Re: Self Heal Saturday
Selfheal (Prunella vulgaris) is a low-growing, perennial creeping herb with paired oval leaves, that likes the short turf of grasslands, roadside verges or even lawns. Its clusters of violet flowers appear in dense, oblong clusters at the top of its stems in summer. Its purple-tinged seed head remains after flowering.
Selfheal can be seen creeping through the short turf of a grassland or the uncut grass of a woodland clearing or roadside verge; it can even pop up in lawns that haven't been treated with chemicals. Its clusters of violet flowers appear from June to October and provide a nectar source for bees and wasps.
As its common name suggests, selfheal has a long tradition of being used in herbal medicine for everything from stopping bleeding and healing wounds, to treating heart disease and sore throats.

◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
Kittykatt, thanks for the start, I love to learn about plants and herbs, it seems I missed some interesting ones this week.
Back from our ski trip (and also visit to InLaws trip, for one lunch together, totally uninteresting). The kids learnt a lot in three lessons of one hour, they are amazing. MrNG and I tried to keep up, but my legs are all sore, and my knees not up to the task. We had to do breaks and rotate supervision. Yesterday morning they went for one last session while I put things away and loaded the car, then did the first part of the driving back home. Do I need to say that we grownups had to nap every skiing day ? We bought the half-day passes instead of the whole day, and it was exactly what we needed. The kids did some sledging in the afternoon while we sat and watched.
We arrived yesterday night after 9.30pm and just unloaded all the bags in the house, brushed teeth and went to bed.
A lot of things to do today and tomorrow, and on Monday kids are back to school and grown-ups are back to work.
TODO
tea, eat something
unload the food and groceries
start first load of laundry

Re: Self Heal Saturday
Good morning everyone and happy Saturday!
Thank you all so much for your kind, wise and supportive comments and advice yesterday. It is so wonderful to have a safe space among friends.

Welcome back, FFB! I'm glad you all had a wonderful holiday and a lovely time together as a family.
Yesterday was a good day - we had 16 C and sun in the morning, so t shirt weather, and I had a good time in my garden while waiting for MJ to come. Then it started raining, but it didn't matter as we were inside. MJ quickly installed the shelf in the cupboard, and ingeniously used a piece of cut off board he had in his van to block off the gap leading to the dead space behind the cupboard, so Matilda can no longer get in there. ( He thought it was hilarious , but is perfectly happy to accommodate the foibles of a cat, even though he is a dog person, and has a beautiful perfectly trained chocolate Labrador. But he also has kids, the youngest of whom is a toddler, so I guess he understands cats!
)
After MJ had gone, I wiped out the cupboard and cut the shelf liners I had bought to fit. Progress there has now stalled, as the liner comes on a roll, so has a tendency to curl up. So, I've just weighted them down with my cookery books, and left them overnight, which should bring them into submission.
The rain stopped, so I fed my pots and the bulbs which are flowering. By then the clouds were building.again, so I came back inside and had some time playing (I can't really say "working, as it's such fun
) with my dolls' house.
Today is supposed to be sunny again, so I'm hoping to plant the hellebores I bought on Thursday, and hopefully go for a walk. Some housework would be good, too, and I want to get everything back into that cupboard, if the shelf liners have been flattened into submission!
I dont usually use liners, but I find saucepans tend to leave black marks, unless one is *very* careful when taking them out and putting them back, and life is too short to be constantly scrubbing.

Re: Self Heal Saturday
kittykatt, we are weather twins, it's sunny and clear today. I'm glad your cupboard is taking shape. I probably should cuop.
The kids are up. The laundry washer is working. MrNG decided to clean the inside of the dishwasher, dismembering parts of it. I know better than to discourage someone motivated to clean, so I let him do his thing. The main tasks are : putting things away, storing ski gear, preparing a bag of ski gear to return to my work colleague F-- - and finding a present for him as a thank you - also weekly groceries to buy, so weekly menus to prepare.
MrNG wants to clean and organize the house
- as always when we return from clean and streamlined airbnbs our house looks dirty and cluttered
I'm not sure if he can do a lot before Monday morning, though.
TADAs
tea + breakfast
unload the food and groceries
start first load of laundry
TODOs
unpack the bags, sort, put away or make a pile near the washer
make menus for the week
pick a movie for family movie night
cooking, cooking prep and payroll meals

