Turkey bowling is a sport which is based on ordinary bowling. A frozen turkey serves as the bowling ball and 10 liquid-filled plastic beverage bottles are used for bowling pins. The turkey is bowled down a smooth surface such as ice or a soap-covered sheet of painters plastic. The sport is commonly associated with Thanksgiving.

The original variant involves turkey bowling in an aisle of a grocery store. Derrick Johnson, who worked as a grocery clerk at a Newport Beach Lucky's branch, claims to have invented the sport in 1988 while observing a manager slide a frozen turkey across the floor and accidentally topple a soda bottle. Johnson became a self-appointed commissioner of the "Poultry Bowlers Association" and codified the rules and terminology, such as "the fowl line" (cf. "foul line"), "the gobbler" (three strikes in a row; cf. turkey (bowling)), "the Butterball" (a gutterball) and "the wishbone" (a 7-10 split).

A variant of turkey bowling popularized by television station WJW in Cleveland, Ohio uses stacked canned goods instead of soft drink bottles. The WJW version ("Fox 8 Turkey Bowl") is a multiple-round, one-frame knockout tournament televised in segments during WJW's Thanksgiving morning newscast. The event has been held since 1999, including a celebrity invitational (won by Bernie Kosar)[5] in 2023 and a 25th anniversary tournament of champions in 2024.

Good morning Trissie and thank you for another interesting start. I'd never heard of turkey bowling before! I don't even want to think about what happens when the bird starts to defrost!!!

I never made it back here yesterday, so I need to CUOP, but my main achievements apart from all the isual.weekly.stuff, were to set up the wicker box on the kitchen worktop and put as much as I could I to the festive storage tins. And to pull out everything from under the bed in the spare room so I could hoover, and change the sheets. So that's all ready for BIL.when he comes to stay, the weekend before Christmas.

Today I need to get moving, as it's the women's group Advent meditation this evening at church. Not sure if I'll go to the meal afterwards yet - I'll see how tired I'm feeling, as with DH at Choral thi evening, it would be a chance to have an early night and catch up on some sleep. (DH was crashing about at 0 dark 00 -WHY? and his stream of questions asking where everything is have already started this morning. )

On the bright side, today is supposed to be dry, which will make a welcome change from yesterday's rain.

He he, Bama, yeah, in our weather this week, 26 is pretty balmy. It's 17F (-8.3C) now. That's quite a list. Is the pecan pie for a Christmas event?

Today, I have the weekly KS2J get together at K's house - after 10:15. And then, I have things to do on so many different fronts: groceries, laundry, clean sheets, the guest room, Memorial thank yous, payroll, getting bd treat + card for friend B, dry cleaning drop off, EXERCISE, looking into an overnight trip with AC next week, buying yarn for new project, and of course - making dinner. And that doesn't include anything Christmas-related. Dh has invited MZ to eat with us again, maybe tonight or tomorrow night. No response yet since he invited her last night. It feels easy to become paralyzed and overwhelmed by all I need to do, but I'm just going to accept it will not all get done today. I'll try to make a dent, though.

Bama, not sure if the frozen turkey will really appreciate being pardoned, what with having a head cut off, but who knows!

helia, I favor the kind of toilet seat that brags on being easy to clean, in that they sort of snap off and allow access when it's time to clean. But otherwise, I guess go with the ones that have the most appreciation from buyers in lists of reviews. I think the ones I have now are no longer available, actually.

I'm sure everyone is waiting with bated breath to learn who has heard of turkey bowling - it's not me, I'm afraid. My first thoughts are also with Bama - let's pardon all the turkeys (in time), and second with Kittykatt, because ... .. raw fowl ... .. ohmygoodness, lol.

We are off to HRH's gen prac appt today. It's been sleeting and "icy-mix"-ing, but he thinks the roads will be okay since it's not a super early appt. Hoping everyone out there on the way to work and school will be, too.

Helia, dd2 is coming to visit this weekend so the pie is a little treat for all of us. It’s easier for me to bake a little at a time for our small family than all at once. I baked an apple pie when dd1 came home last week. I might move to cakes or cookies after this. That way we get to sample all of the goodies but in moderation. Although I’m not one to be moderate when it comes to the holiday season and desserts.

Harriet, we had to buy a new toilet last year. I will have to say, who knew there were so many options for something so simple? It seems pretty cut and dried to me but I don’t take into account the preferences we all have.

Trissie, I’m guessing the turkeys would prefer pardons while alive, before beheading lol. I never really cared for turkey meat so I’d be good with that.
