Holiday Launch Week Monday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

It's Monday of Thanksgiving week, the kick-off to the holiday season. We've been chatting about getting ready, preparation, and we're launching into the holidays this week!

Simple or complex, big celebrations or small, many gifts or few, we're here for the season....

I have a hair cut at ten and workout at two. Need a stop at CVS this afternoon on my way home from workout. In and out of the house today.

We ended up having dinner last night with dfriends A and V and the son and family who came in yesterday. The temple meeting went well in the afternoon too.

I'm getting into the shower now...I usually just shower and wash my hair before a haircut anyway. Dh is walking ddog...I need to get busy.

Hi Twins' Mom! Thank you for starting us off today! I came in and CUOP and left, trying to think of a good beginning to our week. While I was gone I dealt with bathroom and kitchen garbage and compost bin that lives on the island where I prep the veggies. Now I just have 3 cat litter boxes to clean at some point today and deal with last night's pots/pans.

The sun is shining right now, which certainly helps.

Last night dh and I had a talk regarding our outside stuff. There is a rototiller in the shed. I think dh has used it once. It was given to us by a neighbour. There are a bunch of used tires that are all good enough to resell in the open part at the back of the shed. He's trying to sell them to another mechanic. Inside the shed where dh had told me that my tires were the only ones left, I found 8 full sets of tires. "One set is Sam's, one set is John's and there are yours and Krista's. I think I'm selling the other sets this week (to above-mentioned mechanic)." I told him I don't know what I'm going to do with anything out in the shed. I would like to see a trip to the landfill with some of it. There is a rolled up outside carpet that we used for one year (given to us) and a set of skis that someone else gave to us. (We don't ski.) What I would love to see done with all the "stuff" other than the tires is having it either taken to landfill or moved into the garage so all of dh's stuff is consolidated into one place.

Not sure what kind of Thanksgiving we’re gonna have this year.

Sweetie is still pretty sick and yesterday I took him to the ER. He was tested and does not have Covid nor the flu. Just some sort of a very nasty bacterial virus. He was dehydrated so they gave him fluids to help him along. he was also very confused and disoriented and at times I believe he was hallucinating because he was talking nonsense and moving his hands around and I couldn’t begin to understand what he was doing.

Then, on the way out while we were in the parking lot, he tripped and fell hard. He hit his head, knocked his glasses off and fell on his arm. I was able to get him up and I don’t think he broke anything, but he sure is bruised.

my house is a wreck pretty much so I’m going to spend some time today doing some things around the house. I’m still deaf in my ear and it really hurts, but I can’t afford to go to a doctor in the next day or two cause I can’t leave sweetie by himself. It’ll have to wait. Other than that life just keeps sticking along.

We are here for the season! thank you, d twins, for launching us into the holidays!!! :D
I can't wait to see your new hair cut!
glad temple meeting went well! ta ta for now

hi d cathy yay on your work! that's a big job going through a shed! If you want, you can put up a "free" such and such on fb marketplace - I do that all the time. Hope someone can come and help get some things to the dump, like you want.

hello everyone!

hi d rose oh my goodness - I am praying for your dh to feel better fast!!!! dh/mom has had the hallucinating with dehydration as well. dh's also had it from the reaction of certain strong medicines - nice thing is, is that they don't remember a thing. it's hard to watch - I am so sorry you and he are going through this! my husband had to be tied down feet and all - he also had mittens put on him. it's not unusual for them to reach for things that their brain thinks that they are seeing (mom is constantly organizing in her hand reaching moments - or going through a closet).

oh I am so so sorry he fell and hit is head and broke his glasses! so scary! (if your dh is in the hospital - even though our loved one seem nervous - you can leave to care for yourself. There are people watching over him. I had to with dh - dh didn't remember one time - you don't want to rupture an eardrum - it's very painful and can cause permanent hearing loss.- I know how hard it is to leave him - but you need to be seen).
it is always a joy to be here with you!

Good morning

It is day #4 of our 10 day Thanksgiving break. It is going by too fast!

(((RR))) I agree with blessedw2. I hope you can be seen for that earache and get some relief.

This journey with dementia spouse means I am constantly adjusting and needing to find new ways of doing things. I take DH with me to my appointments. Most of the time he stays by my side going from exam room to wherever. Sometimes there is no room for DH to be with me, so he stays in the waiting room. So far this works because DH is mobile and pleasant to be around. Will it always be this way? I suspect not.

Today is DD14 appointment with her trusted counselor. She is helping & guiding us through the various kinds of therapy recommended by the autism diagnosis. I have hit a roadblock that I don't know how to proceed with the ABA therapy. I have tried 3 different places without success. The best I can do is get DD14 on a 1.5 year waiting list. If it is something she needs now then waiting a year & half feels defeating. The world of DSM has become so complicated that it feels like a foreign language sometimes. When I try to understand it then i run into a massive difference of opinion about ABA therapy. I was surprised to see how much hatred there is about ABA therapy on the forums with people who have autism. I keep thinking.....Do no harm. Do I push for ABA therapy by traveling hours away or let it go? I don't know. I am trusting our family doc and trusted counselor to give me that answer.

RR, I so wish we were around to help you out...do you need to be seen by a doctor and could you ask your ds to help out? I know that moving close to them was a factor in moving to FL, I hope they are open to helping you. Poor sweetie! Dehydrated, and then the fall.

Haircut done, I went across the street to the kitchen store and bought olive oil and balsamic vinegar for the friends that we go to for Christmas Eve. She is a shopper and always buys me the nicest birthday gift and I like to take something to them - they have so much - they have very nice things and use them, but I just want to give things that are consumable. That's what I would want for myself at least.

And I stopped at drugstore and straightened out one script. Now I need to get with doc to get a refill on the other. I didn't know if I'd have to have the doc re-write the first one, so wanted to wait to get the refill.

I'd like to get my car washed this afternoon after my workout, if I'm not feeling too worn out and can remember. We must have gone through a flock of bugs last Wednesday when we went to see dniece.

DH is bowling - I'll have some time upstairs before I have to get ready for workout...

Keeping this brief, I hope....

We are going to my brother's on Saturday, it turns out. He and his girlfriend are going to her parents' for Thanksgiving.

Despite not needing anything in particular for Thursday, we do need groceries, and I came to the realization late last night that with DH having to stay late at work tomorrow for admissions testing, our opportunities for getting groceries are today or Wednesday, and Wednesday, of course is insane. Hence the need for brevity -- I've got to concentrate on getting a grocery list done ASAP.

(((Rose and Sweetie))) How scary! Feel better soon, both of you!

I hope everyone has a good day! And that when I see you next, my cupboards are full!

I am so glad that you wrote this. It instantly connected with my wishes and gave me ideas for gifts. A special bottle of oil, vinegar, a plant or an experience together would be gifts that I would love to receive and give.
Please don't give me random STUFF. I have plenty and I buy whatever I want/need.
Please don't give me gift cards to complicate my life by having to keep up with them.
