he has been very friendly during his visits but dd's can't forgive what happened and the years before. I have a rule in the house that if he is not polite etc. that I will tell him to stop and that it is hurtful and painful. That he would have to leave. He has no idea the pain and stress he has caused at the hospital and in the past. I think he has pain on his own and wards off things if he isn't getting his way or anyone disagrees. he and is wife are not a marriage. She really doesn't like him and does drink. Why they stay together is hard for me to understand. Why stay with someone who you have no respect for or doesn't like you just because you are older. not a happy life. He also has burnt some bridges. He thinks he is doing the right thing, he really does, but it caused hurt feelings with others. I think he has a lot of pain. He feels he does a lot for others which he does but doesn't understand what he says and does causes pain for dd's. I may have to talk to him to see how he feels - he just sees all that he does and doesn't feel people reciprocate. I pray for him. I really do. I wish he and dd's could talk with out pain.

I can support dd's, be kind to brother who doesn't understand unless he crosses the line.

mom is out with dd younger and d helper - Christmas shopping -mom needs to get out

Walked a bit with my umbrella ddoggo declined to go off the deck.
Had a late bfast cannot believe it's lunch time already.
foggy raining day here.
had lunch
started laundry

One JOY I'm choosing to focus on:
Last year I made a red white and black plaid blanket with b & w flannel on the back of it.
No batting I'd forgotten about it until today. It's perfect for the couch with a good book.

I'm late getting here but have been going full steam since I got up this morning. I took DD14 to her PT appointment this morning along with completing most of the other normal morning doings. It keeps me hopping to stay up.
This afternoon I will be taking DD14 to her 5th appointment this week. This appointment is to discuss the test results from blood work and referrals. Nourish online hasn't worked out as I had hoped so I will be seeking the family doc recommendation for nutritionist to work one-on-one with DD14.

Christmas shopping is on my mind but I just don't seem to be doing much about it. This week i have managed to ....
** buy DD14 a new mattress
** buy DS17 a new pair of boots
** buy DH new winter underwear
** order $250+ of food to be picked up at 4pm today
but there is nothing bought to put under the Christmas tree. OH NO...I don't have a tree up yet, so there is that to consider too. HOWEVER, there are still 20 days left so maybe I will GMAT eventually.
I don’t endorse procrastination, but it seems to be my M.O.

On the flip side - we have a happy home environment with almost no drama or cross words said. I am going to encourage & challenge the teens to do the Christmas decorating and see what happens.

the cement company is putting the side walls for cement to be poured
it's very cold out there right now.
beef is cooking for the next 2 hours, bacon made and small white onions are sautéed.
I need mushrooms
I froze the other things
simmering chicken breasts for dogs this weekend
dd asked me to do that -

cabbage cut up to cook for tomorrow
carrots cut to cook for tomorrow.
potatoes I will make tomorrow
no meat - I think this will be filling enough.

Today we "sent" the invitation (email with "stationary" that is offered by the email account - one click to add it) for a family party at our house on the afternoon of the 24th. Just snacky things and desserts. You'd be surprised how much effort and thinking went in to such a simple decision, lol. This is later than we usually get together, but it will be fine.

I get the James Clear email each week, too, Twins. He usually has something that really hits me, something I need to hear. Like your note today:
You don't need all the answers right now. New paths will reveal themselves if you have the courage to get started."
I don't have a lot of courage right now.

I did "just get started" this morning. (Well, it was 11:00 a.m. but I was in the shower by 11:20, and I got dressed, did my Bible reading, some floor stretches/exercises, and got myself out of the house.
Had to go to both banks, dmom's to deposit her renter's check, mine to sign some church paperwork.
Went to Wmart, got cookies for tonight, and a CuddlDuds type shirt (which would have been better had I bought the XL, but the L was okay -- and I did NOT get too cold at the parade.I also bought some candy for dgrands' stockings. (I still like to do stockings for all of them.)
PIcked up the kids after school and DGS announced that he was not going to the parade if he had to stand outside in the cold. Told him that was fine and took him home. DGD pouted about having to wear a coat over her sweatshirt, and actually refused to put her coat on at the parade. Talk about two kids being as different as daylight and dark! She claims she does not get cold. (I did succeed in getting her to put on socks with her Crocs.) SMH.
She and I ate at Subway before we went to the church, where she enjoyed playing with the pastor's grandson and a few other friends, and I passed out cookies for two hours. THEN the parade, which was another hour, and I promise you, my feet were killing me when we got home.

She had her bath, talked to DS on the phone, and is sound asleep now.