Re: Self Heal Saturday
FFB, you're very wise to let Mr NG do the cleaning jobs he has decided he wants to do! I think the reason why hotels and air b&bs look so immaculate is because they just hold the (sometimes very luxurious) basics, but very few, if any, of the homely touches ( family photos, books, knick knacks, pebble collections, kids drawings and artwork etc). So, of course, they automatically look more spacious and are easier to keep clean and tidy. And they almost certainly have a "cleaner" who goes in to do her job between each let.
I'm up, Freddie has been walked, and I've had my breakfast. I've texted DF CW to see if her boiler is fixed yet, and if she's still without hot water inviting her to come and use our bathroom for a hot shower (DH is out today, so it's just me at home). And DF PM messaged me a very interesting clip from her paper, headlining the latest large scale epidemic of chocolate theft, and wondering if our neighbours down the road could be involved (they are from Romania, and let's just say they lead an "interesting" lifestyle, and have very strange people calling and also going to their garage at all hours. We do know they were involved in the illicit tobacco trade, but, locally the bottom has fallen out of that "market", as Trading Standards swooped a couple of months ago, with several arrests and lots of permanent shop closures. So, unfortunately, it would not surprise me at all if they, or their associates, have turned to chocolate instead. At least chocolate is less harmful than tobacco!) I try to be pleasant, but keep my interactions to a polite "good morning" or "good afternoon".
And now I've written an essay! I need to do some housework next, and then the garden is calling me.

Morning all! All 4 of my Utah grandkids are good skiers, FFB. I think learning young is the key. Morning kittykatt. I have never heard about large scale chocolate theft. That seems like an interesting contraband. DD33 and I are just hanging out in bed although judging from the bagpipe music coming from her room I am pretty sure she is awake.

Happy Saturday!
We are back too. In the end, the weather was not as bad as we feared. We did have two days of rain (NOT skiing in rain, thank you very much), and rather warm weather the rest of the time, so the snow was pretty heavy and unpredictable after 1pm - so we generally left the slope around 1:30pm. Better not use up the whole 4hour time slot (which was actually cheaper than 3 hours because they had family passes for 4 hours and not for 3) than risk the kids already being tired and making a dangerous mistake! The otherwise smarter idea of starting at 9am did not work with my kids who were still lounging around in their PJs at 9:00 no matter how hard I tried to get them moving, and the earliest we ever got to start was 10:10
Frenchie, which skiing resort did you go to?
kittykatt, is gardening season usually starting this early for you?
L.Ann, hoping DD will have fun at the dance!

Re: Self Heal Saturday
Morning all. Glad you had a great time skiing and the kids did so well at. I fully remember the stiff and sore from using muscles we forgot we had. Half day sounds perfect.
Oohh trissie is home too. Sounds like a good time as well.
Kittykat I'm glad you got the cabinet finished. And blocked the corner from adventure cats. I'm envious of the gardening. It's still trying to snow here.
Lann glad the Hopkins trip is done again.
So that's on my list too. Declutter and clean. I agree hotels usually are clean line with nothing in them that's homey. We stayed in one place with mom coming from Vancouver. Beautiful clean white because it was only barely completed renovation. They hadn't put anything back on the walls yet and no homey touch. The white and lighting almost too bright but nice and fresh and clean. All we needed was a place to sleep.
I had another pure frustration evening the other night. Everything just looks cluttered and messy in here even if it's not that bad. Of course the giant plants I just brought home lol. The fig is growing new leaves. So is the umbrella tree. But I know I just have bad habits of dropping things where I feel like. I don't have mom to tell me to hang up my coat and my towel.... oh wait that's supposed to be me doing the reminding
I need to do some serious decluttering again. Whb. Kitchen. And I want time for music and start a new project and oh wait... groceries. I need to clean out fridges and straighten freezer before that.
We'll see. Too much I want to do for hours in the day. Depends how I feel. My tummy is full of gas and yet this is the first morning in a long time my neck is not on fire from inflammation. My coworker told me what kind of muscle relaxant she uses. I took it over night.
Priority list
Kitchen clean
Straighten fridges and freezer
Laundry
Mop
Vacuum
Spot clean rug and entry rug
Take those recycle bags out(2 now
)
Groceries
Declutter main living room
See if I can start new crochet sweater
Work on music some
Figure out a better reachable place for my current music binders(I use all of it)
Today's tada list
Finish qt
Soak in tub instead of shower
S&s both baths and reboot laundry
Tidy laundry room and master bedroom
Empty and reload dw
Finish tidying kitchen all the way
Declutter island (may get ds to help find homes for some invisible stuff)
