Marsh mallow (Althaea officinalis) is a hardy perennial herb native to Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa, historically used for food and medicine. It features soft, velvety gray-green leaves, tall stems (up to 150 cm), and delicate pink flowers from midsummer to early autumn. . Thriving in moist, damp soil, it is found in salt marshes, riverbanks, and gardens, and is excellent .for attracting pollinators.

The roots contain a slimy soothing sap (mucilage) and were historically used since ancient Egyptian time to create the original, medicinal version of the marshmallow confection, often mixed with honey. This was used to treat sore throats, bronchitis, and inflamed membranes.

Marsh Mallow has several culiinary uses - the young leaves and flowers are edible and can be added to salads, while roots can be boiled and fried.

Good morning everyone and happy Monday!

Stay safe in the storm, L.Ann!

KitKat, that sounds like a very good day.

Good to "see"you, Gma.

I hope you enjoyed your belated birthday celebrations, Helia. The cake sounds delicious! On a more mundane note, I use Barkeeper's friend to remove.mineral buildup from toilets. Bleach is good at taking care of any residual staining, but NEVER at the same time, of course!

Dogged, WTG with working internet and successful grocery shopping.

I finished another seam on my tablecloth yesterday and then crashed. So ... I still need to post my list for the week. There's lots of little things that need to be done today, so I need to attend to that first!

Today has turned out to be a pleasantly mild 13C , and dry. So far.

No walk for me yet, as I have to wait in for the postman , but I've had a nice time in my garden, a good chat with Dnextdoorneighbour C, and even had my coffee out there again. I'm hoping to get a walk in later, but now it's time for the housework.

Edited to update: postman has just called, so I'm going for my walk now..

Good morning Kittykatt!
Thanks for another fine start! Sounds like a nice day there?
We have another shade of grey... Not too cold but, unfortunately, windy - minus 10 C windchill.
Do you sew or embroider? (I saw your post about the tablecloth)

Today:
WHB
one outing with pup (likely a big store)
one with DH (medical)
also - need to cook (I wish I had LAnn's mealplan

Starting MR

Thanks Kitty! We've tried liquid bleach in the toilet, but since there's a lot of water in our toilets and the stain is under water, I found it not very effective. Maybe I need to let it sit longer? I did not know there was a plant: marsh mallow. So interesting as I associate that name only with the candy.
We're weather twins, kitkat. Our windchill is reported to be -11.67 C -- but there's not much wind here. We're a light gray, and the sun might peek out later today.

Last night, my birthday celebrations were very enjoyable! The cake was awesome. I think I'll post a pic later. It was a lemon strawberry cake; dd27 made lemon curd and the icing had mascarpone cheese in it. There were also lots of fresh strawberries in it. It was SO delicious! Speeches were nice too.

I have a low key day, which means I need to be more disciplined so I don't waste it. I have a payroll meeting at 1 pm. I'll join on zoom, unless AC says I must be present in person. (With my new role, I'll start taking more leadership in the bi-weekly teacher meetings.) I also need to know what is on my midterm test and have a practice test ready for my students tomorrow. Other things: decluttering (always on the list), exercise, a grocery order or a trip to the grocery store. Writing and reading would also be great!

Dh is traveling to California for work again this afternoon. He was just in San Francisco at an academic conference for 5 days last week and tried to get out of the meetings tomorrow in Santa Barbara - but was told no. He's taking the red eye back Tuesday night and will arrive ~ 5 a.m. on Wednesday. Wednesday evening, he'll be out giving an exam. This all means less cooking for me this week as I'll be on my own for dinner 3 nights.

Morning all! We only got a couple of inches so it isn’t too bad and we haven’t lost power. I meant to tell you yesterday, helian, have you tried barkeepers friend? It is the best thing I have found. The liquid version is best so you can get it where you want. For toilets you need to put it in and let it sit for awhile. It works best in tub and shower walls when it sits a bit too.

Glad you didn't lose power, L Ann. OK - both you AND Kitty recommended barkeepers, so I'm going to order some next. Are DD33 and Little Bit both having a snow day?
