The Power of Doing Little Things Sunday PWYC

Post by Harriet »

Here is wisdom blessed brought for a Sunday topic earlier this year:
Little routines keep us moving forward
little exercises keep us flexible
taking time to read a little, learn something new keeps our brain engaged.
starting with a first stitch can lead to an outfit being made or a quilt being finished.
one stroke of paint lead to beautiful artwork.

We don't need to do a big project - big projects are just a series of little steps.

How about today - how can you keep things simple and joyful without pressing yourself to "do it all"

Making small steps forward leads to big adventures -

Thank you for starting us off today Harriet.

My day started too early. Dh's phone rang and it was in the bedroom. He wasn't in the room. He refuses to keep his phone within reach...

Any way... it was the hospital calling. They said I have a bladder infection and they would be sending a prescription to my pharmacy. Sigh. At least I should be feeling better in a few days.

I have gotten the cranberries simmering for the cranberry sauce. We are doing our Thanksgiving meal tonight.

I'm sorry you were awakened early, Cathy. At least you're getting a script for this now instead of letting it go longer, and impeding your recovery and health.

I got up late this morning when dh arrived back home with ds after a 3 mile walk. I threw on clothes - even before coffee, lol - and went out to breakfast with them. When I arrived back, ddog still needed her walk, so I'm really getting here late today, and late just getting my head together too. i feel like today will be some kind of weird short day.

Follow up to lobster discussion: I did not grow up eating lobster, and frankly, I feel that it's a lot like eating ribs or chicken wings - too much work and dirty fingers for the payoff. But I let dh do some of the work opening the thing up and I ate. Later dh built a fire outside and we invited neighbors over for a very pleasurable evening. Dfriends M and D from down the street brought R uby over too and the two dogs were happy to be with us visiting. No territorial behavior from Milly, even when R uby came into the house. R uby remembers getting treats here when we had a dog that would share, but I didn't get the treats out. No treats of contention here. The fire was lovely, neighbors K and D came as well. Good conversation, pretty fire, nice evening. Not too cool, not too warm.

Nothing on the calendar for today for me. Dh has gone out to pick up a redrilled bowling ball, and he may go to Costco also. He would be bored if he didn't figure out something to do. He did watch the FL State football game (sadly) and we watched off and on the TN game. Had it going on screened porch even once outside for the fire, but only loud enough to hear a bit of crowd roar when something good happened. Heard Lucylee's game did not go well last night. :( Lucylee, thinking about your dgs, he needs to be a statistician for his HS team. He's great with detail and I bet good with numbers and stats....

I got stung, on my thumb, by a yellow jacket -geesh it was super painful.
I normally don't feel stings but it sure hit my nerve endings in my hand. Painful!
I took Benadryl and. Tylenol an hour ago and it is still hurtful.

ran to hardware store.

gentleman came to do my christmas lights - I could not hire a professional company bc, wow, it is a lot of money.

The prescription they gave me for this is amoxicillin... every 8 hours for 7 days.

Thankful for good doctors and pharmacists.

Dishwasher is finished. I have emptied dryer and washing machine is doing a load.

Cats have had their weekly catnip treat.

Later...

Did a couple of pots/pans. Shredded the cheese for scalloped potatoes. Put away 2 pieces of clean laundry. Cut up most of the green peppers and when the bag is full, the rest might not get cut up. I started with the largest pepper and now the smaller ones are getting smaller and smaller as I go.

I am saying yes to small actions and repeat them often.

not much happening here other than normal doings. Keeping DH and the teens monitored and feed seems to take up the majority of my time.
When i went to bed last night I had several ready-to-eat food selections in the refrigerator. I woke up to find it had all been eaten. So, I start again. Chicken alfredo pasta has been made and enjoyed. 4 large servings are available in the refrigerator now. I will be making a dessert later today as well as something with the hamburger meat that is currently thawing. And always processing vegetables harvested from garden. The okra is about done but the cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers are still each producing several a day.

LadyM, I'm still getting more of my little tomatoes than I can keep eaten. And zinnias are way taller than my head but the rust/mildew is getting to them.

I've been playing a little - I make so many cards and don't use many so I'm going to send three thank yous out, to rabbi, temple prez and friend who does planning for HHD. All men, so many of my flowers, bows, etc. don't work.

Also down some rabbit holes in genealogy. I'll head downstairs to make chili soon...

Ouch, ouch, ouch, blessed! :( My folks used to put baking soda on my stings. My uncle said tobacco was what was used longer ago. There are OTC specific sting topicals now.

So nice to hear you had a positive time with church friends, Nancy.

I've been taking very small steps crafting today. Thinking twice as much as doing, but that's necessary.

Have done myself the wonderful favor of decluttering and organizing all my pills. Made up a bag of unneeded prescriptions filled at hospital and will take them to pharmacy for disposal next time we are near. (Heavy duty nausea, vomiting, etc.) I am keeping the mild nausea one and the pain ones because sometimes a doctor will ask what you have at home for a new problem. But they are out of sight and away with OTC items in the bathroom closet. Some bottles thrown away when I could sensibly consolidate hospital ones with pharmacy ones of very close dates. (Did ya'll know hospitals won't allow you to take anything you bring from home, but must prescribe themselves?)

Anyway, now everything I take regularly, supplements, even the pill-cutter for Armour pill, will fit on one small lazy Susan in the cabinet with room to spare. This is a victory and a visual "shot in the arm" to mark getting over so much. I still must take the anti-viral for another several months, but then it will be gone, too. No one can seem to answer whether I'll ever be able to stop the big fat potassium tablets (yuck), but that is a supplement, not a pharmaceutical.
