The Scottish wildcat (Felis silvestris silvestris) also known as the Highland Tiger, is stealthy and rugged amd prowls around select Scottish woods, spending its time hunting and protecting its territory. This highly endangered species needs remote woodland to survive.

The Scottish wildcat is a small feline with brown mottled fur and markings similar, but not identical, to that of a domestic tabby. It has a distinctive thick, blunt tail with a black tip and rings.

Not to be confused with: domestic cats. The wildcat is stockier and more muscular. It has longer legs and a larger, flatter head with ears that stick out to the side. Fur markings can also help identification: wildcats do not have white feet or stomachs, and do not have a line down their tails, unlike tabby cats.

Scottish wildcats mainly feed on rabbits and small rodents such as voles. They will also take hares and a variety of bird species.
Skilled stealth hunters, they have excellent sight, hearing and sense of smell, as well as highly sensitive whiskers. They will stalk their prey and pounce after a patient wait. Wildcats are mainly crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk) but they may hunt during the day if undisturbed.

Scottish wildcats are largely solitary but are more sociable during the mating season, which occurs from January to March. During this period males will search out females to mate with.

Wildcats produce a litter of between one and eight kittens after a gestation period of around two and a half months.

Mothers care for their kittens until they reach independence at around six months old. Juveniles leave to establish their own territories. Females reach sexual maturity at 12 months and males at around 9 months.

Wildcats are now only found in the Scottish Highlands. They don’t usually occur higher than 650 metres above sea level, and prefer to live and hunt in areas of dense cover such as woodland edges.

The folkloric creature Cat Sith in Scottish mythology is thought to be inspired by wildcats. It is a witch or fairy disguised as a large cat which prowls the Scottish Highlands.

kittykatt, have you ever encountered a scottish wildcat?
Frenchie, you asked yesterday - I have a box of seeds for the veggie patch from last year(s), so it needs to be checked BEFORE I go out shopping for more :-)

This cold is really taking me out... I shall see if I will be presentable enough to go to the office tomorrow. If not, well, I will find something to work on at home - the plan was to start working on a report that requires me to cooperate with people, but I have other things on back burner that I can work on solitary.

◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕

Kittykatt, thanks for the start. I didn't know there were wildcats that were unique to Scotland. I just googled a bit, the Scottish APCA has projects of breeding wildcats and the cats that were released seem to have kittens in the wild afterwards. Very interesting. I hope you have a good time at church and a relaxing Sunday afterwards.

Re the Olympics suits, trissie it is interesting that you noted the Mongolian team too, MrNG and I remarked to each other how smart their outfits looked. I just checked, there are lots of news websites giving details about the Mongolian design. Now I want to learn more about other suits and stylists! I hope you can fight back the cold (( )).

Doggedly of course we made sure your kids understood they were not expected to ski the same way the Olympic athletes do ! The family movie yesterday was Cool Runnings, the kids were amazed at the speed of the bobsled, we will probably try some sledge or tobogganing (depending on budget) so maybe I should reassure them before we go there !

Gma nice to know you see MrVKM on a regular basiss these days !

Greetings to all, I hope to BBL but not sure !

Today is not too cloudy, there may be sun later. No plans. MrNG says he wants to not work today. I hope he can manage it. The kids are using a game of very tiny plastic frogs and making Olympics sports evenst : high jump, long jump, "battles', and DS10 is marking points and scores on a sheet of paper. So far, no fights.

TADAs
up late
breakfast together
cuop, checked news
Halfway through lunch prep
took pics of the frog Olympics the kids are playing

TODOs
finish lunch prep : peel potatoes, cube kuri squash, + bake something ?
finish morning routine
fold yesterday's lol if dry
later
things from weekly list
prepare mail to counterattack Boss's manipulative schemes
more online shopping for secondhand ski clothes ( I still need waterproof gloves, and so does DS10, and we need ski boots)
really relax, I hope
make list for next week

Hello, Trissie, FFB and Kitkat!

Trissie, I've never encountered a Scottish wildcat in real life, and having lived with DDeparted Trifle, who was a Cyprus cat and essentially feral, ( although very loving in her own way) I'm not sure I would want a face to face encounter with one! WFH sounds a good compromise for tomorrow.

FFB, yes the wildcat breeding programmes are being successful. The big problem is to keep the wildcat and domestic cat populations separate, as they will quite happily interbreed with each other. :!: Frog Olympics sounds fun - glad that brotherly relationships are peaceful so far.

KitKat, so long as DPup keeps her door skills to shutting the freezer door, and *not* opening it, you'll be fine!

Back from church. DF E is having lunch out with some other friends, so we didn't meet for coffee today. Probably jist as well asy.attemtion was required yet again to sort out issues with the after church coffees. I .*think* it's done now.

Laundry is folded and PA and the chicken is in the cven. Having coffee with DH now.
