Weymouth Beach is a gently curving arc of sand in Weymouth Bay, beside the town of Weymouth in Dorset, England. Immediately adjacent to the beach is The Esplanade.

The beach is a popular destination for beachgoing and was frequented by King George III for sea bathing during times of illness. The king named Weymouth his 'first resort' and made bathing fashionable there. George III was advised to take the waters after his first bout of porphyria.

Weymouth Beach is very wide and gently sloping, with golden sand and shallow waters normally with small waves. In addition to bathing, the expansive beach is used for beach motocross and volleyball.

The beach has the traditional attractions of an English seaside resort, including (during the summer season) donkey rides, Punch and Judy, sand sculptures, trampolines, a small funfair for children, and pedalo hire.

At the southern end is Weymouth Pier, including the Pavilion Theatre and Weymouth Sea Life Tower. At the northeastern end is the suburb of Greenhill, with Furzy Cliff and Bowleaze Cove beyond that.

The beach was voted Number 1 in The Times and Sunday Times Best UK Beaches 2023.

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for a very nostalgic start! You've taken me back nearly 50 years when my family used to holiday in nearby Dorchester, with frequent trips to Weymouth. Memories include donkey rides, building sandcastles on the beach (the sand was perfect!), the "sand man" who built the most amazing sand sculptures (and who is still there - I think it's a grandson doing it now?), the best freshly caught fish and chips (Weymouth was still a working harbour in those days), fishing trips in a boat, cockles in vinegar, a funfair with a tradition carousel compete with fairground organ, narrow streets of small independent shops ranging from gift shops where I could add to my Dawn doll collection (similar to the Pippa dolls) and also traditional ships selling boots, nets and other fishing equipment, and, of course the King's Statue - a tribute to King George III, who frequented Weymouth for a "health cure" (mostly sea bathing ). The statue depicts him in his coronation robes, and associated regalia flanked by two pedestals, one with a golden lion, the other with a unicorn amd was erected in 1809, for the occasion of his golden Jubilee

Driving out of Weymouth is the Osmington white horse - a carving of George III on horseback in the hillside at Osmington, overlooking Weymouth bay. It is thought that this was carved in 1808. Of course, this was only visible in the daytime, bit one of my clearest memories is driving up the hill away from Weymouth after dark, and reaching the top of the hill, if you looked behind, there were all the orange neon lights of Weymouth. When you went over the brow of the hill, there below were the silver twinkling lights of Dorchester, which looked like fairyland! Happy memories!

It looks as though DH's retirement is growing slowly nearer. Yesterday he was asked to confirm in writing that he still soaked to be considered for voluntary redundancy. He should hear sometime.in December whether he's been successful for this round (there will also be subsequent rounds) and should get an estimate of his pension sometime in mid February of next year . I actually already have a very rough idea of what his pension will be, as the NHS has a very useful online pension calculator, but it will be useful to get more exact details. Realistically, through, I need to start budgeting now. Even if nothing comes if this round of redundancies, it will be a good exercise, and if he does get it, we'll be better prepared.

We had more rain overnight, and I think the forecast is for another wet day. ( I'm really hoping tomorrow is dry, or at least just very light rain, as I have errands to run them). So it should be a good opportunity to work on the house. Top of the list, kitchen cleaning and some more decluttering/ spring cleaning in the bedroom. It would also be good to tackle kitty nails (or could I move some of the nails to Friday, when I have a free day?) A walk would be good if the rain eases, and a little garden time, but it's good to be very soggy, so possibly too optimistic!

Thank you for another cheery start, trissie! I was so interested in Weymouth Beach that I went down a little bunny trail finding pics of it and that area of England. My dsil + dbil and 1 nephew and his young family live in Southampton which isn't terribly far from that beach.
Kitty, I googled the Osmington White Horse. So interesting! The landscape in that area is very pretty. I definitely need to visit that part of the UK some time. Are you going for kitty nails today?
Are the magnets Christmas gifts, L Ann? Enjoy the sunny day! I think we're going to get some sun here eventually.
Enjoy the morning, Bama!

