Re: Winter Swimming Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Winter swimming is the activity of swimming during the winter season, typically in outdoor locations (open water swimming) or in unheated pools or lidos. In colder countries, it may be synonymous with ice swimming, when the water is frozen over. This requires either breaking the ice or entering where a spring prevents the formation of ice. It may also be simulated by a pool of water at 0 °C (32 °F), the temperature at which water freezes.
In Nordic countries of Europe as well in Eastern Europe (e.g. Ukraine, Russia, and Baltic countries), winter swimming is a traditional cultural element and part of religious celebrations like the Epiphany in Eastern Orthodoxy.
Competitions for winter swimming also exist. Many winter swimmers swim with standard swimsuits rather than with wetsuits or other thermal protection. Famous ice and winter swimmers include Lynne Cox and Lewis Gordon Pugh.
Also, many locations in North America and Europe hold polar bear plunges, commonly to celebrate New Year's Day, although participants are not expected to swim and generally most do not swim.
International winter and ice swimming competitions take place around the world with two of the larger organizing bodies being the International Ice Swimming Association and the International Winter Swimming Association. Both organizations have similar competition guidelines including water temperatures typically below 5 °C (41 °F), a 25 metres (82 ft) pool often cut out of frozen bodies of water, and swimmers limited to goggles, one standard bathing suit, and one latex or silicone cap - neoprene is not allowed.

Re: Winter Swimming Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for another chilly start. I'm very glad to be tucked up in bed still as I read all about it!
We have a nearby winter swimming event - the Exmouth Christmas Day Swim. This is a popular, informal, event where hundreds of people run into the sea at 11 a.m. on December 25th. The unofficial start point is in front of the Octagon, but due to its large, unorganised nature, the event can be very busy and chaotic. I know some people that regularly participate, even though they're quite normal for the rest of the year!
Good night,.Dogged! I forgot toention.tjat the video also suggested them men should try actually putting away items (like scissors, for example) in the right place so they would know where these useful things were!
Today is supposed to be dry and sunny, so I'd like a walk - almost certainly.round the estate as it's going to be soggy under foot. Can I take the latest bag of donations with me? I could drop them off at the charity bank and that would free up some much needed space in the bedroom. I'd also like to do something in my garden .
Other jobs - order a new valance sheet for the spare room bed. The one I took off to wash has some claw damage (almost certainly.Matilda!) but also it's fraying at some of the seams (not Matilda, but signs of old age. I think I bought it 20+ years ago,.so it's definitely time for a.. new one! And the kitchen needs it's weekly clean and the rest of the house could do with some attention. And I should do something for Christmas as well...

Re: Winter Swimming Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Thanks for the start, trissie. We have a polar plunge here but I’m never up early enough to go, nor would I. Why waste an early morning darting in and out of a freezing body of water? Makes no sense to me. I’ll stay warm, dry and in bed tyvm.
Kittykatt, putting things where they go seems to be opposite of anything my dh does. I’ve cleared up several cluttered spots in the home so of course he thinks he needs to fill them up with “whatever”.
I woke to a message from dd2, her last semester at college is paid for, hallelujah. She’s a late night owl. I do worry that I slept through what might have been something that required immediate attention though.

Re: Winter Swimming Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, Bama! That's very good news that your DD's fees are paid.
I get it that your DH fills up cleared spaces - mine is similar.
My strategy is to conduct a continuous, quiet, subversive system of decluttering, so there is always an "away" to put stuff (thank you, Dogged!
) so if I'm really frustrated, I can just sweep it all into a drawer, with just a quick check to make sure that all real rubbish ( think biscuit wrappers, tissues, cellophane wrappers to *something*) is thrown away first.
Occasionally I will insist that DH does something about his mess *now*, but I pick my battles on that. The latest was the new cupboard in the office, which is supposed to hold stationery and other office supplies, but was so disorganised that I could never find anything. Having asked DH several times to organise it and no visible progress, (he was emphatic that he had the "perfect" method in mind) , I started asking him to find something I needed that was in the cupboard somewhere. That had the desired effect, and in the next few days another shelf and some storage baskets appeared. DH then spent a very productive couple of hours sorting through everything and grouping like with like, as I had requested.
It's not perfect, and I still prefer our old system, but it's 100 times better than the mess we had before.
We had a heavy frost overnight, and today is blue sky and sunshine. It's still chilly, and my front garden is frozen.,so I can't do anything out there, but I've taken Fred for a long walk once it had warmed up a bit. He was very patient waiting while I tackled some housework. He loves the sun, but isn't keen on cold paws!
We're now sharing some Greek yogurt, before I check out the back garden and then walk the latest bag of donations to the charity bank.

Re: Winter Swimming Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
There are no winter swimming events near us as we're not close to any large body of water. However, there are several polar bear plunges in Lake Michigan every year, but we're a good 2.5 hour drive from Lake Michigan. Probably the other Great Lakes have them too. We're 45 minutes from Lake Erie -- but never go. --And now I'm feeling chilly. LOL!
My dh is actually better at putting things away and decluttering, etc. than I am.
LOL! Maybe that's his Dutch genes? No idea. He's gotten more particular on this point as he's gotten older. I'm actually not particularly bad.
Thanks for an interesting, albeit chilly, start, trissie. What will the th- event for Thursday be? I hope you're having a good day at payroll.
Glad you woke up to good news from DD2, Bama!
Enjoy your walk in the sunshine, Kitty. Wish I could join you; I need a good walk. I'll try for one today.
Yesterday was fairly productive. At least the house is in better shape. I spiffed up the main bathroom which badly needed some attention, did the clothes laundry (still have towels to do), dropped off 3 wool sweaters to be dry cleaned, got clean sheet on our bed, and with dh and M got the garbage and recycling gathered and to the curb. I also got groceries from WF, went to a morning get together with 3 friends (K, S2, and J), got R a bday card + treat, prepped it and dropped it off at the Cs' house, had a payroll phone call with the school's director (I'm happy not to teach in January if it's hard to get all teachers enough classes; I did that last year and it was very nice!) and hosted MZ for dinner. I did not exercise much nor make progress on thank yous or payroll. THAT will need to happen today.
Today: I need to finish folding and putting away darks. Perhaps I will do a load of towels. I need to exercise; I think going to the gym is OK now. I also need to get groceries from Kroger, which might end up being an order. I must prep for payroll and teach payroll 1:30 - 3:30 after I have a birthday lunch with friend B 11-1ish. So, I need to be prepped for class before 11. Pest control will be here between 8 and 10 to check traps. Progress on thank yous would be good as well.
Next:
- some qt
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
Later:
- make the bed

My dh is actually better at putting things away and decluttering, etc. than I am.
Later:
