Laura,.I'm glad your parents are getting.good help now, and your DDad is getting some respite. I think I it will make the move to full time care easier for him and for your DMum.
Dogged, how long had Nomad been at the shelter before your DBro adopted him? I only.ask because when we adopted Jude, she had only been at Blue Cross for around 10 days, so she'd only had her first course of vaccinations (over here, a three week gap is required between the first and second round). Oh, and they spayed her for us as well. We were required either to bring her back to Blue Cross to have her stitches out and her second vaccination,.or take her to our vet and they would do it, send notification to Blue Cross and they paid the bill. How very interesting about making ketchup in your slow cooker!!!
Gma, I remember watching the Christmas celebration at Gustavus last year, thank you for providing the link - I'll enjoy watching this year's event on YouTube.
Today, DH is involved with his choral.society all day and well into the evening.. I really need to work on the house (it's not that dirty, but it's got really messy over the last couple of days as I haven't done much housework:oops: ), wrap some presents , try and get the shoebox done (it would be good to take it to church tomorrow) , start some Christmas decorating, make mince pies and post on Nextdoor to try and get someone to fix the spring on the dining table hinge.
I think once DH has left I'll start with 15 minutes in each room, and take a bag with me for any rubbish, and a box for anything that belongs in another room. That should make a visible difference.

Kittykatt, thanks for the start ! I think I would enjoy snowmobiling. I see that the week's titles were full of funny winter sports ! Enjoy time with a quiet house. I don't think we have any equivalent of Nextdoor. But our neighbourhood (the street and the next one) share a Whatsapp group and sometimes we lend each other a hand.
Another week is gone, I really can't catch up on posts. Some progress on the Christmas presents front, also for the December birthdays, and Secret Santa at payroll. Still much to do, many things to find and buy. The local school administration decided it was a good time to organize an informational evening at the local collège (school after primary school, where kids go from 11yo to 15yo) and we need to / are required to go, as parents of an almost-10yo, to understand what the enrolment process will be.
MrNG had a small surgical job done yesterday, a pre-cancer skin thing removed from his forehead, which needs to be carefully bandaged for the ten days to come. DS10 has "nothing to wear", all his trousers have holes or are too small, and there's no better time to go to shopping malls than on those pre-Christmas Saturdays...
Fortunately I won't do much baking or cooking, except what I want to bake, we won't have guests over for Christmas day, we won't have guests sleeping at home... so I'm sure we can manage.

Celebrated in Germany, Belgium, some central Europe countries, and in Eastern parts of France, so Happy St Nikolaus day to those who celebrate !
I celebrated it when I was young and we lived close to the Belgian border, we would get chocolate and a tangerine.

Good morning, FFB! You have lots on as always. I remember reading that Dutch children left their shoes out by the chimney for St Nick to fill them with sweets/ chocolate and a small toy (Much easier on the parents than a Playstation!!

I'm glad MrNGuy is recovering well. In my personal experience these minor facial surgeries are, if course , noticeable for a while, but once the inflammation has subsided, the scar will eventually fade, so that to the untrained eye, it won't be noticeable . I had a "thing" ( which turned out to be benign) removed from the side of my face some years ago, and had great difficulty finding it when I wanted to show the results.to a DF who has having the same.mi or procedure and understandably was worried about the end result. I wouldn't.worry too much if the dressing falls off,.either, (mine did after a couple of days) just keep it clean and try not to touch it too much except to pat it dry gently after showering.
Your Christmas plans sound both fun and realistic. I'm intrigued by your school system. Thinking back to my French lessons.many years ago, I remember an establishment called a "lycée", where students.took.the baccalauréat (similar, I think, to our "A levels")?
DH has left, with I think everything he needs, after I found a stamp for him to put on DSisil's birthday card, which he will.drop in the letter box on his way. Jude and Matilda are curled up on our bed, Freddie is on "his" chair in the kitchen, and I need to get moving. The sky at the back of the house is looking quite promising with patches of blue sky, but it's very overcast at the front. I suspect.more.rain is on the way!

It's a blessing that the surgery was done in time for the bandages to be removed before Christmas, Frenchie, that would make some unusual Christmas photos! Boo at school making things harder on parents, says the woman who will be attending a school choir singing at the lightning of village Christmas tree this afternoon 
kittykatt, I am with you on the house having been let down the last couple days, but yours and mine are probably a bit (lot) different!
So, Saturday. As mentioned above, my afternoon will be spent freezing my *** in a crowd of kindergarten and elementary school children and parents (and baby prams with the youngest siblings) with loud music and overpriced refreshment. You can tell that after 14 years of attending these activities I am slightly less cheerful than I was! I will confess that two years ago, the one year I had no child in local school (DS was already at lyceum and the twins changed school), and therefore did not have to attend the St. Martin parade that the local school co-organizes, I was very relieved!
Anyway, having a slow morning because I deserve one, and getting mentally ready to reclaim the kitchen. It's baking weekend, and DH wants to empty and winterize the swimming pool - you have to wait for the temperatures to drop enough so that the water will not turn green without the technology running, but also not too long as the pipes that run the water to the filtration will not freeze and burst. Careful balance and years of experience say tha that it's generally between November 20-December 10 that is a good time, hence this weekend!

Good morning! Thank you for starting us off, Kittykatt. I am theoretically asleep. Germane has woken me over and over in the past hour, and I don't dare ignore her as yesterday she peed right behind my chair. Tonight I think that she is alert and working the system to get treats on demand. I am afraid that she will get trapped somewhere as she forgets how to back up so I turn on the light and help her. She shows me that she has used her pee pad and demands her reward. Even with dementia, she is better at training me than I am at training her.
I am going to try to go back to sleep again, as Germane seems to have done. Sorry for the not personal replies, but typing on my phone.
