Forsythia is an easy-to-grow, hardy deciduous shrub that makes a cheerful show of bright yellow flowers early in spring. Numerous small, bell-shaped blooms are borne along bare twiggy stems, before the mid-green leaves appear. Forsythias make excellent shrubs for garden borders but do have a relatively short period of interest, as neither the twiggy branches nor the large, toothed-edged light green leaves have any ornamental appeal, so avoid siting in a prominent position. Forsythias are quick to grow and tolerate a wide range of growing conditions in the garden.

Bama, There are plenty of plants that are hardy here. The University of MN horitculture school specializes in working to develop plants that are suitable for our climate. Apple trees of many varieties, Northern Lights Azaleas, lilacs are just a few things that grow well here.
I think it's time for me to go to bed. I've started in my dining room - uncovered 3 chairs, and have a table that is covered. One of my goals is to find the rest of my bank statements (only 4 are missing). Another goal is to discover what is on the table! And I'm sure there will be plenty that can be thrown away. Then to put a pretty table cloth on it, and maybe even order some fresh flowers. This will be more than a one day project.

Gma, I'm glad you have people to advise you over your DMum's house. You're making very good progress with the paper sorting. I really like your plan to make your table pretty when you've got it cleared - what a good reward!

Today DH leaves to spend the weekend with his DBro and family. I need to drop him at the train station, and then I'm planning to work in the spare room /office. I wont finish it this weekend, but if I can get a couple of big jobs done (I can take advantage of being able to shut the door on any mess, so I can do a "proper" job decluttering and cleaning those areas) that will leave the smaller jobs to work on when DH is back. I have earmarked the airing cupboard and the wardrobe for this weekend and if possible I would also like to pull out the bed and clean under there (DH's suitcase which lives there will be with him this weekend, so that job will be slightly easier!)

I've dropped DH down at the station. It's raining, but I'm just grateful it's not snow/ ice. The dustmen have finally been, so Ive put the bins back. Freddie has had a very short walk ( he does not like cold/ wet/ wind, but it's sometimes easier to just take him out so he can discover for himself how unpleasant it is outside! ). Going to have coffee and breakfast, and then make plans for another indoors day.

Cheering you on for a good indoor day, Kitty. I'm sure you'll get some things done. We used to have a cluster of forsythia plants on the corner of our property, but they were huge and unruly and I couldn't keep up with trimming them, so we eventually just cut them down.
It will be nice to have your table back, Gma. Or is this your mom's table? Sleep well.

We are at our gate at the airport. It is almost 5 a.m. Dh just got me a coffee -- it's huge! I'll drink part of it and throw the rest away before boarding. Today will be about traveling home, unpacking, settling back into pre-holiday normalcy!
