Re: Shortbread Sunday
Shortbread is a traditional Scottish biscuit renowned for its rich, buttery flavor and crumbly "short" texture. Unlike many other cookies, true shortbread contains no leavening agents like baking powder or soda, relying instead on its high fat content for its signature melt-in-the-mouth consistency.
Shortbread is made from simplee Ingredients: Traditional recipes follow a "1:2:3" ratio: one part sugar, two parts butter, and three parts flour.: It is described as "short" because the high fat content inhibits the formation of long gluten strands, resulting in a crumbly rather than stretchy texture.
Shortbread has three traditional shapes:
Fingers: Thick oblong slabs.
Rounds: Individual circular biscuits.
Petticoat Tails: Large circles divided into triangular wedges, often associated with Mary, Queen of Scots.

Re: Shortbread Sunday
Happy Sunday everyone!
Smilelee, Matilda was very attentive yesterday evening, and came upstairs with me, straight into the bedroom and onto the bed.
Dogged, I had to laugh at Germane's advice to Matilda, but I haven't let her see it!
FFB, those photos were beautiful!
Helia, a new winter coat sounds a very good idea,. especially with your current weather!
Gma, you must have been very glad to get back home and.warm.uo again, and I hope you enjoyed the brunch.
L.Ann, I hope the art garden was fun.
Laura, I hope DS feels better soon and the rest of you stay well.
Trissie, I think a lot of the old songs.over here, especially the shanties (sung while working on a boat ) amd drinkong songs (self explanatory! ) were.fairly.bawdy.
I never made it back here yesterday , but it turned out very well. The vet emailed.ro say that all the meds and food.were.in,.so I.decided to go and pick everything up yesterday afternoon, and as it was very quiet, I was there chatting.for ages to the receptionists, and also met the new vet.
However, when I eventually came home I did manage to decorate the tree, make some more mince pies and finally wrap that shoebox ready to take to church today.
Today is church this morning, and there is a baptism during the service (infant baptism, I think) . I'm also doing chalice duty, but I'm hoping for a quiet afternoon!

Re: Shortbread Sunday
Well, I never got back yesterday either, kittykatt, so...
What we did do, was go to the movies! At almost 13, the twins are old and mature enough to be home alone for a couple hours, so we went to see Now You See Me: Now You Don't, a funny heist film. Third installment in series, almost as good as the first one (second one was not that good, but still fun), so we had a lovely date night!
Today, it's baking time again and maybe put up the tree? And get ready for the week to come and brave some administrative tasks that have been put on back burner.

Re: Shortbread Sunday
Good morning!
kitty ~ shortbread is one of my favorite cookies. It has just the right amount of sweetness that my tastebuds like. And I like the texture, too. haha! I guess your deviousness worked with Matilda.
trissie ~ nice that you were able to get out. I like those movies. Just plain ol' fun.
Not sure if I'm going to get out for church or not. They've cancelled first service, which we normally go to. I'll think about it for a bit. Right now, it's -4. The weather app says it feels like -22. That means plenty of dry air inside, so I'm going to dig out the humidifiers today and get them going. My mom used to put pans of water on the registers. She also use to put orange peels with cloves stuck in them on the registers. A little mom & registers trivia.
Li'l H's violin recital canceled. We haven't heard officially, but I'm sure the horse riding lesson is canceled. Haven't heard whether she's coming over today. If she does, we'll probably go over and get her in the truck. We'll probably hear from Ddil/R sometime this morning.

