Re: Westphalian horse Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
The Westphalian or Westfalen is a warmblood horse bred in the Westphalia region of western Germany. The Westphalian is closely affiliated with the state-owned stud farm of Warendorf, which it shares with the Rhinelander. Since World War II, the Westphalian horse has been bred to the same standard as the other German warmbloods, and they are particularly famous as Olympic-level show jumpers and dressage horses. Next to the Hanoverian, the Westphalian studbook has the largest breeding population of any warmblood in Germany.
Probably the best known Westphalian was Rembrandt (15 March 1977 – 30 October 2001), a dark bay Westphalian gelding ridden for Germany by Nicole Uphoff in dressage competitions. Together, the pair won four Olympic gold medals, three gold and one silver World Equestrian Games medals, and numerous other international championships. Although known as a sensitive horse prone to spookiness, Rembrandt's elegance and expression in the ring allowed him to become one of the top horses in the sport of dressage.

Re: Westphalian horse Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off!
Bama, I think you're right and the roofer had a last . minute cancellation. I know our garage roof is considered to be a "nice little job" (only one storey to work on!) but also, it's undersrtandably.considered to be a lower priority than those people who have had water pouring through their house roof during and after our wet winter. (I know everyone thinks that *their* job is the most important, but one must be realistic!
) Another thought that occurred to me, it's very windy this morning, so much safer to be working at a lower height than on a three storey town house (even with scaffolding!)
Enjoy your pansies, KitKat! I always love their cheerful little faces!
Dogged, , over here we have winter flowering and spring flowering pansies. The winter flowering in ones are planted in autumn, and they're winter hardy, so they flower through winter (unless it gets really cold) and right into spring. The spring flowering pansies start to flower in early spring and carry on until the weather gets too hot for them. So, they should be able to tolerate frost, and even some snow, but not your more extreme winter temperatures!
Gma, thank you for the recipe. I hope the bathroom ventilation installation goes smoothly. You probably know this already, , but if it's the extractor fan type, they do accumulate a lot of dust and need cleaning periodically to stop them getting completely furred up (either with a long handled duster or the dusting attachment on the hoover) to keep them running efficiently. Most people I've talked to when I worked cleaning people's houses, had no idea this should be the case, and then wondered why their extractor fans don't work as well after a few months! When I had my cleaning business, you wouldn't believe the number I saw that were completely clogged up!. (But people your side of the Pond are probably more aware of this!
)
Im waiting for DH to finish in the bathroom so I can have my shower. The roofers could come any time after 8 am, so I need to be ready to face the day and have the kettle on (they drink prodigious cups of tea!
) by then. Clearing up the mess of plant pots and compost bags by the garage would be good, but not essential (it was far too dark last night!) I also need to let DNeighbours.D and T know - T often works from home, their garden backs onto the row of garages and I dont want her alarmed by the sight of men climbing over our garage roof! Also Dnextdoorneighbour D, if I can catch her on her way to work, and Dnextdoorneighbour C, as she is also looking for a roofer, and it would be a good chance to have a word. I'll drop a note through her door, as she's not an early riser!

Re: Westphalian horse Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Dogged, after 2 years of keeping your plant in check, you are doing a great job. I haven’t heard a thing in the media about a dominating plant on the loose up your way.
Gma, that’s a good recipe to keep on hand. Good luck with your fan installation.
Trissie, thanks for the start. Hoping for payroll to go smoothly.
Kittykatt, good point about the roofs. I’ve seen some that seem to go straight up and down and wonder why. I think I need to add clean ventilation fans to my list now. The tea and biscuits might have been too tempting for your roofer to resist also so he bumped up your work date.
The dogs had to go out so I’m up for a little bit.
Wednesday - trash day

Sign up for cruise activities, flight seats? Finally got email Saturday - read and do what’s next

Re: Westphalian horse Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, Bama - you're up early again!
I think you're right about the tea and biscuits, also L told me they've been working on chimneys this week - yesterday's was on top of a two storey house, and the place they were supposed to be going to today is right on top of a three storey house, so it's very, very cold up there, and really not at all safe in the strong wind.
Roofer L and his team arrived at 8.30am.
Since then, Ive got them settled in, given them their first lot of tea and shortbread, shown them where the outdoor electric socket is and opened up the garage and gave them directions where to find a spare tile in there (I have a stash!). I have also messaged DNeighbour S, spoken to Dnextdoorneighbour D on her way to work, knocked on DNeighbours D and T's door apologising for the early hour and put a note through Dnextdoorneighbour C 's door (she's not affected by any of this, but she needs some roof work done on her house and garage, so today would be a good opportunity for her to have a chat with them. I'm now finally having my breakfast!
Roofer L and his team arrived at 8.30am.

Re: Westphalian horse Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Thank you for another interesting horse start, trissie! I hope you're having a good day at payroll.
Kitty, I think the roofers are coming today because of the generous tea and biscuits and a client who is sensible and helpful.
Bama, don't forget to sign up for your cruise activities!! We (or I) want to hear about them.
Did you go back to sleep? Or are you up for good?
It's not early but I don't want to be up. I'm hoping my morning coffee will change that.
. It's a gray day, 34*F. No rain in the forecast for the day, though - and we're projected to get up to 60*F.
Yesterday: I was out 9 - 1ish: KS2J get together, eye appointment (check up), grocery store, gassed the car. In the afternoon, I did not get in my jog. *sigh* I had several small fires at payroll to deal with. I did some small things in the house, including s/s-ing the main bathroom. I also made progress on payroll prep: I got my slides for today started + got the assignment sheet made. For dinner, we were 6. Dd30 made chicken and root veggies. M made rice. It was very yummy! Dinner guests stayed until about 8:30ish. I made progress in my book which made me happy! Not a super productive day - but it does feel good to have my groceries for the week.
Today: I'll do payroll stuff at home until I go in at 10:45. Then, I'll teach 11-1 and do admin stuff from 1-2. At 3, I have a phone call with the director. I'd like to go for a jog this afternoon. Dinner: tacos and green salad.
Next:
- payroll: finish slides for IW D4
- payroll: print out assignment sheet, rubrics, + hand out
- payroll: post daily announcements
- some qt
Later:

- squeegee and wipe down shower

- make the bed

- make a lunch
- 10:45 gather things and get otd
- 11-1 payroll: teach IW D4
- lunch
- payroll: file away exams
- any payroll issues (teacher support) to deal with today?
- 3 - phone call with director
- dress to jog
- JOG
- bring bins back to the house
- refill the bird feeder
- try to order wedding gift for V and J again
- get/ find birthday card for ds
- write birthday card for ds
- dinner: tacos, green salad

Re: Westphalian horse Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning!
Good news: We have our first flower in the backyard: a lovely snow drop. It made me so happy this morning! One of my fav. flowers
Thanks for the start trissie - horses (dogs and flowers) make me smile:)
Best of luck with the roof Kittykatt - maybe I take pup to garden centre. She has not been there yet.
Bama reading your post - now I need a waffle
Haven't had one in years...
What's the Gma recipe? Now I need to find it.. (I'm not sidetracked, at all...)
Hope you get your jog, helia - you had a busy day yesterday.
LAnn you woke up early with all those accomplishments...
Today:
My Grammy services are not wanted/needed until late afternoon.
Must
pay phone bill
Take pup for walk - might be delayed- looks like she has upset tummy...
Garden centre for pansies
fruits/salad shopping
Cook something...
Keep garden clean up going
Laundry
There is something else on my list ... will add it later
