Inspector(later Superintendent )Slack is the senior officer in charge of many cases. He has been described as "a man who has never striven more to contradict his name". Miss Marple describes him as having the "same personality as that of a diesel engine, most unappealing, but efficient".
When Slack first met Miss Marple, her strange personality and her quirky methods caused him to think she was "batty", and thus he took no notice of her. Dogged, when I had my allotment, and all the onions were ready at once, I used to braid them I told g strings, which I then hung up somewhere cool and dark. I used my garage. I don't know what your basement is lockers are like, but could you hang a stei g there if there's space? Answering your question about my garden, when it's completely.frozen there's really.nithing to do, except pick up the off errant leaf that's been blown onto it.
Times like yesterday when lots has thawed but there are still frozen patches, I did a tiny bit of trimming on the dividing hedge between my garden and Dnextdoorneighbour C. (Technically it's C's hedge, but she's quite happy for me to keep my side in order. Ibe discovered over the years that if you tackle a leylandii hedge little and often with hand shears, not I ly do you keep the height and width I Der co trol, but the texture becomes es fare.morw.demse.amd closely knit, Al osteopath like yew, which IMHO is more aesthetically pleasing). I also cit done some old flower stalks that had gone soggy -I leave the seed heads for the birds, bit once they collapse their nose good to anyone. I also did some dead heading - pansies , cyclamen and periwinkle are flowering and my hellebores are in bud - and I keep an eye on my roses and cut off any leaves that are showing signs of black spots or rust. Enough to give me an hour or so.of pottering and fresh air. 
DF E enjoyed her party, and it was good to see all the generations of her large extended family. I. As you can imagine, I was very tired by the evening, after speaking to so many people, especially those who were so.ewjat deaf!
Today is church this morning, and then I am hoping for a quiet afternoon!

Doggedly, I didn't realise it was a 10 pound bag of onions. Here the four people eat 1 kg a week approximately, counting DS10 as not eating much vegetable, but also, considering the midday meals are cooked elsewhere for 3 of us and no one eats onions for breakfast (we eat continental breakfasts). Onions are always an added ingredient to a recipe, not the main ingredient. So 1kg makes 40 individual meals. I'm sure if I cooked according to my taste I would use more onions in every dish. But even with 1 kg for 20 meals, a person eating 2 meals a day means 1 kg for 10 days... I can see that your stash will last a long time. (Fun to do those maths while drinking my breakfast tea). A cellar or dry storage area can work, if you check on the onions maybe once a week.
helia I don't think I ever did jigsaw sudoku but I've seen people do them. It looks like you need to have different strategies than with regular sudoku... You make me want to try it.
kitkat WTG getting rid of shoes, and especially WYG convincing people to make decisions about them.
L.Ann You make me want to spend time with my kitchen binder to review the recipes in them and organize them, maybe with an online tool. Or just, at least type them so they look nice and clean. You seem very organized cooking-wise.
trissie I checked the book online, it looks like a fun read. As for me I've been stealing books from DS10 : Wings of Fire, they are series of books for teens, easy to read and enjoyable (so far, I'm at #10) when too tired at bedtime for "serious" books.

Yesterday I wanted to make a list of house-cleaning things that are needed, but in truth everywhere needs attention, so I will do bits here and there. MrNG decluttered DS10's bedroom during the school break but the piles and boxes of unwanted items are still in the entrance, "greeting" people when they walk in... very depressing when coming back from work at 6.15pm. I need to reduce the piles of stuff, even if it's not recycled properly. And there are books to donate.
I need to finish de-Christmassing the house, too.

rain (IMHO, gar5 preferable to ice).
I don't know if you have Nextdoor.in France, but if so, could you advertise all the decluttered stuff from DS 10's room in the "free" section and mark it "collection only"? I've had quite a lot of success getting rid of decluttered "stuff" this way, even things that I thought no one could possibly want!
Church was ... interesting. One of the older ladies had one of her "turns" this morning during the sermon. (This happens from time to time, usually when her medics needs adjusting). Fortunately we have a couple of nurses in our congregation and some other ladies are first aid trained,.so they knew how to help her, and by the paramedics arrived less than 10 minutes later, she was recovering. They checked her over and decided she didn't need to go to hospital, but she's going g to make an appointment with her doctor tomorrow.
Back home now, and DH and I are having coffee. I've folded and PA laundry, and the chicken for lunch is in the oven.

FFB, yes, you need different strategies with jigsaw sudokus and each puzzle is a different shape; some strategies are shape specific, so they can differ from puzzle to puzzle, which is why I enjoy them. I like variety. I do X jigsaw sudokus; the X adds another variable, which honestly, makes them easier in a way -- but also more interesting. So, I only do the very hard ones that say "advanced solving techniques required". I have a specific series I'm using. Sounds like you have plenty to do for an indoor afternoon (though maybe not fun things).

It is 26F and there are some very light flurries. We got a little more snow yesterday. We are visiting a church this morning, the one dd30 and M are currently attending. It's about 25? minutes away, so I'm not sure it's a great fit. BUT their going is something. Plus, my co-worker LH also attends there. We need to be otd in 1 hour. Dh is still out on his 10 mile run. I'll try to go for a much shorter run this afternoon before CG2. It will have warmed up a whole 5 degrees F.

kittykatt, sorry for an unwanted event at church. Good thing there were people to help and it's not too serious. Most of the decluttered stuff is "unappealing". There are books, and I intend to bring them, later today, to a "book box" : we have those a lot in Brittany, and I've seen some in other places, like cupboard with a glass door and you bring books you won't use anymore in exchange for books you want to read. Some people bring many books, some borrow many books . I usually keep the ones I borrow 
Children books tend to disappear quickly, so I think we will make some families happy even if the book we bring aren't worth much.
helia I just tried getting started on an X jigsaw sudoku, very interesting, I managed to fill a few blanks, althouogh I have no idea what level the grid is, it's so new to me. I'll try and find a good website to work on them during lunchbreaks at work. Good for the brain. I hope your social day is enjoyable, and please be careful not to jog on icy paths.

We enjoyed lunch, MrNG had made a galette des rois, kings' pie, for dessert - the one where a small porcelain figure is hidden inside and you get to wear a crown if you find it in your piece of pie. The pie is so huge we only ate half of it, so no one gets to be king or queen yet.
Then put an armchair (folding chair from the camping stuff) near the pellet stove and enjoyed the last chapter of Wings of Fire #10 on my e-reader. I borrowed #11 yesterday at the library, paper version, I may start reading it at bedtime tonight, yay!
DS10 went with Dneighbour R-- 11yo, to play with him, DS7 is asking me to come see the lego house he's inventing. After that, some cleaning, maybe room by room.
