Good night, Dogged, and good afternoon, FFB!

FFB, I hope you're having at least a tolerable day at payroll. (Id like to wish you a good day, of course, but that might be too unrealistic!)

Sweet dreams, Dogged!

Bama, I'm not really qualified to make recommendations for winter underwear either, as although London is more or less on the same latitude as Alaska, due to the Gulf Stream we have much milder temperatures (lots of rain instead of snow, although further north does get a lot.more.snow). But I do have some very good thermal vests - they're made of some kind of microfibre and have a long sleeved version as well as traditional vest! The key, I think, is layering, although I'm sure people like Gma, who regularly experience Extreme Cold, will be able to give .uch better advice.

It's been a productive morning. MJ has been and fixed the cabinet, and we had a long chat (and lots of measuring!) about my plans for the kitchen cupboard. Freddie had to be removed first, of course, from his perch on the worktop! It's not souch that he would definitely swipe, it's just that I can't guarantee he wouldn't. . MJ is thrilled to have something to really get his teeth into, and that needs thinking about, especially as it's an indoor job. ( He used to fix military helicopters, so has a wide variety of skills.) Much of his work is outside, which, of course is on hold ATM - he said to me today that he needs to build up the indoor side of his business, so he's not reliant on the weather so much. He's hoping to come and do the job on Thursday of next week, so long as he can get all the parts he needs . ( We agreed he would do the buying of doors etc, as that way we stand a much better chance of them being the right size!)

DF CW 's kitchen engineers arrived, and I got them settled in, and,.once MJ had gone I decided to walk to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription, as the rain had eased.

Having lunch now, then I think I'll make a start on cleaning the kitchen.

Bama, I don't really wear long underwear, TBH, except when I ski. I wear black long underwear/ leggings under my ski pants - not sure what it is made of though. -- And I can't find them; just looked. Sometimes, I wear fleecy pants under my ski pants. Those are much warmer. As kitkat said, Gma might have some good ideas. Dh has fleece-lined jeans which he says are very warm. They're more bulky, obviously, but he's slim and trim and doesn't care. On my top, I never wear long underwear; in extreme cold, I have a small collection of thick 100% wool (not cashmere) sweaters that I wear layered with mock turtle necks that are a blend, I think.
Sounds like a good meeting with MJ, Kitty. You're getting new kitchen cupboards? Sounds like a wonderful home improvement project!
Waving to FFB! πŸ‘‹ I hope payroll is going well.
I hope the meeting went well and rationality prevailed, trissie.
Oh dear on the leg cramps at night, Doggedly. I used to get those pretty badly but not so much anymore.
kitkat, we're getting snow now. I guess it's moving your direction. I almost exclusively wear smartwool socks in the winter.

I looked at the news headlines first thing this morning. THAT was a mistake. It just increased my sense of anxiety. Trying to move on.

Today: It is warm! It is 20F right now and is forecast to get up to around freezing. It is also snowing. . . I might go for a jog at the park this afternoon when temps are the highest and the snow should be finished. A lightly snowy path is not a problem. It might slow me down a bit, that's all -- but I don't really care how fast I go. An icy path - THAT is a different thing. I'll just keep plugging along on the same list: laundry, NY cards, writing, guest beds, DPCs. I am meeting AC (payroll friend) at 4 pm on campus for an early dinner. That's SUPER early but what she wanted to do. Tonight, dh and I are puppy sitting.

Hello, KitKat, Helia and L.Ann!

I hope the appointments go smoothly, KitKat especially with snow on the way! :o

Helia, it's just one kitchen cupboard and a drawer I'm having rebuilt, as the new washing machine is deeper than the old one, and is causing some issues with the adjacent cupboard. I'm also using this as the perfect excuse to get rid of the " magic corner unit". I'm case you're not familiar, there's a link to something similar to ours below:
https://kitchenwarehouseltd.com/accesso ... hir-silver
In theory they sound wonderful, as it utilises that difficult corner space. However, reality is very different, as the whole thing is prone to collapse if one as much as breathes on it incorrectly. Also, items are prone to falling off over the edge of the baskets, and getting stuck in the very difficult to reach spot right at the back of the cupboard.

