That salad sounds really good. I bought a head of iceberg lettuce a week or two ago, and am loving the crunchiness it adds to sandwiches. Much as I like leaf and boston lettuce, nothing matches iceberg for that good crisp crunch.

trissie, Bama might be on to something. Is there someone in the village that could help you with wrapping at their house? You have plenty of cookies to offer in compensation.

I don't know any party games myself, I think that this dog training exercise would be really fun as a party game. It's meant to show owners that their dogs do not understand human words, so you have to be patient with them and help them to understand. Divide the players into groups of five or so. Each group chooses one member to be the Dog. Dogs all leave the room while instructions are given.
Each group is given a written set of instructions that they have to train the Dog to do, and a bag of candy. My group's instructions were: The Dog must turn around once (pirouette) and then walk to the window.
The trainers are not allow to say a word once the Dogs come back in the room. They can only encourage their Dog to do the right thing by giving them a candy, and withholding candy when the Dog gets it wrong.
We had a short time to discuss strategy. We decided that we would start by giving our Dog a candy when she started turning to the left. After that, she would have to turn to the left more and more until she was doing the pirouette reliably. Then we would put our hands behind our backs and stare at the window. When she would turn to the window to see what we were looking at, we would give her a candy. Every move she made in the direction of the window, we would trot along beside her and give her candies.

LOL, I wasn't thinking of making the outing optional for the teenagers, trissie.

It seems to me that I must have gotten more than that done, but I can't remember what.

Dogged, we used to play Consequences at birthday parties when I was small ... and also as a teenager. You can imagine the difference in humour between the ages! But I think it would potentially work well for all ages as it's not energetic, no special skills are needed, and only requires pencil and paper.

The dog training exercise sounds fascinating, although the dog I grew up with definitely understood works such as "WALK!" , "BEACH" and "SUPPER". He definitely did *not* understand phrases like "Get off the sofa!" (My parents didn't approve of animals on the furniture, something I gave up on years ago, and in any case, it's so nice to snuggle up to someone small, warm and furry!)

She may not see much through them, but, boy, Germane sure knows how to arrange her eyes into Tragedy Eyes. Treat has been given, tragedy averted.

Kittykatt, I do agree that dogs do learn some words. The point of the exercise was that dogs are not born knowing our language, so when you first introduce a concept to them, you can't just say Sit! and expect them to know what you mean.

Dogged you've really got me thinking. Do you think animals "learn English" from each other? Or is it just associating a particular sound with a particular action? I can't remember if I mentioned it before, but we adopted Matilda from Romania, so she'd only heard Romanian before coming to the UK. People did ask me in all seriousness whether we'd be learning Romanian, but there was no need, as she settled in really quickly, still knew her name (although, being a cat she doesn't always respond ) and it didn't take her long to get into our routine, mostly by copying the other two. (They both "sit" for their supper.) When asked, we used to joke that the only word she didn't understand was "No!"

Bama ~ party games - the only party game I know for lots of people at the same time is Charades. There is a Kids' Charades game that easy subjects. We play it with Li'l H and it's a lot of fun. Kids' Charades.
trissie ~ I think the townhouse is a little over 2100 sq. ft. It's a fun layout. The 2 sides are a half level off from each other. After you go into the main level of kitchen & dining room, there are 2 levels up from the dining room and 2 levels down from the kitchen. There are no long hallways - more like small landings at the end of all the little stairways. Gma mentioned something about a walker when we were talking about carpet. If we ever need one of those, we're in big, deep doodoo.

• Talked to ds/A for a bit trying to encourage him to send me a Xmas list. He's got till the weekend.
• I ordered customized "reading blankets" for Ddil/R & Li'l H. Probably not what Ddil/R would've ordered, but Li'l H will love it and she'll SUPER love that her mom got one, too. They're big library goers.

• Spent a couple of hours pouring over lights and bathtubs. Almost there....
• Thought I was going to make the whole day without getting out my comfy clothes, but the neighbors across the street have invited me over for supper. He (80) cooks - made too much - and needs someone to come over and eat. Yep.. I'll need to shower.

No adult parties for me Trissie. DD39’s work is having an adult party on Saturday which is why Little Bit is spending the night. I bet you would like Tuba Christmas, Dogged. There are a variety of different horns in the concert. It is done world wide. They play Christmas songs…. Mostly carols. First the horns play it thru once and then the audience sings along on the second run thru. They read the Christmas story midway thru.

Called the investment company who claim I should have the letter by Monday.
