trissie, with my db I'm pretty sure that the project of making his own starter from scratch is the real attraction, more than the bread!
You are making me want to watch Cool Runnings again. I saw it in the theatre when it came out
I'm glad that your talk went well, though sorry that you got stuck with it while all of the other parents hid behind your skirts.
Bama, I have had momentary thoughts of doing sourdough that dissipated before I got up from my chair, LOL.
It really is great to have someone in your life that you can talk about anything with, and it's something that I think many people lack at some points in their lives. I know that I have. This week, he called me wanting to talk about our Prime Minister's address at Davos, and I wanted to ask him about a claim I had seen that Canada's new northern satellite network will work on quantum entanglement which seemed impossible to me. Sure enough, when I read the page to him, he explained that they are using quantum entanglement for data encryption, not for controlling the satellites. My db has good friends, but none of them are interested in science so he can save up interesting thoughts and discoveries for me, who appreciates having an interpreter for subjects that I don't know a lot about, LOL.
WTG, Kittykatt.
My goal for this week: put on a pound so that helia can lose a pound as weight-loss is a zero sum game. I'm looking at you, cheese croissants.
See you soon, kitkat. Stay warm!
That is a packed schedule, L.Ann. I hope that you get everywhere you need to, when you need to.
Bama, you bring us a ray of warmth in a cold world!
Friday
Cleaned up after dog
Treats/breakfast for dog: all rejected for now
Put on a pot of coffee
Put away dry dishes
Took vitamin
Worked on sorting bag from top of entertainment centre
Looked up how to factory reset tablet with broken screen before putting it in bag to take for electronic recycling
Watered plant. It was strangely resistant to being watered, so after half an hour of sitting in a tray of water, dumped the water and watered it from above.
Gathered clothes for shower
Brushed teeth. Germane is so comfortable where she is, she prefers that I put off my shower for a bit longer
Mixed onion soup and Costco’s fried onions into Greek yoghurt. My db said to add the onion soup mix :”to taste” but right now my mouth tastes like toothpaste. Not adding yoghurt to that.
Germane came out looking for treats and finally ate a small amount of dog food.
Brushed hair
Tried to sign into antiviral software to update phone
First password manager not getting me in
Logged into second password manager: not working
Tried to change password
Decided that washing my hair would be more fun than this.

Re: Figure Skating Friday @ TDD - C&C
Weather report:
we are heading toward -27F (!). It's sunny out there - but really bitter.
I'm back:
No problems with DD: I had to check on her dog.
Thank you for caring:)
Took my pup for an outing: grabbed coffee, took her to Indigo (our big bookstore), then to Canadian Tire. They recognize her by now:)
Stopped at WF on the way...
Debating if I should go to the mall to pick up my order today... and return an item..
(The weekend is supposed to get worse and worse, so I might as well)
I hope LAnn's appt goes well.
Dogged sourdough is VERY rewarding:) You might just enjoy doing it.
Cool Runnings brings back memories of my young kids...
Bama we did sourdough during the pandemic... like millions of others..
FFly best of luck in finding the right job - for both of you
trissie I did not realize you studied in the US. (from your post, the other day)

Re: Figure Skating Friday @ TDD - C&C
kitkat, that's actual! I woke up to -23 (-30.5 C) this morning. We're are the high fo the day, -10 (-23.3 C). I had to make 2 trips out. First one, car was cold, I had on only heavy slacks, no long underwear, and my legs were cold. I did appreciate the heated seat when it warmed eventually! I came home and put on my insulated bibs befoer venturing out the second itme. All is well. Now I think I am in for the duration
The weather forecast lady stood in from of the windchill chart on TV, wearing a slim black SLEEVELESS dress announcing all these cold temperatures, telling people to bundle up!
Oh, and most of our schools are closed today, but a few announced an at-home e-learning day, which they learned how to do during the pandemic.
bama, trissie, I had to chuckle at the frozen braids - as I do remember going swimming at the college pool while in high school, and walking home (we lived close to the college). By the time I got home, whatever hair that I had not inside the jacket or under the hat was indeed frozen!
Started by setting up what I will wear to get to the airplane.
And time for a shower and shampoo so I won't have to wash my hair while there.
Then be diligent about pairing outfits and packing. I have some soup and half a sandwich for supper from the Co-op deli, so there won't be many dishes.

Ugh…. The weather report is not promising. They are calling for 4-8 inches of snow, followed by 2 inches of sleet and topped off by a half an inch of ice. It is then slated to be below freezing for at least a week. So if I disappear on Sunday/Monday we lost power and or the internet. The snow would be fine… even enjoyable… sleet and ice not so much.

