Re: Snowflake Sunday
Leucojum vernum, commonly called the spring snowflake, St. Agnes' flower and rarely snowbell, is a species of flowering plant in the family Amaryllidaceae. It is native to central and southern Europe from Belgium to Ukraine. It is considered naturalized in north-western Europe, including Great Britain and parts of Scandinavia, and in the US states of Georgia and Florida. This spring flowering bulbous herbaceous perennial is cultivated as an ornamental for a sunny position. The plant multiplies in favourable conditions to form clumps. Each plant bears a single white flower with greenish marks near the tip of the tepal, on a stem about 10–20 cm (3.9–7.9 in) tall, occasionally more.
Leucojum vernum is cultivated as an ornamental plant for its white flowers in spring. It is described as "easy to grow", either in sun or partial shade, particularly in moist soil and in grass. The species has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Re: Snowflake Sunday
Good morning everyone and happy Sunday!
Helia, I'm sure you're right and you needed extra rest after your busy few weeks and the travelling.
Laura, could you have a new year /epiphany get together with DS and DDIL? That would make it special and as if you're looking forward to the new year,.not backwards at Christmas.
Bama, those Limoges animals sound very pretty, and how nice you were able to pick up some "tips" for the house as well. I'm curious as to why DH has to get up at 3.30 am for work - does he have to travel far? Please don't answer if you'd rather not -I know some people's jobs are rather confidential.
Dogged, I didn't hurt myself on the ice, but it's brought back my anxiety. It all stems from when DDeparted DF HE slipped on ice on Christmas Eve in 2023 and broke her hip, and passed away just over 2 weeks later. Common sense tells me that she was an older lady ( late 80s) but we were very close, and the same thing is unlikely to happen to me, but our brains and minds dont always listen to common sense! But I do feel I'm being ridiculous, especially when I read what all you ladies in the"frozen north" have to deal with regarding snow and ice .
We had what looks like either snow or am extremely hard frost last night, which makes me feel my decision to stay home is sort of justified. And it does give me more time to get the house spiffed up before DH comes.home. With all the work on the spare room, other areas have slipped. But it shouldn't take me too long to get everything back in order.

Re: Snowflake Sunday
◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
Kittykatt, thanks for the start and for this beautiful delicate bulb flower. Good luck with the "I don't know what to do with it" stuff. Making decisions is difficult and demands a lot of energy when dealing with many items. As for staying home, it might be a wise decision if the roads are slippery.
I hope Gma had a nice evening with MrVKM.
We watched the Walt Dinesy Mulan, 1998. We liked it, but we agreed the part with the ladies singing (at the beginning, with the matchmaker lady) were uninteresting.
Another cold morning, small clouds but it should be sunny later. Everybody is home. DS10 is listening to music in his bedroom, I think he needs to be alone a bit, he doesn't want to go back to school tomorrow. He's had a disagreement with a friend he thought was a good friend, he doesn't really have connections with others. He's one of a few "marginalised" kids, he's not into soccer, physical fighting
or insults
. So he talks with another "pariah" sometimes, but apart from that, he's not having great days. He said to me last week : "Mom, now I've come to enjoy sitting in class because it's nicer than the recess time, can you imagine ?"
DS7 is complaining that he's bored. MrNG is working at the desk.
I've peeled a few "winter" veggies (parsnips, carrots, next is kuri squash), I'll cook meat today (pork filet mignon aka tenderloin) but not eating any, which is weird.
TADAs
up a bit late
read news, had bfast with MrNG
thawing pork filet mignon
fed the kids panettone
peeled veggies
emailed complaint to grocery company about missing item in grocery order (bag of carrots)
TODO
cube kuri squash
wash tiny pootatoes for grilling
check the meat recipe, start roasting and cooking
later
handwash stuff
drip-dry handwashed stuff
fold previous lol if dry (not much is dry)
check weekly list of todos
make new list for upcoming week
dinner is burgers and fries - MrNG will cook

Re: Snowflake Sunday
FFB, we're weather twins today! I'm sorry DS10 isn't happy at school. It can be hard for more introverted kids. Of course, falling out with friends (and hopefully reuniting!) is all part of growing up, but that doesn't make it easy. All I can say from an introverted girl's point of view is that it does get easier as you get older and become more confident in yourself. (I'm guessing it's the same for boys?). Hopefully someone who has raised boys will be along soon to give better advice.
I've made progress on my "dont know what to do with" pile - the bin is now fuller and my pile.of donations has grown. I'm going to leave it for now and tackle downstairs, as that is really in need of some TLC.

Re: Snowflake Sunday
It’s a little cloudy here but a lot cooler now that the thunderstorms and hail have moved on. I told dh we’ve been through hail and back, got a chuckle. (Yesterday we got caught in a surprise hailstorm)
Kitty, that plant looks like my birth month flower, Lily of the valley. It’s a shame it doesn’t grow in my region. They’re so delicate and pretty. Dh works four 10 hours shifts so goes in early. I tend to befriend older women and it is easy to fear the same things they do. I worry I will fall though I know it won’t hurt me like it would them. I think helping my mom so much put that fear in me, she would always speak about her worries like they were going to happen. (They never did).
French, I’m so sorry about ds. Growing up has difficult spots. I’ve never had parsnips so bought some this week to try, do you treat it like a carrot? The recipe I saw had bacon wrapped around it and baked, I thought I might need to boil it to soften it some first. They kept it in one piece though and I’m not sure it will fit in my pot. I looked up panettone as I’m not familiar with it and it sounds delicious.
LAnn, I hope you don’t have any ice either. It’s the worst part of winter. Still shorts weather here, had to turn the AC down and throw off a cover.
I haven’t decided what I’m doing with my day so I guess I’m winging it. It’s dh’s last day home on vacation and it’s cloudy. Forgot my list on yesterday’s post so need to retrieve and post it here to remind me what needs doing. Hope you all enjoy your day.
