Re: Trampoline Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
What is Trampoline?
Trampoline is a breathtaking sport that can see athletes bounce over 8 metres in the air while performing a series of complex twists and somersaults. As it is a highly technical sport, trampolinists are required to have an exceptional sense of balance and absolute precision.
By whom, where and when was Trampoline invented?
The first modern trampoline was built by George Nissen and Larry Griswold around 1934 at the University of Iowa. It was initially used to train tumblers and astronauts, and as a training tool to develop and hone acrobatic skills for other sports such as diving, gymnastics and freestyle skiing. People enjoyed the sensation so much, they began to trampoline for sheer fun, and it became popular in its own right.
Nissen and Griswold envisaged trampolines being used in a variety of new games, although they never grabbed the public’s imagination. In one, called Spaceball, two teams of two on a single trampoline with specially constructed end walls attempted to propel a ball through a middle wall, to hit a target on the other side’s end wall.
What are the rules of Trampoline?
Trampoline gymnastics utilises four main categories of score: execution, difficulty, horizontal displacement and time of flight.
World-class competitions include two different routines in the qualifying competition that feature 10 judged elements. In the finals, the gymnasts perform one routine which can be the same or different from qualifying.
The gymnasts also receive an execution score based on how well each element is performed, a time of flight score that calculates the amount of time the gymnast spends in the air and a horizontal displacement score which is based off the gymnast’s ability to stay in the middle of the trampoline.
What are the different jumps in Trampoline?
Gymnasts perform both forward and backward flipping elements in Olympic trampoline. Several comment elements include a Triffus (triple front somersault with at least a half twist) and a Miller (a double back flip with three twists).
Trampoline and the Olympics
Trampolining made its first appearance at the 2000 Games in Sydney, with men’s and women’s competitions. The number of events (two) has remained unchanged since then.
Best Trampoline gymnasts to watch
Since Trampoline was first included on the programme of the Olympic Games Sydney 2000, Chinese athletes have claimed 14 of the 36 medals available.
Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Zhu Xueying of People's Republic of China and Canada’s Rosie MacLennan. Including the rising Chinese star Cao Yunzhu, who claimed silver at the 2021 World Championships at the age of 17.
The winner at the Worlds was two-time Olympic medallist Bryony Page from Great Britain. The 31-year-old has also won a stage in this year’s World Cup, as have Doihata Chisato of Japan and Cheyenne Sarah Webster of the USA, and she also won the Trampoline European Championships in 2022.
After the retirement of Chinese four-time Olympic medallist Dong Dong, Nishioka Ryusei of Japan and Diogo Abreu of Portugal have performed well in the 2022 World Cup series in the men’s competition - particularly the 18-year-old Japanese star who won silver at the 2021 World Championship.
The current world champion Yan Langyu of People’s Republic of China and the Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist Dylan Schmidt of New Zealand are also ones to keep a close eye on.

On a minor note, Bryony Page has two olympic medals for jumping on trampoline and she studied paleontology with her dissertation being on how dinosaurs might have communicated through sound.)

Re: Trampoline Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for another sporting start. I have to admit I'd never heard of Bryony Page, or any of the others, but then I am not a *sporty " person! I did watch the opening and closing ceremonies when Britain hosted the Olympics, but that's it. So it's going to be an extremely educational week for me. And it's good to broaden one's horizons!
DH has very impressed with my work on the kitchen yesterday - I'd done things that would have an immediate impact - so I'll see if I can get a bit more done in there today. I also need to empty the filing cabinet in the spare room/ office when DH finishes work, so it's ready for when MJ comes tomorrow. The sitting room also needs its weekly clean , and I think the forecast is for rain again (I'm trying to be grateful that it isn't snow!) so it's a good opportunity to make progress with the house. I just need to find the motivation!
Matilda was a very good girl last night, are all her supper and spent most of the night on the pillow wrapped round my head. So, she's back in the lap of luxury where she belongs!
And she's had her morning snack, so all is well in her little world.

Re: Trampoline Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
That's a new one for me, trissie. I didn't realize that the trampoline was an Olympic sport!
WTG on the kitchen progress, Kitty! Sounds like you've got plenty of things going on today.
Good morning L Ann! Did you walk outside? Is your feeder busy? Ours is. Dh commented on how noisy the finches are.
I've id-ed a mystery bird I've seen regularly at the feeder. They're female goldfinches!
The sun is shining! It has warmed up to 2*F (-16.7C); it was 1*F when I first got up. I wonder how cold it is in Gma's state - or our Canadian friends' areas? This is not the coldest day this week; Friday and Saturday are forecast to be much colder here.
And. . . dh has a limit; he has decided NOT to go for a run outside this morning.
One great thing about the weather here today - it is currently sunny with blue skies - not a cloud in sight at the moment!! It's supposed to cloud up again this afternoon.
Yesterday: I got sorely distracted by messages with an interesting friend and then an episode of Miss Marple. I think our week of Agatha Christie whetted my appetite. I don't think I should watch them all as I think I'd enjoy reading them better. Also, an episode is really long, like a full length movie - 1.5 hours.
Today: Rinse and repeat - try to get done the things I didn't do yesterday. I have the KS2J get together this morning. This afternoon, I need to get groceries. Other things to do: work on decluttering, make some DPCs, do some laundry, write. Dinner will be tacos and green salad.
Next:
- menu plan and groc. list
- make Kroger order
- some qt
Later:
- s2s and self care
- squeegee and wipe down shower
- reclaim kitchen
- 10 - 12-ish KS2J get together
- work on knitting while there
- lunch
- make the bed
- go walk at the gym? Or the mall??
- write 1 hour
- progress on NY cards
- make 1 DPC
- text B
- text CG - would she like a visitor?
- text SS re: volunteer ESL class; I think I'll help every 2 weeks for now
- refill bird feeder
- get wood for evening fire
- dinner: tacos,green salad
- after dinner clean up
- duolingo
- update health apps: MFP, WW, Finch
- read for fun
TaDas!
- up; weighed self - moved a bit down
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website

Re: Trampoline Tuesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning / good afternoon, L.Ann and Helia!
L.Ann, thank you for the nudge - I need to give my sitting room furniture a good polish too.
Helia, I find the Miss Marple series starring Joan Hickson are especially close to the books, and apparently Agatha Christie met a young Joan Hickson, and said she would be a perfect Miss Marple when she was older!
Today is busy, but at home. I had a WhatsApp first thing from Handyman MJ, who wants to come at 9 am tomorrow to fix the cabinet, and he's also very interested in my kitchen cupboard project. But he understandably wants to see everything in person before he can give definite recommendations. So I need to tidy up the kitchen as much as I can, and get the spare room/ office ready for MJ to work in as soon as DH finishes up there today, so I don't have a huge rush tomorrow!