Re: Shortbread Sunday
I hope you're getting ready to enjoy a quiet afternoon, Kitty. What was on your Sunday lunch menu today? I love shortbread!
Going to a movie with the twins sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon, trissie. Will you bake more cookies today? Good luck with admin tasks.
That's super cold, Smile. Stay warm. I've noticed my lips have started getting chapped with the cold temps.
I didn't get back here yesterday either. I didn't get all my goals done - but I made a good dent in them. Dh has ordered a book for the Ks so shopping for them is now complete. I ordered a gift for ds, so I think I'm done shopping for their family; I might get something more for little I, but it's very fun to shop for a baby! I did not get the bed for RH moved. I also didn't finish the discussion with dh re: dd30's big gift. CG1 was good but there's a lot of medical things going on with the group, mainly with the children, major surgery for 1 child next summer (he has CP) and an outpatient procedure on the heart for J's dd14. SO grateful there is great healthcare here.
The sun is just now rising at 8 a.m. It is 4F (-15.6C) out there. Fortunately, there's no wind. It looks like it will be a beautiful if cold day!
High of 19F (-7.2C). Today, I have church at 10. Perhaps I'll be hosting dinner tonight? That's not clear since S and J12yo are away at a swim meet. Other things I'd like to do today: order more gifts (zoo gift certificate for dniece, dh's gift), cardio work out at the gym, payroll - review my own exam, Mem. thank you cards. Perhaps I'll start on some preliminary tasks getting the guest room together.
SO, a back tire on my car is still leaking. Dh filled it all the way up last night. I need to call the tire place tomorrow. Kinda irritating since they said they took care of it. AND my windshield washing fluid is once again not coming out on the front windshield. It's fine on the back.
Next:
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- make the bed
Later:
- tidy the kitchen
- label charity gifts
- 9:45 otd to church
- drop off gifts

- order zoo certificate for dniece

Re: Shortbread Sunday
◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
And Good afternoon to Euro-SHEs !
kittykatt, thanks for the start. We love shortbread, my gingerbread recipe for winter cookies is actually more a ginger-spiced shortbreead cookie dough. How long can you keep mince pies before they need to be eaten ? I'm curious about new Christmas types of baking.
Have a good time at church and a peaceful Sunday.
trissie, how nice, a date night while the kids at home can take care of themselves ! Good luck (continued) with all the baking.
Smile, sorry the church service is cancelled. Is it due to the weather? Are you writing the temperatures in Celsius or Fahrenheit ? I love the mixed smell of orange and cloves (as in orange pomanders). Smells can easily bring back memories.
helia, that is cold. Car problems can be so annoying. Good luck with all the things yo want to do !
Did get things done this morning, though not a lot, a lol, some lunchbox cooking... Prepped today's lunch but MrNG didn't include enough veggies (or the right ones) in the weekly grocery order, the menu said steamed fish and veggies with aïoli (garlic mayonnaise) but you can't really steam sweet potato. Had to do a quick trip to the convenience store, open on Sunday mornings, and bought broccoli. Meanwhile MrNG dealt with some fighting
.
TADAs
up at 7 because DS7 wanted to do some paperfolding craft we had promised... but not at 7am
breakfast
lol in
cooking ahead for the weekly lunchboxes
cooked for lunch, made aïoli
trip to grocery store
also fetched a parcel at the Amazon locker
lunch served and eaten, now cleaned up with MrNG's help
laundry on indoors dryign rack
had light instant coffee
TODOs
much cleaning and re-locating and organizing, the house is a mess
I would like to bake, if it's a peaceful family-bonding time
not if it means more stress and noise
some Christmas-present-strategy talk with MrNG
still need to wrap the Secret Santa present for tomorrow
DS7's homework
cook dinner, at some point (cauliflower gratin)
progress on my stitching project? it won't be finished this year but I can work on it
some form of exercise
set things up for the week
take care of my health and my energy - breaks, breathe, bed early
And Good afternoon to Euro-SHEs !

helia, that is cold.
TADAs

Re: Shortbread Sunday
That's some really cold weather you got there, Smile*Lee! Stay warm!
helia, it was an adult-only date night, we left the girls home!
We haven't had a date night since August and it was really lovely, though tainted by the main topic for the drive was an incident that DS called me about right before we left. Raising a neuro-divergent teen is even harder than raising a neuro-divergent preschooler, and that was hard enough!
Frenchie, I am taking inspiration from you and going to do some food preps for the week to come. Re fun time when baking with kids... well, there's this kind of cookies that nobody really likes in the family. BUT - you make them by pressing a bit of dough into a mold. We have lots of those mold, because you usually buy them in sets - 25 pieces of one shape. You can also do that on the dining table, allocating each kid a portion of the dough. Oh those memories of making them with three kids at the same time who were NOT arguing about whose turn it was!
