Jean-Pierre Serrier was born in 1934 in 'Montparnasse', a Parisian neighborhood frequented by artists. His parents came from Lorraine in the East of France. His mother, Solange, is a native of Blénod les Toul, a village located about 30 km west of Nancy, France. His father, Louis, was born in Pagny on Meuse, a nearby village.

Serrier is considered a French Surrealist and was known for his paintings of harlequins, landscapes, figural groups, and circuses. He studied at the School of Applied Arts in Paris, France.

Serrier was in the military in Algeria from 1956 to 1958 and produced many thematic works on war. In 1958, back in Paris, he met Pierre Seghers an editor who bought some of his works on 1'Algérie and commissioned 30 more drawings to illustrate his poems. In 1961, he traveled for the first time in the United States. His paintings were exhibited in a Gallery on 57th Street in New York.

He went to Italy in 1963, where he became impressed by the characters in the "Commedia dell'arte". Mr. and Mrs. Garbisch-Chrysler bought several of his paintings and hired him to paint their portraits.

In 1968-1969 he exhibited his works at the gallery in Geneva and received critical acclaim. One of Serrier’s important works is the triptych of Genesis: The Tower of Babel Sodom and Gomorrah, and Eden. In 1976, he was elected as a member of the jury at the Salon d'Automne in Paris.

In 1984, an exhibition at the Kurt Schon, Ltd. Gallery was devoted to his paintings.
Serrier’s paintings were exhibited throughout Europe and the United States. A retrospective of his work was held in New York in 1986. He died in 1989.

Sleep well, Gma! I hope your bread "rose to the occasion"!

Today we have sun and it's supposed to be warmer, so I'm planning to enjoy some time in my garden.. I also need to attend to the house and I think I'll have some extra baking to do this week. And maybe I could look at my monthly list and tackle something there??

I wonder whether kittykatt is having another sleep in? The cats must be doing unspeakable things at night if they are not up at dawn requesting attention! Oh, and there she is, enjoying the sun!
gma, I would love me a good old fashioned beef roast! But neither the kids nor DH are really into beef, so we don't eat much of it in this house (unless it's ground beef, that's a totally different story for them).

Up early, because the two kids who still attend scout have a field trip today. To the ZOO, which they are super excited about! I was not excited about the 6:30am alarm, but I am quite fond of the idea of less bickering today The weather is not as nice as it was during the week, but at least no rain in forecast till tomorrow, so when the garden is calling for aod. we will answer!

never try to hurry yeast bread....
It's 3am, I just delivered 2 loaves to ds porch, hot, placed in a brown paper bag to cool and be protected. They can put them into plastic bags in the morning. It will tase good, but it didn't rise very well, and it was denser than usual, even tho I used less flour and adequate yeast.

Enjoy your time in the garden, Trissie! Matilda did wake me early, (although I have blackout curtains that keep most of the light out, she has worked out how to hook back the edge of one of them,.so the sun come streaming in! ) but today she was easily placated with some biscuits, and I remembered why eye masks were invented, so managed to get back to sleep again without having to get out of bed to adjust the curtain (which she would only hook up again, anyway!)

I'm sure your family will love the bread, Gma. Homemade gifts are always particularly special.

trissie, sorry for the early wake-up on a Saturday. I"m discovering French painters this week I knew Watteau, Toulouse-Lautrec and Matisse already, but not the other ones, so, thank you ladies !

kittykatt, we have sun too ! I'll see you and trissie in the garden ! Some seeds are sprouting. I want to buy a few flower seeds this year.

Gma, your DS will be so thankful (I suppose) for fresh bread delivered at the door for breakfast.

Another week is gone. I'm getting serious about changing jobs. Well, 'seriouser'. Not that the week was worse than the others, it just seems like the right timing, accounting and fiscal season is in progress, and after that they start hiring accountants to train them during summer and fall and use them as slaves from Jan to June the next year.
DS10 has a stufed nose and does asthma-like crises, he woke me up twicce last night. He won't go to the inter-club sports even this morning. DS7 is about to leave for handball, with MrNG who will do the driving for a change, and he will also go to the bakery we love.
Plans for the weekend ? There is the final round of the Rugby Six Nation Tournament, MrNG and I love watching good rugby, but the France / England event is at 9pm tonight, colliding with Family Movie Night - will we do a Family Movie afternoon instead ? It will rain this afternoon.

FrenchFly, I hope that you can get a job where you will be treated better.

I am not really up. Germane woke me up by howling. I am guessing that is the dementia, as nothing was actually wrong. Since we were both up and not eating, I gave her the heart pill with peanut butter, and moved her kibble bowl out of reach on my way back to bed. This way, we don't have wait an hour with no food after the pill. Strategy!

Frenchie, a family movie on a rainy afternoon AND rugby event in the evening for adults sound like perfect relaxing weekend plans! Yikes about the job situation, but crossing my fingers that the right thing comes up - just like your house hunt!
I have never tried sleeping with an eye mask, or earbuds, for the record, kittykatt! I kinda worry that the added sensation of something touching me would mean even less sleep!
gma, yeast and sourdough sometimes have a mind of their own!
Dogged, hoping the rest of the night was less eventful!

The steam generator iron is so much less work when ironing! Why did I wait so long to replace the old one? (so long means 2 or 3 weeks, for the record, but that's like eons when it comes to laundry of six people) I think I got at least half as much more laundry ironed, and better looking, compared to the use of my regular steam iron. Duh!
