Choose a Superpower Thursday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

Some Superpowers you can choose today:

- Ability to change yourself & your mind
- Not taking things personally
- Not needing to prove you're right
- Careful selection of all relationships
- Staying calm
- Being alone without being lonely
- Being ok with being uncomfortable
- Thinking for oneself

Or perhaps you have one already not on the list! Choose, and use wisely for good!

Good morning

I've made 2 trips to the school this morning because DD14 forgot her water bottle and a permission slip that is due today.

When I arrived back home the second time the driveway was blocked by delivery truck with DS17 mattress.

I would guess that my superpower is having grit and perseverance. I don't give up easily.
I asked AI what my super power is and it said -
* Hyper-observant analysis (like a low-key version of Sherlock Holmes or Reed Richards)
* Relentless truth-seeking (you didn't just accept surface explanations—you dug deeper)
* Empathetic problem-solving (this question almost certainly comes from caring about someone's real health situation)

We have a funeral of our VDFriend Mary this afternoon. I'll have to watch the time to make sure we are back in time to get DD14 from school. Then take DD14 to city for a 5:30 appointment with her trusted counselor. That means I will spend a good part of 7 hours away from home today. Every one of my stay-at-home-loving cells are screaming NOOOOOOO. But it is what it is.
Stay curious. Challenge assumptions. Success loves persistence.
When life gets difficult, learn to sing & dance in the rain.

From ChatGPT re my super power:

"A lot of people are curious. Fewer actually do something with it. You don’t just wonder—you ask, you dig, you cross time and place. One minute you’re thinking about how you look in a caricature at the NY Public Library, the next you’re tracing 19th-century records in Illinois or figuring out modern school districts in Tennessee. That’s not random—that’s pattern-finding."

this came up when I ask google
" high level empathy, rapid learning, creative problem-solving, or the ability to make others feel special. "

Today I got a couple of vids. to go on my y.t. channel one in 20 min. of my last knitting project and cozy corner. The other of outside on a foggy day of branches I cut up yesterday. The branches one goes up tomorrow. Just as I went out there a squirrel jumped from the fence to the tree so I labeled it Jump!

Yes, we must always use our powers for good.
I definitely have the one, "Thinking for yourself". Ohboy, do I have that one.
I have the one, "Being alone without feeling lonely". (born and bred in the Alone Briar Patch and thrive)
Will think about others.

Twins', I hope neighbor Ruby has an easy surgery time today and recuperates well.

Answers and input on yesterday's mentions here
TIPPING
yes, you tip hairdressers, although I didn't think of nice gifts at end of year - maybe that's the same
I'm married to a very serious tipper, so that's one of the things I've delegated for a quarter century. Maybe it does make sense to let the person in the family who is most interested in workplaces be the main decision maker about tips.... ..?
SONIC - lucylee, I don't know what distinction you're making? Don't know Sonic. Does your Sonic wait on cars like a '60's car hop, I'm thinking?

SHEETS - I just know by fabrics, prints, so I know all about the sheet by eye. Even how old, is it fraying anywhere, etc. Kept in little hall closet. I make a Sharpie mark at one side of a fitted sheet so that I can remember to reverse it, so maybe it won't become so worn.

REWARDS - I have a problem with rewarding myself tangibly. Cost, space, guilt, etc. Finally, I will buy myself small things. ebay used to be that outlet for me but it has changed somewhat from little private auction items such as vintage. And again, do I have space.
I have no problem rewarding myself with time for a video such as tutorial, lecture. But I will think, for instance, I really want the person's book but won't buy it.

Yesterday up at Oh-Dark-Thirty with ds.
Talking with him all morning until he dropped me home at noon. We agree on a lot, have disagreement on some. We find it very easy to discuss municipal government since we each have our own expertise on that, of course. I think he's very astute on that. We each surprised each other with police knowledge, even though that has not been directly in our own paths. He was grabbing his phone to verify some points. Remembering one thing differently, we both turned out to be right.

Missed you guys
Anyway, hours of appt, obviously. The effects were also obvious, but thankfully didn't hit me hard until I was home with HRH. Digestive upset was the worst this time. Never really felt well the rest of the day and went to bed early.
OPTIMISM from nurse who thinks I may not have to do this after April. I would just love to think only twice more.

I do tip hairdressers and then an artisan card at holidays with cash. Same for massage therapist, although I consider him a professional and in theory shouldn't tip when I purchase a round of massages. When we got a newspaper everyday I sent something to the carrier, now, for once a week, I don't. Cleaning lady gets an extra week's pay at holidays...

Sometimes I tip delivery people, sometimes not. I don't keep much cash here and, although dh does, most of his cash is bigger bills.

I've been down the ChatGPT rabbit hole on genealogy research this a.m. It pointed me to the archive for the county of Alabama that's on my mind. Someone keeps reattaching an additional son of my William White (1742-1831) and yesterday it occurred to be that he coud be a son. I've never found any mention of him in the east tn counties where William lived. But I see some possible connections and I was sifting through the possibilities in my head trying to get to sleep last night.

Dh worked out earlier, walked the dog, and went out for lunch. He's bowling tonight too. I have my workout at two and I texted my massage therapist. He said on Tuesday that he had 4:30 today available and I texted that I'd take it if he was still open.

There are three places to sleep in this house. Our king size sheets are in our bathroom in a chest. Sheets for the queen bed upstairs and the twin bed in my workroom are in the linen closet upstairs, along with abandoned towels, beach towels and other stuff. And queen sheets are white and twin sheets are patterned.

Harriet, I would love for you to be done with this particular part of treatment. It's been a long road for you.

Word of the day EPIC!
I found some music on you tube that has epic in the title to use as back ground music for...
drum roll cleaning! LOL!

I did sweep and wiped down most of my counters
did up my dishes
from last night.
Mixed up some dog treats.
They are baking now.

So next is the other small part of the counter.

Good morning! (Or at least it is as I start this -- I'm waiting for DC to message me they're done at school; they're taking an exam.)

Been watching the Olympics this morning -- first curling, now women's hockey. There's a player on the hockey team from another suburb near here. The other week, I was cleaning out the chest where I keep my offseason clothes (and some things I just can't part with) and found a t-shirt from when the US women's team was on tour before their first Olympics and gave it to DD.

Tipping -- I think things have gotten worse since Covid. It seems to me like that's when tipping started increasing -- you couldn't sit down in a restaurant, but you still wanted to tip the staff because they weren't suddenly earning a full wage. And then the credit card machines started adding the tipping option, and it just grew. And the machines keep suggesting a larger percentage. As for the hairdresser, the custom around here at least, when I was young was that you tipped the hairdresser but not the owner -- the owner could set her own prices, but the other hairdressers had no control and also had to pay the owner their cut. But these days, there doesn't seem to be any such distinction.

Sheets -- we've all got different colors/patterns, and they go in different drawers (old house -- linen cupboard has drawers on the bottom).

Still no word from DC. I'm going to get some lunch -- that'll make them message me! ;)
