CAthy - WOW! Glad your DH was able to take care of the problem quickly.
My top must do's priorities for the day have been accomplished.
** DD14 hair is washed and is ready for school.
** Homeschool lessons are planned and individual assignments are on DS17 daily calendar.
** Food to keep the family from thinking they might starve.
While DD14 was enjoying her spa and hair treatment, I decided to check out a sale ad for $1.99 mums. I was amazed at how big they were—about knee-high and wider than I could reach with my arms. I’ve seen mums this size selling for $25 elsewhere. Before adding them to my cart, I went to the checkout to confirm the $1.99 price. Anyway, I ended up bringing six of them home. Now the dilemma is, where do I plant them? The raised beds are still packed with flowers and vegetables. These mums will stay green all year and put on a stunning flower display next fall. Hmm... I might need to build more raised beds—or maybe attend plant addict meetings.
DD49 sent freshly made tamales and some spaghetti home with us. The teens quickly made them disappear.

I have to ask Cathy, how your dh determined it was rabid? And if it was rabid, he shouldn't have touched it at all. If he did, it should be tested for rabies and your dh could requires shots, which much start before the testing results are available. I don't want to scare you - I follow a friend (member of a temple) who is the exec director of For Fox Sakes rescue here. This is what she posted recently about racoons:
Raccoons right now are going through many changes to prepare for winter. They’re becoming much more crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk) rather than strictly nocturnal and are developing a strong instinct to forage on high-fat foods and seek shelters. All these changes prepare them “Diet Hibernation,” known more scientifically as torpor.
Torpor differs from true hibernation by being much lighter and much less consistent. Animals in true hibernation sleep for weeks or months at a time and don’t need to eat or drink. Bears can even give birth during hibernation, barely waking up in the process!
Torpor is much less extreme. Raccoons in torpor become much more sluggish than in the warmer months and may spend nearly all their time sleeping, but they still need to eat and drink regularly. While raccoons in the coldest parts of their range may sleep for several days at a time during torpor, they never experience the dramatically slowed metabolism that true hibernators experience. During torpor, some raccoons come out only during the warmest parts of the day to forage for food and will particularly seek denser, richer foods than in the spring and summer. Torpor still accomplishes the same thing as hibernation, though: it enables animals to make it through the lean months with little food.
If you’re one of the many people who can relate to a raccoon’s desire to spend the winter sleeping and coming out only to eat junk food, that’s not a coincidence! We humans have a torpor instinct just like our wild neighbors. We tend to sleep more and gain weight during the winter, and many experts believe that torpor instinct is a major contributor to seasonal depression. These coming months are hard for most creatures, and we’re no exception!
Please be kind to your raccoon neighbors as they prepare for torpor in the coming weeks. Now is a great time to make sure that your attic and crawl space don’t have any entry-points for guests who might mistake it for a winter den. If you see raccoons foraging in the daytime and they appear otherwise healthy, there’s no need to panic and assume they have rabies. They’re just adjusting their habits with the seasons, as nature intended!

I enjoyed Churchill very much!
LadyM, mums, getting ready for the week, and food you don't have to cook! Sounds like a winning day to me. And it's your birthday week to boot!
I'm glad you got out to walk, Nancy, and I'm glad you're feeling better as the day progresses.
Love the smell of something good baking, bw2. Glad you have a helper today - are you pushing yourself too much to declutter too? You have a lot on your plate already, it's okay to give yourself some grace.
Lucy, think it was Rose who commented on the refs last night - I only stayed up until half time, I could see the writing on the wall so I went to read.
We're eating barbeque for our supper from the fundraiser yesterday. Disappointed that dh didn't get pulled pork for us but I'm having bbq brisket on a bun.
Where is Harriet? I know she was having a busy day on Friday but I don't think I've seen her since? (Update, I see she was here earlier today, just hasn't posted so perhaps she's having a wonderfully busy weekend with family.)

Dh saw that it's tail looked like it had been half chewed off, plus it had no fear of him walking towards it. Also had crusty/runny eyes and it was "foaming" around the mouth. Dh said it was more like saliva/drool and not foam. Dh has lived more in "country" settings than in "city" settings. He used to spend his summers in northern Ontario and hunted with his dad and uncles. He has known how to hunt/shoot since he was 8 years old. It also kind of meandered around our yard slowly before dh did what he did. We have contacted local humane society to let them know where it is buried and exactly what dh saw and what he did. A few years ago we had some racoons around our garbage bins and they took off running as soon as we opened the back door, This one didn't run at all. Dh and I actually saw this one in a neighbour's front yard yesterday and dh said it looked like it was in bad shape and we talked about it being out in the open in the middle of the day. Dh is 100% sure it was the same one. He didn't touch it with his bare hands.

I had dinner.
Not many dishes they will wait till morning.
Watching The Deception of WWII interesting this is a diff. one that I've seen in the past.
Other shows I was going to watch were repeats.
Some clouds so no sky viewing tonight.

Sorry, Twins. I just keep mixing up who I’m replying to!
Rose — see what you think.
I am watching Edward Scissorhands on tv. I love that movie.
Oh — now I can’t find my Bible! I know I had it in church this morning and I certainly thought I put it in the car before we ate, but maybe I left it at church. I am just crazy lately.

I hope you find your Bible, LucyLee!
Twins, that was very interesting to read about "torpor" - it explains a lot! And also reassure me that I'm not being "lazy" because I have no energy over the winter months, it's a natural reaction nthe the shortening hours of daylight. I use my light box every morning, and don't keep junk food in the house, apart from some very good quality chocolate, where really a couple of squares is sufficient. (DH sneaks in his own personal supply of biscuits, crisps etc, as I find the wrappers in the office, but that's up to him.
) And, Trissie reminded me in her post this morning, that there's only 2 months to go until the days start getting longer again.
