Family Day, Presidents Day, Washington's Birthday Monday

Post by Harriet »

On this holiday in Canada, today is a day to celebrate Family.

What do you plan that especially includes family appreciation?
Nancy regularly calls her sister - do you have a regular family call you make?
Do you sometimes play games with family, like Mystery? Jigsaws? TV Jeopardy?
Do you schedule family meals, or just happen to run into each other while eating?

I saw an idea to make George Washington's favorite meal, which is very simple. Hoecakes or Johnny Cakes - kind of like pancakes but including cornmeal - were probably enjoyed with honey. One spur-of-the-moment recipe was just to substitute cornmeal for approximately one-fourth to one-third of your regular favorite pancake's dry mixture.

Good morning (I think!) Harriet! Trying to do the maths, I think you must be up either very early or very late! A day to celebrate family is a nice idea, especially as family comes in many types and sizes! :D

We're having pancakes for supper tonight - a day early. We *should* be having them tomorrow for Shrove Tuesday, but DH is out at his choral society then, so it makes sense to have them this evening, especially as he is chief pancake chef! BTW, our pancakes are the thin ones (similar to crêpes) and traditionally eaten with lemon juice squeezed over then and sprinkled with sugar .

yesterday we had a new helper - oh my goodness I played therapist all day -it was so intense - she didn't do anything for mom yesterday as she wanted to watch what we did. She also kept talking to me and ignored mom. I will say conversation around mom is good but oh my gosh I haven't been trauma dumped like this. I have always had souls talk to me about their heartbreak or worries - dd younger gets that all the time too but this was more than I could handle bc it was all day. I never met her before. I feel for her but it was a lot.

she didn't want to clean her as it "wasn't" necessary. we wash her down each morning as she wears pull ups at night. dd did it all. the women. I did the afternoon and early evening and had to ask her to put on mom's pants.

when she left dd older, dh, and I just looked at each other and say "oh my gosh!"

Even today we all said we will have to recoup from yesterday. We told the company that we don't want her again. Not that she wasn't nice but oh my gosh we did all the work, we paid attention to mom and I was shocked that she trauma dumped all day. We laughed today out of shock. There has to be something to learn from this experience. ;)

from now on if we can't have our usual people on the weekends then we will do it on our own. dh has agreed to help me during the week if we can't get someone we know.

I think something is going on with mom physically as she is more confused than usual. We will keep an eye on that

its a new day! :D :D :D

Also waving to KittyKatt, Harriet and bw2!

I slept in until 8, I really need to be up earlier. I think I'd sleep better. It feels like it's hard to get to sleep on Sunday nights and it may be that I am sleeping later on Saturday and Sunday a.m.

I'm supposed to meet dfriend V at box office today to change our tickets to the next Broadway show - they will be out of town on the Saturday so we'll change to Wednesday p.m. That's at noon, so I'll have a little time to kill before my 2 p.m. workout. Might run by the library for a bit.

First up is a shower...

Wow, bw2, sounds like a real issue, glad she won't be coming back. She needs to be working alongside you and keeping her own problems to herself. I can promise her you have enough of your own without her contribution...

Hi!

I'm awake. I feel like I have very little to do today. At one point yesterday all of the pots/pans/large utensils were done, but then I made supper. Now there are some plates and bowls. Dh uses a bowl when he has chili.

There is curling on TV and today at least one guy is coming over to see the garage. The same guy that didn't come on Saturday or Sunday.

We are having leftovers tonight.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.

I'm operating in robot mode while pretending that I am not overwhelmed. Went to a doctor appt with DS17 this morning and received some information that is going to take a bit for me to process.

We are home for an hour and then leave for appt in the city for DH. If time allows, I will stop by Sam's and get new card made. Also go by health food store and buy some organic sweet potatoes & elephant garlic to plant in raised bed. Doubtful if i can fit it in, but if we are good on time I will go by tractor supply place and see what variety of onion and potatoes they have to plant. I will be watching the clock closely in order to make it back in time to get DD14 from school.

While I was cooking breakfast, DH and I teamed up to scrub 5lbs of potatoes and get them into the instant pot. Having ingredients ready to eat makes meal prep a cazillion times easier.

Hello, all!

This is my third try to post -- the first two attempts have led to me getting sucked into the Internet. Perhaps the ADHD meds are not doing their job today.

DH is home today, while DC has classes, so actually, DH isn't home, because he has driven DC to school. Afterwards, he's going to grab DD and go out grocery shopping for me. Oh, goodness, Kittykatt, your mention of Shrove Tuesday reminds me that I need to add paczki (Polish doughnuts) to DH's list.

The weekend consisted of DH and I going to a wake Friday afternoon and stopping out for dinner afterwards before going home. I need to take more long drives with DH; we had some good conversation. Saturday, he had to proctor testing, so we didn't go to the funeral. I spent a chunk of the day working on the grocery list, though I couldn't drag my butt to check the list against what we have. Yesterday was church, watching Olympics, playing a game of Ticket to Ride: Italy in honor of the Olympics (I won!), schlepping the kids to the west side for a party (thankfully the host saw to getting them home), our usual Sunday night Chinese dinner -- though with drinks, and then I finally checked the shopping list against the house.

Goodness, blessed, that "helper" certainly sounds less than helpful! I hope you don't get her again.

Now watching women's hockey (USA vs. Sweden); the US just scored to make it 2-0. Had something going on outside: ambulance, fire truck, and command car parked out front of our house and the neighbor's. Kept an eye out to see if something was up with our next-door neighbors or the ones across the street but did not see anything before all three vehicles drove off. I hope everything was OK.

I have clothes to wash that need to be rewashed, but that will have to wait until the groceries are done -- I'm out of fabric softener. I hope they haven't gotten too stinky. I guess, lacking wash to do (or at least the ability to do it), I should get to filing some papers.

(Oh, goodness, two quick goals have made it 4-0!)
