Re: Raymond West Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Raymond West is a fictional character who appears or is mentioned in several of Agatha Christie's novels and short stories featuring Jane Marple.
He is a well-known author and Miss Marple's nephew. He is not interested in Marple's cases, but in some novels (like A Caribbean Mystery and At Bertram's Hotel) he supports Marple financially. His wife Joan (née Lemprière), an artist, is also sympathetic to Marple.
In The Thirteen Problems (1932), his future wife's name was given as Joyce, not Joan. Raymond's mother was one of three girls, with Marple being the eldest and his mother having another sister. This other sister had a daughter, Raymond's cousin Mabel Denham, who was accused of murdering her husband, Geoffrey (The Thirteen Problems).
Raymond and Joan had two sons, one of whom is named David and works in British Railways. David was able to help his great-aunt solve a mystery regarding a missing corpse by sending her a map of a certain patch of railway (4.50 from Paddington). His other son, Lionel, is a keen stamp collector and has shown Miss Marple every single one, and told her about the rare 1855 Blue Stamp, which helps her solve a case regarding a lost inheritance (Miss Marple's Final Cases and Two Other Stories).
In the novel The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side, Raymond is mentioned, as he engages Miss Knight to stay with Miss Marple, after an attack of bronchitis left her very weak, and Dr Haydock said that she must not go on sleeping alone in the house, with only someone coming in daily. Miss Marple also mentions that when staying with Raymond, she noticed that some of his guests seemed to arrive with quite a quantity of little bottles of pills and tablets, which they take with their food and drink. This gives her the idea that someone might add something to a drink quite openly, without anyone thinking twice about it.

Re: Raymond West Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for another interesting start. In "Nemesis" , Raymond comes to stay with Miss Marple, as his wife throws him out, and they go on a coach tour together, where he helps her solve the.mystery that she has been commissioned y a deceased Jason Rafael (the latter also appear in a Carribbean Mystery). I also remember Miss Marple staring that In the "old days" the doctor would prescribe a bottle.of medicine, which was much better, as one could just pour it down the sink!
But enough of such musings. Today is a free day, and my last one for a while (Saturday is very social this week,.with women's breakfast and DF E's 100th birthday party) . It's also forecast to be dry and the temperature.is supposed to warm.up to 8C, so in theory,.I could do something in my garden.today. However, as the garden doesn't.get.any.sun this time of year,.it's quite possible.the frost and frozen rain could hang around, so there won't.be much to do outside. The same goes.for.a.walk - in theory a good idea,.in practice on there could still be hidden patches.of.blaxk.ice.for the unwary. So, I'll wait and see what actually happens when the sun has come up.
I also need to do housework. Cleaning the kitchen is top of the list, and it would be good to start some deep cleaning and decluttering in there too!
Bama, a white German shepherd sounds beautiful , and it will be interesting to see what Thumper ' DNA test produces. Over here, DNA testing for dogs is becoming more common, partly from interest,.and partly because the insurance companies are charging a lot more to cover some breeds , and, of course, you can't always tell by lookinh!

Re: Raymond West Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Happy New Year ladies. Checking in, it has been a bit. No time for computer.
Restful yet tense break. We spent 2 weeks at father in law and we are on opposite spectrum of current political climate and though we tried so hard not to talk politics, the silence was so heavy it made it uncomfortable.
We slept in, went to movies, did escape room, ate great food but the first 4 nights with son were fun, we even went to a drag brunch which was an interesting experience. Not really our thing but I can check nit off the list. The last 11 with fil were too long. We had unchangeable tickets.

Hit submit too soon.
I woke at 3 am and couldn't go back to sleep.
Dh is off today, was off the first 3 days to use up use it or lose it time. He has been off nearly 3 weeks.
All told it was a lovely Christmas. My poor little Doxie had a pet sitter and a very stressful 2 weeks. But back to normal now.
Sheforums never closed down so I have been posting there so I made my goal page for the year there.
This morning I must unpack from trip, do desk work and pay bills. I need to set up church donations and schedule a trip in February for a weekend. I have PT this morning too and teach this afternoon.

Re: Raymond West Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Nice to see you CL! Glad your break was OK. Sounds like you did some fun stuff even with awkwardness. Did we get the wrong message about the other site closing down? I heard of it from Aflyer, but I haven't seen her in ages. I guess we're settled here now.
I hope you got some good sleep last night, trissie. Oh - I've read A Caribbean Mystery, so maybe I've met Raymond Brown and Miss Marple. I'm just starting my day - and you're finishing yours.
Kitty, did you get outside today? Be careful of the ice. It was icy here yesterday and sometimes it wasn't visible. I saw my friend S2 slip and fall down on the road as we were going to K's home. She was fine; she's very tough. (S2 is my marathon running friend.)
Who has been visiting your feeder, L Ann? Dinner at your place sounds great!
There is nothing on my calendar today! Whee!! But lots of things I need to do. My New Year card is almost ready; I just need dh to edit the short blurb on the back. If any of you would like to receive it, just let me know! Just be forewarned that I'm slow getting these out.
I do better when I write out general goals for the day.
Main Goals for Today:
1. Exercise - it's mild enough I can jog outside. Dh just finished his run and said the path by the river is clear.
2. WF; I'm doing my groceries piecemeal this week. *sigh*
3. NY card - get blurb edited, hopefully, and get the cards ordered
4. Clean sheets on the bed
5. Sheet laundry (We do have extra sets but my favorite set is currently on the bed.)
6. Med. appointment phone calls 1 2 3
7. Walgreens - pick up script
8. Dinner: panko salmon, potatoes? and asparagus (or other fresh veggie)
9. Something fun - knitting or reading or both
10. Communication: email trustee, text SS - coffee date, text JK - coffee date, text S - check in with her

Re: Raymond West Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Morning all. Interesting topic.
White shepherd? Is that beau? Love his name too. My Casper is white too. Finally 3 years old bundle of samoyed. Wow he was hard but he's a big teddy bear now.
I have too many errands for a tired week today. I have to stop at the vet this morning too. Stella again. That didn't go too well last time I brought her there. Learned my lesson. Gloves and even a hat of some sort. She's off again. I ran out of her food cause ds was feeding it to all of them while we were away. My expensive one. She needs something again to help. Her bladder. And I need to stop for a prescription for me and find out what it is from the gc. Gas in car. Bible study. Then I'm taking h with me for a drive to the next town for a check up on the car. Our session chatting in the car and lunch while we're there waiting... that will be nice. Just won't be home much. I should visit mom later too.
Deciding between hurry through routines or soak. Yesterday I had a mis step in the start of my day. Almost the first box I picked doing receiving. The whole truck was on pallets this time so easy unload but all disorganized. I stepped on the pallet and hooked my foot wrong and fell. No big deal. Didn't hurt myself. But I felt it last night after the kids left. So I think a soak is in order.
Kids came last night. Supper and gift exchange. Finally on Chinese new year? Or is that the epiphany day? Not that the date mattered.. I had a bit of an uncoordinated evening. I had just bought the last snow globe for ddil. While I was carrying my laundry basket of their gifts I lost that bag off the edge and dropped it. It shattered. Water and glitter everywhere. I'll get the other one today.