Re: Figure Skating Friday @ TDD - C&C
Hello everyone!
Helia, by the time I left for the osteopath, the rain has stopped temporarily, but had been replaced by strong wind
Fortunately I managed to get there and back safely, with no flooded roads. Yet.
Trissie, that Christmas party did sound fun!
Dogged, I'm glad you're able to "put the world to rights" during your conversations with your DBro.
Bama, that's a huge difference in temperatures!
FFB, that's very good news for Mr NG tomorrow!
KitKat, I'm glad everything was well with DD's dog
Gma, you must be looking forward to some Florida sunshine after such bitter cold.
L.Ann, I do hope you keep your power, and I'm glad you survived the doctor's appointment.
Since Ive been home I've cleaned and decluttered one small cupboard, one small drawer and the storage cabinet under the cooker. (I think officially the cabinet is called a "plate warmer", but who in their right mind would want to keep crawling on the floor to retrieve plates?)
It's past my bedtime, so I'm.off to bed now. See everyone tomorrow!

Thinking about tomorrow:
If wet /hail or any other form of precipitation, and / or strong wind -
More work on kitchen cupboards
More work on filing
Have another look at teatowels online
Have another look at fabric for tablecloths online
Order part for handheld hoover
If dry and pleasant -
Maybe a walk and something in my garden?

-27 C is our forecast low for tonight, kitkat, with a windchill of -35. It's a great night to stay inside! Thank you, Germane, for using pee pads.
I'm glad that you are finding ways to stay warm, Gma.
I'm glad that the doctor's appointment wasn't too bad, L.Ann.
LOL, Kittykatt, at least db and I feel as though we have put the world to rights, so that's something.
WTG on clearing out cupboards and cabinets. I'm still working on that last bag from the top of the entertainment centre. I'll get it cleared out eventually. Have a good night!
I am all spiffy clean, having washed my hair. My main goal for tonight is one that I am looking forward to. I have been thawing out a cottage roll from the freezer, so I'll put it in the big slow cooker with as many vegetables as I can fit in it.

Re: Figure Skating Friday @ TDD - C&C
Oh sorry about the forecast for ice, L Ann. Hoping it won't be so bad. Our forecasts have changed slightly for the better. Please be safe!
LOL @ a kitty Freddie Kruger, Doggedly and Kitty! Please - no!
FFB, enjoy the start of your weekend! And I too wish you had a job that you enjoyed. In terms of our Alpine hut tour, we're going somewhere in Switzerland. We've actually done this many times. Dh and 2 of his sisters are trained and experienced mountain climbers. Their family grew up hiking in the Alps every summer. Some of the kids, including dh, eventually augmented the annual hikes with mountain climbing and glacier climbing courses and tours as well. They've continued the hiking tradition over the years with breaks here and there when there were too many small children or family schedules didn't coincide. The last time we did a hut tour, it was a portion of the via ferrata, which was beautiful - but had some anxiety-producing stretches - at least for me. We all had to wear harnesses and clip onto cables for portions of the trail; the youngest nephew was clipped to dh as an added precaution. I don't think this year's route will be like that. I hope not!
I see there's been mention of frozen hair braids! LOL!
Kitkat, Doggedly, and Gma, you are all much colder than we are, which I suspected. Our low is equal to Gma's high temp. We're currently at 1F/ -15F windchill. Fortunately, we live in an area with a lot of trees, so it's not particularly windy. Tonight will be the low point: -10F/ -23F (-30.6C) windchill. But I plan to sleep through it all - and wake up to a balmy -8F at 8 am.
It's all relative.
Good luck finishing your packing and getting ready for your trip to warmer Florida, Gma!
Glad the talk went well, trissie. Sounds like you helped many families in the chapter.
It was a very cold - but very beautiful day with lots of winter sunshine!
It was not a very productive day. Coffee with JK ended up being almost 4 hours.
We had a lot to talk about. It was good; I think we'll get together again. I came home, ate lunch, and then packed up things to meet the girls at the gym at 3:40ish. I skipped jogging to swim with dd27. I did 4 laps, and then dd27 was done. We were hanging out in the warm pool when dd30 showed up. We eventually went and sat in the hot tub for about 10 minutes. It was less about exercise and more about seeing my girls, though my arms are tired so maybe I did something.
Now it is after 6 pm. I think dh and I are going out to dinner.
Before dinner, I'm going to:
- reply to friend B re: a time to get together
- copy exams over to start exam prep
- check in again with friend J and her dd14's procedure; they're home now.