I've been scrolling on FB and actually talking to ChatGTP... "he" has given me a shopping list and a step by step time frame for cooking family Christmas breakfast (which will be more like an early supper.) I talked to dmom today and asked if she would come and supervise if I did the cooking. Of course she is willing to do that, and I * think * I want to do this... but it makes me nervous and I have actually been sitting here crying. I'm just afraid it's going to be a disappointment and DS will wish we had gone to Cracker Barrel. My dmom's Christmas breakfast was by far dh's favorite meal of the year, and I think it is the same for DS.
I just don't know if I'm taking on too much responsibility. It's just so difficult to have everything come out right and stay hot, you know? OTOH, dmom IS here to oversee my efforts, so how can I mess up? I just always feel really incompetent in the kitchen.
And I guess I just sorta dread Christmas... and all dh's traditions are being messed up -- eating Christmas Eve at dbil's this year (and DS just HOPES we will still have our traditional BBQ pork meal.) Then dmom has given up breakfast... and I may mess that up entirely.
Of course, I sat and cried at dmom's last year, worrying about that biopsy, and thinking about how much dh loved eating there for Christmas.

OTOH... the teddy bear lady sent me pictures; my bears are completed and I am going to pick them up Monday, since I'll have the dgrands with me most of the weekend. I told her to save me the scraps from the shirts, I might use some of them for Christmas ornaments. I need to look at Pintrest.

I've just been really emotional the last couple days.
You'd be surprised how much effort and thinking went in to such a simple decision, lol.
Obviously, this does not surprise me, Harriet.

I also appreciate the reassurances that dgrands' will not forget dh, although dgd's answer to almost any question is, "I dunno."
Tonight, she was talking about her dentist, who was watching the parade with us, and collection a LOT of chocolate candy. She said (to me, later) "Dr. S tells me not to eat too much candy, but he was getting a lot of candy himself." LOL. I asked her if she remembered how Granddaddy always wanted to pick up all the candy he could. She said, "I dunno."
I loved hearing about the toast "soldiers," KittyKat! That is so neat!
Mystery, I had all four of my grandparents until I was almost 30. DS was in first grade when two of them passed, 14 when one passed, and in college when the last one died. He doesn't have really good memories of the first two, but that is partly because they were both sick his entire life, and he didn't spend a lot of time with them. But I know DGS will remember dh. DH lost his grandfather at approximately the same age, and he had sooo many
memories. HIs grandfather was one of the most important people in his life. It may be that DGD's memories aren't as clear, but I will do all I can to keep him "alive" in her memories. Not too long ago she was doing some sort of exercise and I asked her where she learned that. She said, "Granddaddy taught me." (It was some sort of warm-up his football players used to do.) As you can see, it is not hard for me to talk about dh -- I have constantly been changing my verbs here from present to past tense.

Cathy, I'm so sorry you and dh had such a hard night. (((HUGS))) I'm praying tonight is better for you both.

I definitely move things from Friday to next week, because it is hard to do things with the dgrands underfoot -- unless it is something they WANT to do -- DGS was very helpful with the decorations last weekend.
Blessed -- it sounds so exciting to have the builders getting their things done and a landscape person coming to do the yard... I'm almost envious! I know it is going to look so nice when everyone is finished. I am sorry about your ddaughters having such a problem with your dbro, but maybe they just need a little more time to see if they can trust him to be polite and kind to all of you. I am praying for these family relationships.

Mystery, I'm glad you got that muffler fixed. Reminds me of my mid-life crisis Camaro. Embarrassingly loud is putting it mildly.

Twins -- how did the wedding go? Were you warm enough? One of the girls in the parade had on a dress that had a completely open back. I know she had to be freezing! Our weather has been the same... either it is raining or it looks like it could again any minute. I don't really mind, but it does seem awfully cold.
telling his mother on the phone he was sitting up in bed with soldiers,
LOL, Harriet!

I hope you have a good night, too, Nancy! No bs problems!

LadyM -- WTG on managing all the appointments this week! You definitely have a LOT on your plate. I hope your teens jumped into the decorating chore happily.

Well, I have three newspapers piled up here that I need to read... three novels I have started (and there may be another I'm not thinking of right now) ... one self-help/Bible study book I started... Christmas cards less than half-way completed... NOTHING wrapped... several gifts I need to decide on and purchase... and dishes in the sink. No wonder I want to cry.

I hope you all have a happy Saturday! I plan to wake up with a better attitude.
Tomorrow is another day.

Your family party sounds lovely, Harriet!

(((LucyLee))) I can understand how you're feeling overwhelmed, with all the memories of past Christmasses, and all the things you feel you "have" to do. Re timings for meals, I would give yourself at least 15 minutes extra "wiggle room", maybe even 30 minutes if you're anxious about everything being ready on time. Also, it's a good idea to have some light snacks in reserve that you can pour into bowls and hand round (think nuts, crisps etc) as a kind of appetiser in case something happens to upset the timings and the meal is delayed a bit. That way everyone will be occupied, and they won't be thinking, "Whenever are we going to eat?"
