Thanksgiving in the USA is a national holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November to give thanks for the year's blessings, with families and friends gathering for a large meal, often featuring a roasted turkey. The holiday has roots in a 1621 harvest feast shared between English colonists and the Wampanoag Native Americans, who had helped the colonists survive their first winter.

The holiday has a complex history, with official proclamations made by various presidents, eventually leading to Lincoln setting the last Thursday of November as a national day of thanks in 1863. In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt moved it to the fourth Thursday in November.

A traditional Thanksgiving meal often features turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing. Other traditions include watching American football games, parades (like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade), and breaking the wishbone to make a wish. Thanksgiving also marks the unofficial start of the Christmas holiday season.

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday! Happy Thanksgiving to all US SHE's.

Helia, I do hope you feel better soon!

Today I need to be up and OTD early for church. After coffee, DF PM is going to help me count all the money, fill in the forms.and put itnin the safe for the treasurer to deal with. I also need.to submit my expenses, again for the treasurer to deal.with!

After that I should be free - may e I can start the process of weighing out and soak the dried fruit for the Christmas cake? Then I can do the actual mixing and baking tomorrow or Saturday? I also need to.do my.shoebox, wrap the gifts and cover the shoebox in pretty paper. I'm hoping I bookmarked the video I watched last year showing me how to do it more easily! :D

Hi, Kittykatt, Thank you for starting us off. Happy Thanksgiving to our American dfriends. I hope that yours is filled with good friends, good times and good food!

Kittykatt, one of my mothers used to make a fruitcake every year. They were fabulous--so rich. I'm sure that yours is wonderful too.

I have just finished hanging the laundry, and am enjoying one of my mocha brownies before heading to bed. See you later!

Hi all! We had a nice day yesterday. I meant to post that the crew arrived safely but then the day got started and there wasn’t a free minute.

Helian, I was going to mention that DD32’s covid started with a cough. I am not sure what the protocol was but I kept DD32 home from the center for 5 days and the center had her wear a mask when she returned. The nurse practitioner put DD32 on the z pac when she tested negative (although she wanted us to retest since they said it can take time to show positive.) The z pack seemed to really help the cough and bronchial type of symptoms.

Have a great day everyone! Happy Thanksgiving to those who are celebrating.

Good morning, all ~ and ...

🦃~*~*~*~ Happy Thanksgiving! ~*~*~*~ 🦃

helia ~ so sorry about the covid. Symptoms seem to be lessening as time goes on - but still - it's crummy enough.
L.Ann ~ glad your crew made it!
kitty ~ thanks for the start!
Doggedly ~ sweet dreams!

I'm up, bright eyed & busy tailed!
My fave Thanksgiving foods: mashed potatoes & stuffing. My worst - those candied sweet potatoes. I'm sorry to all those who love them - they're disgusting. I like them plain with butter. :D
Last year, I brought a few games, cards, and a puzzle - which turned out to be a hit. This year, I brought a whole bunch more!

Okies.. gotta go... G said breakfast was good here at the hotel - biscuits & gravy! Yay, MORE carbs to add to the day.

Kittykat looks like you did really well with the lunch plans. When does it happen?

laurlind ~ we are visiting family in Indiana. My family today. G's family tomorrow - and then head home in the evening. Sometime normal is nice. Hopefully, no unpleasant surprises today.

The breakfast was surprising good. Sometimes, these chain hotels with breakfast buffet are pretty ho-hum. I know that the really old place down the street makes HOMEMADE biscuits and gravy - and that is even more yummy. Unfortunately, the rooms are drafty, wi-fi sketchy - and no elevator. I'm s2s - waiting on the guys to finish and come up from their breakfast discussion
