was a nice supper tray there for her - a grilled cheese sandwich, which she didn't want so I ate
and a lovely bowl of squash (or carrot?) soup, either way it was delicious and she ate almost all of it. Truth be told, I fed it to her with lots of encouragement. She was tired. I had brought a piece of chocolate silk pie, which I fed to her as well, and she drank most of a cup of coffee with that. I don't think she had much liquid during the day, because it is unusual for her to be thirsty and take almost a liter of liquids while I was there. But I am going to focus on the good thing that there was food there for me to give her when I arrived.Lots to do on Saturday:
Get flowers for church at florist
Bring them to the lady who will bring them to church
Visit mother for lunch
Zoom meeting 1-330
Get ready for supper with MrVKM
Back to see mother briefly again
meet him at restaurant,
then we go to a play
and I return to check on mother before I go to bed.
Somewhere I need to water because it's going to be really hot

gma, that sounds like your mom's appetite is returning? That's a good sign!
DS14's weekend scout trip was changed to one day trip (it was an outdoor sleepover Fri-Sun and probably too many kids had too much homework, DS being one of them - we did plan on driving him there this morning so he'd have Friday night to get started on homework, but even the leader decided it was not worth it). However, they are meeting at 8am, which is kinda cruel for a Saturday morning, but I guess we'll all sleep in tomorrow!
(DH was at a birthday party and didn't come home till 1:30 and I could not fall asleep without him so I tossed and turned till 1am, so I got about 5.5 hours, which is not good after a week of 4.5 to 5.5 hours per night).
Grandma is doing better. Now there's even talk of her going home next week? I don't understand it, but then again I have been out of the information loop till last week, so maybe that's something that was already in the works before she temporarily worsened on Thursday.
It's cold, but sunny outside right now - hoping it will hold, I'd like to get some things done in the garden, and there's still a basket of fallen apples (the last one!) to deal with. And we need to start harvesting grapes and sea buckthorn berries. And meddlars, but that's not till November!

Thank you for the start, Trissie. I'm glad your grandmother is is doing better. Sorry about the short night and all the changes to the scout trip. An 8am start on a Saturday morning on is definitely not very considerate!!
I've never been to Snowdon, but some friends have, and they went as a family group some years ago: Mum and Dad, Grandma, Grandad and the 2 kids. Their then 16 yo DS was going through what we used to call the "Kevins" (after a character on The Harry Enfield show which depicted a fairly obnoxious teenage boy who spoke in grunts and whose I my words were "it's so unfair" and "I hate you!" He had complained the whole way, and when they stopped to visit somewhere en route , and was being especially objectionable in the café at the foot of Snowdon, hunched over his phone ( or possibly his game boy) and refusing to join in. Snowdon has a little rack and pinion railway they you can take to get to the top (instead of climbing your way up!) Everyone else, including his younger sister , was thrilled by the idea except for him. So, ... they left him at the café while everyone else had a lovely time, taking the little train up (and back down again!) and exploring the visitor centre.. And collected the monosyllabic son on their return. DF P later confided to me that it was the only thing she could think of, as by that time she couldn't face the thought of his complaining all the way up and down, and she really didn't want him spoiling the whole trip for everyone else. Fortunately, the son has now turned out to be a charming young man, now in his early 20s with a good job and a lovely GF!

This morning is wet and windy, so it looks like another indoor day for me. My aim is to do Ian decluttering and deep cleaning the sitting room, and to get everything back in place. The kitchen needs a good tidy and I need to catch up on laundry, which I didn't do yesterday
(Actually this time my laziness is a Goof Thing,, as the energy company emailed yesterday to say we have 2 hours of free electricity this afternoon! So then would be a good time to use the washing machine and the hoover.) It would also be good to get that group email sent out, and print a hard copy of the menu for DF E to make her choices tomorrow.

how come you're getting free electricity, kittykatt?
It's taken me two hours, but the basket of fallen apples, and another one that DH brought it, have been turned into 7 large jars of tightly packed shredded apples which are now in the canner. I foresee a lot of apple struedels this winter with so many jars of ready shredded apples! I still have a smallish basket of "not fallen but not perfect enough for long term storage" apples, which will become dried apples. Luckily, it takes me only about 15 minutes to get one batch going, so after that I can finally clean the kitchen and not have apple juice everywhere

trissie I admire your dedication to process all those apples. And I envy your future you during the winter and spring, being able to enjoy those cans and jars knowing they are coming from your own production and free from harmful stuff (I suppose) and delicious.
We're back, MrNG has prepared lunch while we were away. Now DS7 is playing in his bedroom and DS9 is looking online for ways to cook the chestnuts he found while running with his class in the woods near the stadium. We may go and forage more chestnuts in the afternoon.
I just typed the list of various house chores I want to get done, and asked ChatGPT to make me a list with two 5-mn breaks, and he says starting at 2pm I will be finished by 4.35pm. I may use his cleaning plan as motivation... and probably he underestimated the time it takes in my house to complete some of the tasks...

We're back, MrNG has prepared lunch while we were away. Now DS7 is playing in his bedroom and DS9 is looking online for ways to cook the chestnuts he found while running with his class in the woods near the stadium. We may go and forage more chestnuts in the afternoon.
I just typed the list of various house chores I want to get done, and asked ChatGPT to make me a list with two 5-mn breaks, and he says starting at 2pm I will be finished by 4.35pm. I may use his cleaning plan as motivation... and probably he underestimated the time it takes in my house to complete some of the tasks...

Good morning, (it's still just morning here! ) FFB and Trissie!
That sounds a very nice morning, FFB.y observations are that *most* boys seem to come out of that awkward teenage phase sooner or later. Again, purely from observation, parental input is important, with boundaries, expectations etc. And , if course, some parents are very fortunate, and their offspring continue to be (mostly) polite, thoughtful and kind throughout the teenage years!
WTG with the apples, Trissie, -that is a lot! You've reminded me I need to process some today as well. We're getting free electricity as our energy company is very "green" and gets most of its electricity from renewables. as it's very windy today the wind turbines are over producing. Rather than turn them off (which is wasteful and also costs money) they just give their customers 2 hours free! ( I suspect there's a lot of politics in this as well, but I'm just happy to have the two hours.
