It looks like I have vastly underestimated the toughness of kids re: movies, never having had any of my own, LOL. The LOTR movies were certainly well done and worth watching.

Checked balcony rack that is clipped to shelving unit. Not dry yet.

helia, I think I was about DS14's age when Mission Impossible came out! I remember going to the cinema with my mother. Actually her colleague worked on the movie, which was partially shot in Prague - she was the interpreter for the production team.
Dogged, that sounds like a really heartwarming show!
Frenchie, I visited the Opera Garnier this summer! I waited too long to book Louvre tickets and by then the earliest I could get was 12:30 - so I started the day at Arc de Triomph, walked the Avenue de Champs-Elysees, and then went to the Opera Garnier. When inside, I put on my earplugs and played Phantom of the Opera from my while watching the famous chandelier!

Whoa, that's really cool, trissie.
trissie, my kids were super sensitive, and I wouldn't let them watch LOTR movies until they were older. Dd27 now in particular was so sensitive to movies that she wouldn't even watch them at sleepovers, not even tame ones. I remember a friend of mine telling me how she took dd27 out on a long walk when it came to the movie time at her own dd's sleepover party. I think dd27 was 8 or 9. As a family, we went together to the cinema to see The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Dd27 was 8yo and didn't want to go. She finally agreed to go but brought a stack of books to read during the movie, her ipod so she could play her own music during the movie -- and also a couple of her own stuffed animal rabbits. I think dd30 now also brought some stuffed rabbits. I'm sure we looked like a strange family, but it worked. OTOH, ds read the Hobbit at age 7 and the LOTR books immediately after at ages 7-8. Not sure he got all the violent nuances. He read them for the second time at age 10 -- and then, he taught himself one of the elven languages as well. LOL!

We're at the hotel. Really nice! We walked to the expo center and dh picked up his packet. Next we're off to find dinner at a restaurant. I think dh found one that has fish tacos, a fave dish of ours!

Hello, everyone!

Helia, I hope you enjoy your dinner and a nice evening with DH. I think on the Polar Express here, each kid gets a little bell (from Santa's sleigh!) too. I also read the Hobbit when I was about 7 (my choice!) but then a couple of years later, my then English teacher (not the good one!) decided the class would read the Hobbit as a form exercise. I told her I'd already read it and she wouldn't believe me, so, having no tact at all in those days , I just reeled off the whole plot of the book to her. To say she was Not Amused was an understatement. I still don't know why she didn't just give me a copy of Lord of the Rings and tell me to get on with it! (I don't think I'd have been able to learn Elvish though! )

I'm sure you'll still enjoy the movie, Trissie, even though it's possibly not your "cup of tea".

Dogged, one terrifying, supposedly educational series I had to watch at school when I was small was "The boy from outer space" -part of the BBC "look and say" series. All in black and white (no colour TV in 1971!), featuring 2 kids, various adults and an invisible "force" which made the compass the boy was carrying spin. For some reason that spinning compass terrified me so much I was sent out to read on the book corner in the corridor until it was all over. I looked it up online recently to see if it still exists, and there are detailed descriptions, but not, AFAIK, any of the original episodes remaining. (Although I think they remade the series in the 1980s, this time in colour and that is available on DVD. I shan't be buying it, I don't want to take any chances! )

I had a good session in my front garden this afternoon, and pull out /trimmed back a lot of the ground cover, which tends to rake over if left unchecked. I probably could have left it a bit longer, but we're supposed to have rain for the next few days, and I wanted to get it done while everything was still dry. I've mulched area with bark - I *just* had enough, but I've ordered another sack, as everything is bound to "settle" in the next week or so.

DH had a wonderful time in the trains today. A lot of it went over my head, but he showed me some interesting photos. He is currently snoring in his chair, and I think I'll be going to bed myself soon!

The Curse of the Were-Rabbit: wasn't that a Wallace and Grommit movie, helia? They didn't intend it to be that scary, but we all have our own level of tolerance, LOL. I can't point fingers. I have no interest in horror movies.

Maybe they paired the compass effect with scary movie music, Kittykatt. I can picture a spinning compass being framed as sinister.
I'm glad that your dh had a good time on the train.

Spotted nice neighbour with nice dog. Asked him if he would like the extra bag of kibble.
Brought the bag of kibble to his apartment upon our return.

Fought with password managers and a web site. And browsers.Took them all on at once and won.
Having battled successfully on what I thought was going to be the quick and easy task, took on the big one. Wrestled with gmail, Facebook and my game, to get my profile transferred from the old, smaller tablet with the dying battery to the new Fire tablet that has the beautiful graphics. Overcame its resistance too.
Washed basin and sink.
Washed some dishes. Put more into soak.

Kitty, ds read Tolkien as his own choice as well. I was trying to keep him off Harry Potter bc at the time I thought it wasn't appropriate for a young child -- as if LOTR was. LOL! What was I thinking? Or not thinking? Actually, I just couldn't keep up with his reading and didn't always know what he was reading. The elven language was the very simple one. He was really into codes at that time, and it was like a code to him.
Yes, Doggedly, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit was a cute (I thought) Wallace and Gromit movie. Dh and I (and ds and dd30 now) found those very fun and entertaining. Dd27 -- not so much. Each kid definitely has their own personality.

Chilling in the hotel. Might watch an episode of Hudson and Rex and knit a few more rows.
