Re: Mongolian Horse Monday
The Mongolian horse is the native horse breed of Mongolia. The breed is purported to be largely unchanged since the time of Genghis Khan. Nomads living in the traditional Mongol fashion still hold more than 3 million animals, which outnumber the country's human population.
In Mongolia, the horses live outdoors all year, dealing with temperatures from 30 °C (86 °F) in summer down to −40 °C (−40 °F) in winter, and they graze and search for food on their own. The mare's milk is processed into the national beverage airag. Some animals are slaughtered for meat. Other than that, they serve as riding and transport animals; they are used both for the daily work of the nomads and in horse racing.
Mongolian horses are of a stocky build, with relatively short but strong legs and a large head. They weigh about 500 to 600 lbs. and range in size from 12 to 14 hands (48 to 56 inches, 122 to 142 cm) high.
The mane and tail of the Mongolian horse are very long. Their strands are often used for braiding ropes; the tail hair can be used for violin bows. Mongolian horses have great stamina; although they have small bodies, they can gallop for 10 km without a break. When pulling a cart, a team of four Mongolian horses can draw a load of 4400 lbs for 50–60 km a day. Because the horses are allowed to live much the same as wild horses, they require little in the way of hoof care. The hooves are left untrimmed and unshod, and few farriers are in the country. Mongolian horses have hard, strong hooves and seldom have foot problems.
Mongolian horses were a key factor supporting the 13th-century conquests of the Mongol Empire.

Re: Mongolian Horse Monday
Good morning everyone and happy Monday!
Gma, thank you for sharing your research on Bama's Bible - it was fascinating to read all about it!
Today, DH goes to the office, and I have plenty to keep me occupied at home. It's cloudy today, but dry so far, so a walk this morning would be good too.

Re: Mongolian Horse Monday
I hope you enjoyed your walk, Kitty. Horses - I like horses! I rode for many years when I was young - huntseat. Jumping -- the best!
I'm up and at 'em a little earlier today because I made little progress on class prep over the weekend. I did finish the syllabi check for S3 GGT.
Yesterday felt like a good day, making progress. I got groceries - though not groceries for meals - from both Kroger and WF, I went for a 5K jog, I got 1 lol washed - put away, I finished the syllabi check for payroll, I graded HWs turned in and sent some messages, trying to get all my students in GC (this is a harder task with lower levels for some reason), and I went to CG2 from 3:30 - 6:20. I got a light meal on the table in the evening, with dh's help - just bread, rotisserie chicken, salad, and some of the Dutch cheese we procured in Holland, MI - the city where we were for J12yo's swim meet.
Today will be another good day, I hope. I'll start it off with payroll prep and then I'll be at payroll teaching my class 11-1. I'd like to get my passport renewal in the mail today and 1 more load of laundry washed - put away. Exercise of some form would be good - a long walk? A visit to the gym? Getting meals sorted for the week and a BD card in the mail (late) to DS would be good too. Today is DS' birthday. He is 32.

Re: Mongolian Horse Monday
Thanks for getting us going, kittykatt. I always wanted a horse when I was young. Now that I could actually have one (if money weren’t an issue) it seems like a lot of work.
Yay on enough sunshine to not need the light box any more.
Helia, I love that kind of light supper, easy and delicious.
Happy birthing day to you and happy birthday to your ds.
LAnn, hope your weather behaves.
I’m up, sitting on the porch drinking lemon water. It’s a beautiful day, sunny and slightly cool. Birds chatting. My mind wandering to all the things that need doing lol.
So far I’ve tried on some new shoes, fed the inside pets, put some ointment on Beau’s eye (do dogs get allergies, he acts like they itch and they were fine a couple days ago, now the rims are pinkish where he paws), read some emails and am in the rocking chair enjoying a breeze.
♥ Wake each day expecting good things to happen! ♥
