Re: Tansy Tuesday
Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) is an aromatic plant of disturbed ground, rough grasslands, riverbanks and roadside verges. It has fern-like foliage and yellow flower heads that appear in clusters from July to October. It is a composite flower, so the flower heads are made up of lots of tiny flowers called 'disc florets', but no outer 'ray florets'. It has a long history of use for medicinal purposes and was cultivated by the Ancient Greeks. Now, many forms are available as decorative garden varieties, attracting a wide range of insects.
The leaves of Tansy alternate up the length of its reddish stem. Each leaf is divided into many leaflets, which are finely toothed, giving them a fern-like appearance. The yellow flower heads (consisting of lots of tiny flowers) look like small, rounded buttons and cluster together.
Tansy is found throughout the UK, but scarcer in the north of Scotland.
Tansy leaves were traditionally eaten at Easter to help kill off the worms that the diet of fish at the time caused. They were quite bitter, so were mixed with eggs, milk and flour in a kind of pancake or omelette.
Tansy is the main foodplant of the rare Tansy Beetle, now found at only two places in the UK.

Re: Tansy Tuesday
Good morning, everyone, and happy Tuesday!
Today I have to be up and OTD early for Matilda's appointment for her boosters. I also need to remember that she needs a new prescription for her flea control, and to pick up hers and Freddie's food. Fortunately, she is usually reasonably well behaved!

Re: Tansy Tuesday
Thank you for starting us off, Kittykatt. I have heard of tansy, but didn't know anything about it. Now I know that if I am offered "tansy beetle" for my next life, my answer must be "no". I don't like bitter.
Be good at the vet, Matilda!
I have Germane's pork stew in the slow cooker, and am heading to bed.

Sleep well, Dogged!
Back from the vet. Matilda loves going for the social side, meeting everyone and exploring, but she does not like being examined (which, of course, is the whole reason for going!) Fortunately, she doesn't bite or scratch, but just glares her disapproval at the microchip scanner. She was pretty good with heart, ears, eyes etc, but refused to open her mouth , so I ended up losing her jaws apart so the vet could have a good look inside. But on the plus side, for once she was good about sitting on the scales, lulling us into a false sense of security, before deciding to decline the injection by insisting in standing in such a way that her scruff disappeared, so there was nothing for the vet to get hold of. All the time glaring at the vet as if to say, 'That thing isn't coming anywhere near me!"
Fortunately the vet was both unfazed and resourceful, so Matilda had the injection with minimum of fuss in her back leg instead. Fortunately, the vet adores her and loves her "expressive face". She normally looks very sweet and appealing, but can produce a very expressive scowl when she feels the occasion warrants it!
I'm now having a late breakfast, Freddie has had his walk and we're sharing some Greek yogurt. Then, a walk and some garden time are.on the agenda before I start the housework.

Re: Tansy Tuesday
Good morning Kittykatt! Tansy sounds familiar but I can't think of seeing it... will need to look it up.
Yay for Matilda! What kind of cat is she? I only had tabbies in my past...
It sounds like you got the warmer weather if you are planning a jog, helia. I came in before my pup... It is sunnny, windy, and cold. (12 F with a windchill of 1 F
) And I thought spring was coming...
Nothing wrong with breakfast for dinner:)
Tuesday...
I need to make up for yesterday's missed WHB. There is bloodwork to do. Gym in the evening.
Starting with MR - then I'll get that bloodwork done.
See you soon