Well, I set my alarm for 7. I turned it off bc I don't have anything pressing this morning. Next thing I knew, it was 8:46 a.m. :D I slept for about 9.5 hours last night. I guess I needed it after a couple restless nights. BUT that means I'm off to a very late start.

There's still snow on the ground in spots, but the high today is 46F.

Today and tomorrow are my low key days - even though I have payroll today. It's still comparatively low key! LOL! :D

Last night, dinner with MZ was good. We offered our home if she needs a safe comfortable place to stay. She lived with us for ~ 9 months many years ago because she felt staying with either parent (divorced) was not a healthy choice for her at that time. She is currently staying with her mom, and that is not an ideal place for her in her current mental state - but perhaps it is good enough. I graded all the practice exams turned in and answered some Qs posed by my Yemeni student who is very driven!

Today, I need to prep for class, and then I'm in the classroom 1:30 - 3:30. Dh and I are helping with Fable tonight. He'll pick her up en route home from work and she'll hang out with us for an hour or so this evening. Other things I'd like to do: exercise (walk and some low-impact cardio), pay 3 bills, get groceries for the rest of the week - Kroger order, make some phone calls, and tackle memorial thank yous.

Next:
- some qt
- payroll: slides for today -- not many bc of the exam
- payroll: print out the exam

Later:

Morning all. That will be a really big change kittykat bit it looks like you are doing really well being prepared. Did I read that right Freddie was better behaved yesterday at the vet?

Morning trissie and lann and Bama.

I need to find someone more advanced than me with crochet. There's got to be someone. I think I might be one stitch short right from the beginning of this project. I'm on row 7 now and have backed up a row and a half several times over. To make the one end work I have to take the inside of the last stitch like a chain space. And then somewhere near the other side I have to adjust where I put the first stitch after the peak. Sorry I am thinking out loud. We'll see how today goes if I am in the right brain space maybe I will start over? It still looks like it works but every row is driving me nuts 😒.

Today is going to be an interesting day. I wonder how I will come out of it. Let's see where do I start. Mom saw her dr again the other day. With dad and sister. He was thinking.. what is causing all the pain. Might something auto immune? Now that I think? Maybe arthritis? But he had some different name.. today she has full run blood work again. Then Monday my sister will go with them for full body CT scan. He can maybe do prednisone.. but yikes doesn't that also cause a whole mess of side effects?

Anyway today is cleaning in am. Then dad will bring her to the care home for a bit. I told him I would get her to the hospital for lab and then back and forth and home again. I don't have to stay anywhere except lab. Except it's just gonna break up my day oddly and I had plans for 300 visit with my sister friend. It all depends if the home wants her in and out like that.. find out when dad talks to them.

Other than that I need to pack my shoeboxes and figure out what else I need.. and my house needs attention. I have been doing some details. Scrubbed the sink in the laundry room and bleached it. Hand washing the floor and walls in my ensuite. Etc. But it's still clutter and mess and no basic whb and stuff i brought from dad's and too many shoes at the front door and so on and so on....

Priority list

Basic routines
Kitchen clean
Shoe boxes packed
Do I need to add anything
Mom to lab
Declutter main entrance
Floors

Today's tada list

Pack garbage for dh to take
Shower
S&s both baths and reboot laundry
Tidy laundry room and master bedroom some

Empty and reload dw
Tidy kitchen all the way
School run

Waving to all!

This week is beyond exhausting, both physically and mentally. And now it seems that DS may have a mild case of whopping caugh (he's sick and apparently one of the kids from his class has it, so if it quacks like a duck...), in the week when our primary doctors is on holidays. Also, the school asked us to chaperone DS on his two week school trip to England in May, otherwise he won't be able to attend. I'd like to exit stage left, if possible?
Of couse I am not going to do that, but sometimes it's just one bad news after another and the problems to solve don't even wait till I resolve one for another to appear.
But I am also hopelessly tired so first I will do a 10 minute power nap and hope it will do the trick

TaDas
- morning madness
- workday, don't know what I did but it took me all day
- many calls re who would see us re the whopping cough
- meeting at school
- talk with all kids
- DS on her way to scout session with another mom

ToDos
- 10 minute power nap
- morning routine
- gather recyclings in car
----
- pick up DS and othe kids at scout session
- clean kitchen
- homework with kids
