Irene Karlijn "Ireen" Wüst (born 1 April 1986) is a Dutch former long track speed skater. Wüst became the most successful speed skating Olympian ever by achieving at least one gold medal in each of five consecutive Winter Olympic appearances. Wüst is the second athlete (after Britain's Steve Redgrave) to win a gold medal at five consecutive Olympics, Summer or Winter, and the first to do so in individual events.

Wüst is both the youngest Dutch Olympic gold medalist and the oldest speed skating gold medalist in the history of the Winter Games. At the age of nineteen, on 12 February 2006, she won the gold medal at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games 3000 metre event; four years later at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games she won the 1500 metre event; at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games she won two gold and three silver medals, making her the most decorated athlete at the Sochi Games. Following her record sixth speed skating gold medal in the 1500 metres and bronze in the team pursuit event at the 2022 Winter Olympics she has won a record thirteen Olympic medals, more than any other speed skater, making her the most successful athlete of the Netherlands at the Olympics. She is also a seven-time world allround champion, a fifteen-time world single distance champion, and a five-time European allround champion. In 2014, she was elected by Reuters as the Sportswoman of the World.

I plead guilty on this case - we have a world class speed skater, Martina Sablikova, but I never paid much attention to her competitors, so I did not about Ireen. Every day you learn something new!

Thank you for starting us off, trissie. I can picture Ireen Wüst getting lots of skating practice on frozen canals in the Netherlands!

I put on a pot of rice to cook so I'll have it ready for breakfast. Once it's done, I'll head to bed.

Good morning Trissie and thank you for another icy start!

Sleep well,.Dogged!

DH has left for the office, so the house is quiet. The forecast is for "dry with sunny spells", but it's currently raining. I would like a walk if the rain does ease,.although I suspect it will be too soggy to douch in my garden. I've slept on a bit as I woke in the night with a headache, but that seems to have mostly subsided now, thank goodness. (Reminder to self: sip water throughout the day, not all at once!) I need to clean the kitchen today and ensure it's tidy. MJ is supposed to be coming tomorrow to work on the cupboard so long as everything he has order has arrived . I haven't heard anything, so I'm going to assume he's coming until I hear anything to the contrary. And if he doesn't come tomorrow my work won't be wasted as the kitchen needs cleaning and we still have too much stuff in it that needs decluttering!

Other than that, I need to look on the garage for paint for a small project I'm planning for when DH will be out in Saturday. If I can't find what I need, there's still time to order some. :D Oh, and I need to measure again under the spare room bed to ensure the wooden box on wheels I have my eye on to corral DH's bags, back packs there will fit!

Good morning and thanks for another start!
trissie you provide lots of info:) - I never heard of Ireen... (Truthfully, speed skating is not something I paid much attention to... Figure skating is a different matter)
Kittykatt - I think we got your sunshine - although I doubt you'd want to share our temperatures...
Dogged sweet dreams:)

I'm up after a 7,5 hour sleep(!). Fitbit did not want to believe it  I needed it. Girls did not leave until about 9 last night - I was exhausted.

Today is another day. Let's see what I can do with it.
I need to go to gym- I think I'll wait till 4 p.m class (I prefer the instructor).
Dpup will need an outing - likely indoors . Maybe I can get DH to come with us to the mall: he needs shoes...
Fridge cleaning! (I must)
Dinner? - likely stir fry
Laundry - a couple of loads

Starting with the mornings stuff:)

Good morning LAnn - you posted while I was typing:)

Ooh, yes, her name is definitely familiar to me, trissie! I appreciate a nod to the Netherlands here! Speedskating is one of a very small number of sports the Dutch do well in. Have a good day at payroll.
Sleep well, Doggedly. See you soon!
Has the rain eased enough for a walk today, Kitty?
So glad you got decent sleep, kitkat!
WTG getting in a mile walk inside already, L Ann.

I always think of cardinals as small birds until I see them at my bird feeder. They're a lot larger than our most ubiquitous visitor, the house finch. A female cardinal is currently perched at the feeder, taking her time with her breakfast. She is puffed up against the cold - so she also looks larger than she actually is. It's 11*F right now. The weather forecast says we'll start hitting the 20s for our highs on Sunday.

Yesterday was a bit of a wash for me. It was very social (WW meeting, lunch with K, S2, and J, and then hosting dinner for 7 people) AND it involved a lot of driving as I went to the WW meeting in another town. Because of weather and maybe time of day and an accident on the interstate, I spent 1:45 driving. For a 30 minute meeting. Hosting meant I had to get ingredients for dinner from WF and do a bit of spiffing before the dinner guests arrived. I did get one exam draft ready to send out and I also made a grocery order that should arrive this morning.

Today, I hope to do a rinse and repeat of the same list I've been posting for weeks: progress on NY cards, exam prep, and writing. Exercise. Clean sheets on the MBR bed and make up the guest beds again. I also have a mammogram appointment this afternoon.

We already have wood for an evening fire. I brought it in yesterday, but dinner guests left too late.

I went and did other things. . .

I'm rethinking my day -- I will bundle all my outings. The clinic for the mammogram isn't too far from the gym. So, I'll stay home until 2:55, when I'll leave to get my mammogram @ 3:15 and then head to the gym afterward. I should be home by 5:30 in time to start cooking dinner.

Next:
- some qt
- back exercises
- s2s and self care

Done:
- reclaimed kitchen
- scheduled out the day -- and promptly didn't follow it
- payroll: messages --> update exit text graphic and share with 1 S
- payroll: messages w/ 1 teacher - my question re: her class
- ordered more coffee pods + cinnamon tea
- put away groceries
- stripped MBR bed
- load of dark sheets + clothes washing
