One-Minute Monday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

from James Clear:

“Two is better than one,
But one is infinitely better than zero.”

For example, one minute of exercise is better than zero, one minute of housework is better than zero,
one minute of gardening is better than zero.
Quoting One-Minute Monday from 13 Oct 2024, quoting Lucylee from 13 October...

Spend that one minute where it's needed today, and throw in the extra minute(s) for fun!

I attempted the 1 min. balance exercise not as good as yesterday some is better than none.
I need to say how much having a plan the nite before helped me today!
Got out of bed with focus!
Late nite I had a fire in the microwave some pumpkin ~
got to it in time checked the machine it is good.
House smells a bit like burnt popcorn but not as bad.
I've got fans going and it's a lot better today.

Did up the dishes.
Took out the trash.
Took out the laundry.
Started the duds washer twins are going.

Last week worked so well when I did all the chores early in the week I"LL be trying to do that again today.
Plus it needs it after Sun. kitchen adventures.

Journal & planning mostly done.
Cold sore was better when I first got up now a bit more painful not fun.

Pressed a seam and trimmed off some sewing project I found down stairs.
Finished my blue prayer shawl last nite so that was a success.

Had my bfast.
Did a 5 min. pick up in my bedroom after making my bed this a.m. for a win.

We've walked.

Good morning

I embrace the practice of being Queen of One-Minute Effort. I simplify tasks and lower the bar on almost everything to avoid resisting them. Once I get started on each card, then they seem to happen without much extra effort. Remembering Dee tell us that Start is half done.

So far, I’ve completed 63 cards today and will probably end the day with around 130. The reason I have so many cards is that they’re so simplified I don’t resist doing them. While many of the cards take more than a minute, my brain is now conditioned to think they’re all quick and easy. Plus, I get a little reward each time I finish one, giving me a sense of satisfaction and a nice hit of natural dopamine.

We have a 3 day school week because of the holiday tomorrow. Trash pickup has been moved to Wednesday instead of tomorrow.

After school I will take DD14 to get blood work needed for autism concerns then she has appt with her trusted counselor. This is the first appt since receiving the official autism evaluation and recommendations. The 3 types of therapy being recommended will be discussed and hopefully can be provided by trusted counselor.

After those two appointments, we'll shift our attention to catapult construction. DD14 is just 48 hours away from the deadline. I really dislike driving at night in the city and on the interstate, but I don't see any other option.
Stay curious. Challenge assumptions. Success loves persistence.
When life gets difficult, learn to sing & dance in the rain.

Everyone off doing their one and two minutes?

I'll be taking dd to shuttle a little before two today, and going on to my workout. Possibly getting there a little late but we'll see. Other dhouseguest I believe is packing up. I need a shower but should wait to say goodbye to him probably.

Quiet day otherwise. I realized earlier that the Knox Co archives will be closed tomorrow for veteran's day so need to rethink. We are having dinner with friends on Wednesday evening, and then I have my workout again on Thursday. So might either squeeze in workout on Wednesday so I could go on Thursday, or maybe go on Friday.

Well this has been sitting here for hours.

Update. dhouseguest has left and dd has gone out to see dfriend whose sister was married last night. DD will be back here around 1:15ish and we'll head out. I need to be dressed for workout by then. I s2s-ed (more on that) and am finally having my brunch - only the omelet. I don't want to eat too heavily before workout later.

It is 33 degrees here "feels like 22" and I am cold! And we're having snow flurries, believe it or not! The shower wasn't hot, wasn't lukewarm but not freezing cold either. I was able to get cleaned up at least. The water seems to be hot coming out in other places and that's the shower that freezes occasionally. It's on the north wall of the house and I bet anything the pipes are in the wall. I have it dripping in there. Reported to dh.

Cold when we went out to get some errands done, but it was sunny and the wind was mostly the culprit. Interestingly the sun had warmed the car seats, lol, even though it was early. We decided to get things done even if we didn't have a very long list, since this is just the beginning of a cold snap.

Got a compliment on my houseplants yesterday, as dsonil was very interested in their start on blooming, plus they really do look happy with the new sunbeam angle.

Working on the neatness of the house starts with neatening the sewing room, which starts with getting the current project done and out of the way.

Then I think I want to move furniture around in that space. A rethink of how space is used may benefit and extend even further.

we were all disappointed that the snow didn't really fall here. dd older was hoping that Chicago would be practically shut down considering that they closed the schools for today.

it was a mom morning more than a get to work morning and keeping her spoken and tried to do things with her - fold laundry, read a book, do some Alsatian and French, read a story in yankee magazine about Jacques Pepin. I know mom would have fallen asleep earlier if I hadn't worked with her.

this morning I spoke to helper about her weekend - dd younger took 2 dogs out to play - her dog needs to rest - he is not happy which makes dd younger worry. I made breakfast for them. dh is doing dishes which is nice of him.

Everyone is cranky here but I feel very happy - the sun is out - we had snow a little - I got the christmas stuff ready to put up etc.

Hey, folks! Are people sleeping in this morning, or what? I did not get to sleep in this morning, because we needed to take my car to the shop, so we could get last week's brake issue fixed. Well, if I hadn't had the brake trouble, I might never have learned to drive DH's car, so that's a positive. And today's positive is that it was fixed quickly -- and for free! The cause of the leak was one of the parts of the brakes our mechanic installed a couple of months ago, so it was still under warranty. But DD has arranged a ride to work, and I don't want to bother Dfriend K, who works from home, while she is working, so I will wait to pick the car up until DH can take me there.

Thanks for starting us, Twins, but then you disappeared! I hope you are relaxing from all your peopling this weekend.

And clearly Nancy is not sleeping in! (Though when do you ever?) What a whirlwind you are!

LadyM, I remember when you used to post your card totals and being utterly overwhelmed by them -- and here, you use them to keep from being overwhelmed!

It's my turn to report snow. Our area got some overnight -- the snow belt had 3 inches or more, but here by the lake, we just had a dusting, and that's melted now. We've had some flurries during the day, but none of them have stuck.

I need to work on redoing my cards today, but first (as ever!) there's laundry. I think if I get one more load of clothes done, I will be caught up enough that I can throw in rugs. Once those are done, I can clean the bathroom and put in fresh towels and rug. I think I will wait until the evening to do that, though -- I will want to change into something I don't mind getting bleach on. And there's a stack of dishes in the kitchen (since we went for Thai for DH's birthday, he didn't want to do our usual Sunday Chinese takeout).

**********
Oh, look! Folks have popped in since I started typing. Waving to blessed and Harriet!
