Re: Thyme Thursday
Thyme- (Thymus vulgaris) is a powerful expectorant and antiseptic herb that is often used in infections of the respiratory and digestive tracts. It gets its name from the Greek word thumus meaning bravery.
In the Medieval days of jousting, young maidens would embroider a bee over a sprig of thyme, as a symbol of energy and bravery, on the scarves they presented to their champion. This was also appropriate in another way as bees enjoy thyme, which makes wonderful honey.
Thyme has been much in use for centuries due to its many virtues; it can be used to expel worms in children, used externally it will relieve bites and stings and also relieve sciatica and rheumatic aches and pains. The herb can also be placed beneath pillows to aid sleep and ward off nightmares. Modern research has even concluded that thyme (with its volatile oil) can act as a tonic and help counter the effects of aging. An infusion of thyme taken three cups daily will alleviate a cold – make sure that the essential (volatile oil) doesn’t escape, i.e. if made in a cup put a saucer over the cup until cool enough to drink or make it in a pot.
In the kitchen, Thyme is a common component of the bouquet garni, and of herbes de Provence. Thyme is sold both fresh and dried. While summer-seasonal, fresh greenhouse thyme is often available year-round. The fresh form is more flavourful but also less convenient; storage life is rarely more than a week. However, the fresh form can last many months if carefully frozen, and thyme retains its flavour on drying better than many other herbs.

Re: Thyme Thursday
Happy church and lunch Kitty!
G'morning L Ann. Are you out on a walk right now?
It is sunny - but chilly, 13F (-10.6C). No wind - so no windchill. It's beautiful outside!!
Today: Thursdays have become my most scheduled day of the week with class, my work out with AS, and now the addition of a weekly payroll CA meeting. Every other week, I help SS with her Vol ESL class - and this is the week. The Vol. ESL class is across town, so I need to leave before 6. I get home from my work out around 5. I have less than an hour to pull dinner together, eat with dh (if he comes home this early), and do clean up. I think that's not really possible. . . but I'll do my best. Dh may do most of the clean up - or I'll finish my part after the ESL class. I'll try to get the squash for dinner diced before the AC mtg; I get home from payroll class around 1:30, which gives me an hour for lunch and whatever else - like dinner prep.
11-1 payroll: teach AR D5
2:30 - 3:30 payroll: AC mtg
4-5 work out with AS
6:15 - 7:15 Vol. ESL class
I slept 9 hours last night. I was tired.
I'm watching the weather forecast for our time in Austin, TX. Ironically, it looks like it will be a very stormy weekend. LOL! I guess we'll enjoy our friends more than the nature, though I was hoping for a good hike or two.
Next:
- some qt
- payroll: finish the midterm test
- payroll: prep for AR D5 (can also do this while Ss are taking the test)

Re: Thyme Thursday
Good morning Kittykatt Thanks for the start. I did not know about thyme's healing properties...
helia - what kind of workout are you planning
LAnn hope your knee is OK?
Woke up late (went to bed late).
Gym is planned for the afternoon. I should be able to focus on the house for most of the day.
Will start with MR

Re: Thyme Thursday
My leg is better…. Not exactly right…. The muscle that runs up the back of my leg is still sore. Hopefully slightly longer walks. I talked to my neighbor. His son is a lineman for the electric company. He was at the top of a 40 ft pole and it broke. He was extremely lucky because the pole hit a tree 3 ft from the ground so he didn’t get smashed by the pole. He somehow escaped with fractures in his back and pelvis that should heal without surgery.

Re: Thyme Thursday
Kittykatt, thanks for the education on herbs, and especially thyme. The things I take for granted have such a rich history.
Helia, I hope you and dh are catching up on your rest and don’t get caught up in any bad weather. You’ve reminded me I need to plant some bulbs today in advance of rain this weekend.
LAnn, how scary for your neighbor’s son. I’m glad you’re not any worse.
I’m up and attem. I did start filling a box with donations yesterday so the hope is to keep going today. The problem is I keep thinking I can sell it all online. We have a local women only auction but they want stuff cheap, like $1 or so, it takes time to photo, type out each listing, post, monitor, arrange meetups, etc. so I really think I’m better off just donating. Ok, talked myself into it, lol. Sorta. I’ll keep my Animal Crossing monopoly game for now, can store at moms.
Done:
Up!
Kinda got new scale working, plus app - not sure I like it yet
Spot cleaned foyer
Pets fed, watered
Litter scooped
Counters wiped down
Roast slow cooking on stove
Eating breakfast
♥ Wake each day expecting good things to happen! ♥