So, my idea is to take out the magic corner unit (it's just screwed in place), move the cupboard door along, (we'll need a new, slightly narrower door), and inside the cupboard, just have a shelf. There remains, of course, the issue of the corner. My (possibly somewhat radical!) idea for that is to just block off the difficult to reach space with a partition, leaving a slightly smaller rectangular shaped cupboard, where all the space is easily accessible. This will help stop us hanging onto things "just in case"! :D I was also encouraged when I read a somewhat reactionary but wise saying: "Just because the space exists, doesn't mean you *have* to use it!" More mundanely, I'm hoping that this will mean that my days of crawling the floor to get something out that's right at the back of the cupboard are over! :D

MJ is going to build a new frame inside the cupboard to support everything. I get the distinct impression that he's really pleased to have a project that needs brain power (rather than just painting something or putting together something straightforward like a table!).

Fortunately, it should be relatively easy to get new replacement cupboard doors, as the kitchen was just a standard one, nothing bespoke, and several websites appear to make the doors. I've also requested a new door for the cupboard under the sink, which is showing a lot of wear after over 20 years of being splashed!

When it's all done, I'll post pictures, which will hopefully explain it all a bit better. :D

L.Ann, I've got an alpaca cardigan, and its sooo warm and cosy! :D

I'm procrastinating on cleaning the kitchen, but I've spent the time sorting out the house insurance, so that's done for another year. :D Now I really am going to clean the kitchen!!

Good morning. Thanks so much for all of the very helpful responses. I believe I am overthinking it. It’s a cruise to Alaska, not a sub zero hike and camping in a tent. I will look up the items mentioned and add to cart. (:

I have a corner cabinet that loses everything so I haven’t used it since we moved here 26 years ago. It still has my wedding items in it untouched lol. Who thinks of this stuff.

I’m trying to wake up so will be back later when I find some energy, and breakfast.

Hi, Bama, enjoy your Alaskan cruise! When are you going? My fav long underwear is brand cuddl-dudz (I think I spelled it right). I like the microfiber, smooth, especially for leggings. There is also a thermal textured long underwear, but I don't like the feel of it as much. It might be warmer.
My NEW FAV warm sox is alpaca. They are so warm, soft, and not wool-scratchy. The Farm Cabin alpaca farm is about 20 miles from me. They have a store they call the Warm Fuzzy store. They have become sort-of friends, as I have been there several times and bought lots! for gifts, as my son says they are the BEST for keeping his feet warm when hunting. I finally bought a pair for myself when I bought for everyone else this year for Christmas. I think they mail out product, but not sure. I have never checked on line. Alpaca sox are kind of spendy - $25-$35 a pair. I will buy myself another pair next time I go to the Warm Fuzzy store, so I can have 2. They are machine washable (cold), but line dry (drape over towel bar). And it feels like they will last a long time.
Keeping feet warm is very important for keeping warm. Scheels also carries alpaca sox. They are all gray, Warm Fuzzy has some pretty ones.
I'm guessing that fleece clothing (think sweatshirts) with a long sleeve t-neck underneath, and matching pants may be adequate, if you also take a warmly lined wind proof jacket. A quilted vest would make another layer under the jacket. I just realized that I haven't been wearing mine this year! mine is down, and one winter I wore it under my jacket every time I went anywhere. This year I have been doing wool sweaters (over long sleeve t-necks.) Just because, no special reason, other than they have been handy and I forgot about the vest.
My Mom went on al Alaskan Cruise in the summer after her 80th birthday in late May. She had a wonderful time! I hope you do too!

It's towards the end of the day in Europe. I wonder how trissie's day went?

Sooo.... the meeting did not go well. Nothing was resolved and nothing likely will be resolved and I am washing my hands of it. I strictly said that whatever redoing they want, they need to do it themselves, I no longer care. The chairman of the board is on my side, though, because he sees that I was the one who actually upheld their end of the bargain and everybody else did nothing and now complains. I think that some people are so mad exactly for that reason - they don't like that they failed at their job and somehow that's my fault that they did not do anything earlier? Yeah, nope.

Anyway, this is one of the days I am glad that I continue to have two cell phones, a work one and a private one. I turned my work one off when leaving the office to stop myself from checking emails.

You have quite a list for your repairperson, kittykatt!
Bama, naps can really throw a havoc in one's sleep patterns :-(
Frenchie, if you're reading this, I have a cool movie suggestion for you - Cool runnings! It's on Disney and it's a perfect family movie about the right values and a good start of the winter olympics season!

TaDas
- morning madness
- stripped bed and delay-started a load before leaving for work
- very long and outside of that horrendous meeting a productive day at work
- pick up DBD from school
- see her leave for scout session (she's proudly now taking the bus with her friends)
- bit of de-stressing

ToDos
- 50 minutes of work
- 10 minutes of rest
