Re: Amy Elizabeth Thorpe Thursday @ TDD - C&C
Amy Elizabeth Thorpe, also known as Betty Pack, Betty Thorpe, Elizabeth Pack, and Amy Brousse; (November 22, 1910 – December 1, 1963) was an Anglo-American spy, codenamed Cynthia, who worked for British Security Coordination (BSC) which was set up in New York City in 1940 during World War II by the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). She later worked for the American Office of Strategic Services (OSS). Her method was the sexual and romantic seduction of high-level foreign diplomats. She successfully obtained intelligence on the German Enigma machines and the Black Chamber in Poland, obtained the cipher books of fascist Italy, and stole the Vichy French naval codes out of a locked safe within an embassy. In an article published two months before her death she wrote: "in the dangerous years of Nazi aggression I looked upon myself as a soldier serving my country. No sacrifice was too great for the soldiers. I felt that, in my own way, I could do no less than they."
Her Time magazine obituary quoted William Stephenson, head of the BSC, saying that she was "the greatest unsung heroine of the war." The full story of her World War II activities cannot yet be known because some official archives as of 2016 were still "closed indefinitely" or "heavily redacted."

Re: Amy Elizabeth Thorpe Thursday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off.
Sleep well, Dogged!
L.Ann, I'm glad the surgery is going to be nearer home.
Helian, I think you're wise not to leave your bag or anything in the car. I always take anything of value or "attraction" with me, even if it means I attend church sometimes with a bag of Freddie's medication sitting beside me, if I e just collected if from the vet! ( One of his meds is a controlled drug, so I feel I need to be extra careful ).
Yesterday's big achievement was to finally finish pruning amd tying in the climbing rose.
I'm sitting in my car at church, having already hoovered it and polished the outside - the weather is perfect for this and it's nice and quiet so no interruptions! I need to get cleaned up now before the service.

Sleep well, Doggedly. Hope to see you soon.
Thanks for another female spy, trissie. I had no idea!
Enjoy the church service, Kitty. Are you having lunch or coffee with friends afterward?
Yesterday was not a great day in terms of healthy habits. I got home from work around 4 pm, as I knew I would. I was tired and hungry and feeling like my day was done, so I snacked. And snacked. And snacked. . . I did not get in my jog or do anything else -- and I ate way too much. I got into the peanut butter which is my personal Achilles heel.
I need to learn to manage myself better with the new schedule. SO grateful that today is a new day!
Today, I'd like to get caught up on some things, like some payroll handouts, memorial gift thank yous, and washing my mom's stuff. I'm meeting with my trainer at 2 pm, and S2 (marathon running friend) will be here in about 30 minutes. I think we're walking together, but maybe we'll get coffee? Not sure - S2 is kinda like that. You never know! LOL! Dh is back this evening, as is M, who has been away for 9 days visiting her parents. She's stereotypically Gen Z, and if she works a few 8 hour days, she needs a vacation.
She laughs about this herself too. To be fair, she was also working while in Florida; she mainly works remotely.
The day of the half marathon (Sunday) is super rainy - all day long. Dh says he's going to run anyway; it won't be that cold. I'll bring my raincoat and maybe an umbrella as well. 1.1 inches will fall Saturday evening - Sunday evening.
Next:

Later:
- walk with S2 -- or coffee?

Re: Amy Elizabeth Thorpe Thursday @ TDD - C&C
Thanks for the start, trissie. I wonder what is so special to be protected after she’s passed and the war was decades ago.
See you in a little bit, Doggedly.
Kittykatt, you’re on the ball. I haven’t touched my car and it shows. We lug everything from groceries to plants to pine straw to pets so it’s a mess.
Helia, are you going to cheer dh on from the sidelines? That’s sweet, and bonus points if it’s raining. Hope the rain holds off for the run. I hear you on the food/weight. I’m not even a snacker, stay within my range, but my weight is going up steadily, an ounce a day which adds up. Ugh.
LAnn, I hope dd feels better.
Dd1 is leaving today so we will do something together this morning, pick up groceries and dh’s rx on the way home, then send her on her way. We have had a very nice time together so it will be sad but my routines are lacking and could use some attention.

Enjoy your time with dd1 this morning, Bama. I will cheer dh from the sidelines. Fortunately, we have a hotel that is right on the route -- and not far from the start and the finish lines. I should be able to pop outside, walk a few paces to the corner, and cheer on dh as he runs past. Then, I can return to the hotel and do it all again about 20? minutes later as he loops back and runs by the hotel a second time on the other side of the road. At that point, he'll be a few blocks from the finish line. Love this hotel! It's also a very nice one, a bit pricey but worth it.
I hope DD32 feels better by tomorrow for her Halloween party, L Ann.
S2 and I walked for so long, that I don't think I'll jog today. I'm also meeting with the trainer this afternoon, so more exercise is coming anyway.

Re: Amy Elizabeth Thorpe Thursday @ TDD - C&C
Hello, all! I am up and past my morning creakiness. I think that Germane scared that right out of me. She wandered out of the bathroom while I thought that she was safely sleeping, so wasn't watching where I walked. The next thing, I was shrieking, we were both dancing around confused, and everywhere I moved my shins connected with a soft body. Luckily for Germane, my dance is more a shuffle than a high kick, so no harm was done. She is safely sleeping on her fleecy in the bathroom and I am caffeinating myself.
Woo hoo for clean car and pruned rose, Kittykatt.
As Anne Of Green Gables says, helia, "Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet." You do so well normally, I can't imagine that one Cheat Day will do you harm.
Poor DD32, L.Ann. I hope that she feels better soon.
Hi, Bama. My guess would be something that would be embarrassing to someone high up in government or aristocracy. We already know that the late queen's uncle was Nazi sympathizer, even visiting Hitler, and that Prince Harry thought it harmless to show up at a Hallowe'en party in a Nazi uniform.
If you put on a little weight every year, it will fill out your wrinkles and you will never look old.
helia, can you put an air tag on your dh so that you can time coming out of the hotel?
