Tulips are spring-blooming perennial herbaceous bulbiferous geophytes in the Tulipa genus. Their flowers are usually large, showy, and brightly coloured, generally red, orange, pink, yellow, or white. They often have a different coloured blotch at the base of the tepals, internally.

There are about 75 species, and these are divided among four subgenera. The name "tulip" is thought to be derived from a Persian word for turban, which it may have been thought to resemble by those who discovered it. Tulips were originally found in a band stretching from Southern Europe to Central Asia, but since the seventeenth century have become widely naturalised and cultivated.. In their natural state, they are adapted to steppes and mountainous areas with temperate climates. Flowering in the spring, they become dormant in the summer once the flowers and leaves die back, emerging above ground as a shoot from the underground bulb in early spring.

Growing wild over much of the Near East and Central Asia, tulips had probably been cultivated in Persia from the 10th century. By the 15th century, tulips were among the most prized flowers; becoming the symbol of the later Ottomans. Tulips were cultivated in Byzantine Constantinople as early as 1055 but they did not come to the attention of Northern Europeans until the sixteenth century, when Northern European diplomats to the Ottoman court observed and reported on them. They were rapidly introduced into Northern Europe and became the subject of an investment bubble during the Dutch tulip mania of 1634–1637. Tulips were frequently depicted in Dutch Golden Age paintings, and have become associated with the Netherlands, the major producer for world markets, ever since.

In the seventeenth-century Netherlands, during the time of the tulip mania, an infection of tulip bulbs by the tulip breaking virus created variegated patterns in the tulip flowers that were much admired and valued. While truly broken tulips are not cultivated anymore, the closest available specimens today are part of the group known as the Rembrandts – so named because Rembrandt painted some of the most admired breaks of his time.

Breeding programmes have produced thousands of hybrid and cultivars in addition to the original species (known in horticulture as botanical tulips). They are popular throughout the world, both as ornamental garden plants and as cut flowers.

Good morning, everyone, and happy Tuesday!

I disappeared yesterday, as I spent lots of time trying g to sort out my meds at the new health centre. They like to prescribe 2 months worth instead of 3 months worth at a time. Okaaaay, I can manage that, but one of my medications.is produced in a sealed box with 3 months worth (it's not controlled or anything, it's just how it's produced) and the system appears unable to cope, so it's just dropped off the list. I've messaged about this, but I can see interaction with a human is almost certainly going to be necessary, to sort out the mess that the IT system has made. Fortunately, I saw this coming, and stocked up with everything before the health centre move, so time is on my side. :D

I did make progress on the house yesterday and upstairs is now clean and tidy. I didn't get to the tops of the kitchen cupboards, as Freddie decided that's where he wanted to sleep yesterday afternoon, and I value my fingers! The rain also stopped for long enough so I went for a walk - just round the estate, but it's still fresh air and daylight. :D

Today, DH is WFH, I have nothing on the calendar so will also be at home :D , and the forecast is, once again, for rain  ..But, on the plus side, we may reach 13 C / 55F again, so definitely no ice. :D

◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕

Kittykatt, wtg stocking up on meds in anticipation of possible trouble. I hope the rain and DH home don't rob you of too much freedom.

Grey here but no rain. MrNG is in training all week in a large city 1 hour from home (+ traffic jams), which makes the week rhythm harder on all of us.
At payroll. Boss is making my job complicated, but sometimes, perhaps, unwillingly, who can tell. Anyway, not an easy day.

TADAs
Morning rushed routine, left kids in front of school 10 mns before opening of school gate
Commute, payroll
Tried to do my best
Lunch break, 5 mns walk in fresh air

TODOs
More payroll : 4,5 more hours to go
Commute back, fetch DS7
Prep dinner, oversee homework
Dinner and then bedtime, reading stories to my children before maybe collapsing into bed

Wishing you and myself joyful things in your day

Good morning
Thanks for the start, Kittykatt. Your med-system sounds crazy and stressful. WTG on anticipating this mess... Hope it's sorted out quickly!
It is difficult to get humans on the line sometimes...
FFly hope the day gets better for you.

A gloomy day here:
errands are planned so I don't know how much I'll be able to post.

Starting with my morning stuff - then the drop offs:)
Hope to see you soon.

☀️ Good morning! Sending sunshine to anyone in need of some. 😎

Kittykatt, I hope the pharmacy gets straightened out quickly. Good for you planning ahead so you’re not doing without while they work on it. I do prefer the simpler times without all the high tech. I thought it was supposed to make lives easier lol. Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate running water, refrigeration, online shopping too lol.

FFB, I’m sorry your day isn’t going well with the boss, and dh’s schedule not helping. I hope it gets better.

Smart of you to stock up on the med before the change, Kitty. Will you get out for a walk in the mild temps?
Happy errands, kitkat. Hoping for joy in your day to drive away the gloom. It's gloomy here too - dark and cloudy.
Sorry about the boss making things complicated, FFB. Wishing joy in your day as well!!
We're all here together doing the daily basics again, Bama! Glad you enjoyed the frost! :)

Yesterday felt pretty productive for me. I got in a short jog outside in the sunshine! I also did all the clothes laundry, though a lot of it still needs to be folded and p/a. I arranged a dinner date with friend AC and a coffee date with friend JK, whom I haven't spoken to much since we left the previous church 3 years ago. I also did the payroll GGT spreadsheet and planned menus and procured groceries for the week. The Kroger order is arriving today. I used leftovers for dinner but made a salad and fresh tomato sauce to go with them. I got a little clarity on the issue with the trustee by communicating with the lawyer's office. Hoping and praying she engages this week.

Today: Tuesday is pretty social. I'm hosting the KS2J get together this morning at 10:15ish. Then, we're hosting the Tuesday dinner crew tonight, although that crew has shrunk so much that it's only us, M, and 1 of our daughters tonight. Payroll GGT emails need to be sent out, I have a couple snail mail bills to pay, and laundry needs to be folded and put away. Exercise - another short jog or a long walk. Temps are mild even though it's gray outside. Getting to items on my brain dump list would be great too.

I keep wanting to get back to WW meetings but I forget to set my alarm. Or, this morning, I set my alarm but forgot that I had wanted to get back to the meeting. LOL! It's at 9 a.m. in a town about 30 minutes away.

Good morning, all. I am up betimes with a whole day of possibilities open to me. What a feeling!

Thank you for the floral start, Kittykatt. LOL @ Freddie banning cleaning of cupboard tops. That is why sweeping and floor washing stop at the bathroom door in my apartment. It might disturb Herself.
It's great that you headed off delays with your prescriptions by stocking up.

Sorry for the frustrating day at payroll, FrenchFly.

Good morning, kitkat.

Frost can be beautiful. I'm glad that you are enjoying it, Bama.

helia, I'm glad that you are getting clarity on the issue with the trustee. Enjoy your socials!

I am at the end of Page 1, and I want to dig into my course a little on my next break.

Tuesday
Cleaned up after dog
Breakfast for Germane.
Put on a pot of coffee
